Character resources[1] are items used to increase the star level of characters in Bloons Adventure Time TD. There are 12 types of character resources: one for each main character. Alt characters use the same resource type as the characters they are based on.

Cosmic Essence is a resource that the player can freely convert to any character resource. The following sources reward Cosmic Essence:
- Daily Rewards
- All chest types, except Loot Bags
- Achievements
- The store
- Legendary wish orbs
- The Martian Trader
In chests, it has a 4% chance of appearing in place of a normal character resource. Due to a bug, it always replaces Bananas; Bananas effectively have 4.33% drop rate, while all other character resources have an 8.33% drop rate.
