Bloons TD 4 (also called Bloons TD 4 Mobile to distinguish it from the Flash version of Bloons TD 4) is a mobile game in the Bloons TD series developed by Digital Goldfish and published by Ninja Kiwi on December 2010. It is based on the Flash version of Bloons TD 4, but remade in a new engine with redone graphics and additional content. This game is the basis for the DSi version of Bloons TD 4. In April 2011, an HD version for iPad was released, titled Bloons TD 4 HD, and currently has the same content as the iOS version. On December 2011, an Android version was released on the Google Play store, and in 2012 the Android version was also made available through the Amazon Appstore. The Android version lacks Snow Monkey but otherwise has the same content as the iOS version.
While the iOS and HD versions are still available for almost all iOS devices, the Android version has been delisted for years because of compatibility issues, and is also delisted on Amazon.[6]
Bloons TD 4 Lite
Bloons TD 4 Lite was a free version of Bloons TD 4 for iOS devices that launched shortly after the full game and featured limited content compared with the full game. Compared with the full game, its only map was Ocean Road, lacks Apopalypse and Deflation, and lacks the Spike Factory, Dartling Gun, and Beekeeper.[7] Bloons TD 4 HD Lite has even more restrictions, as players cannot access freeplay, cannot level up past level 16 and thus, cannot use tier 4 upgrades.[8]
Exclusive Content
-
Snow Monkey
(iOS/HD Exclusive)
* Exclusive to this version and the DSi Version
Unlike the tracks above, Extreme tracks are not included with the base game, and instead must be unlocked with a purchase of $2 USD.
Introduced in Version 3.2 of the iOS version and subsequently Version 2.5 for HD and an unknown version for Android, the Beekeeper attacks just like its Bloons TD 5 counterpart, but is a tower instead of a Special Agent. The Beekeeper is unlocked by popping 2 million bloon layers, upon which the Beekeeper and all of its upgrades are available.
Differences from the Flash version
Content
- This version lacks some tracks from the Flash version, but has some exclusive tracks.
- The only Bloons TD 4 Expansion track included is Monkey Temple.
- Extreme difficulty tracks are only available in this version.
- On the iOS and HD versions, Game Center exclusive achievements are available instead of Ninja Kiwi achievements, and in the Android version, no achievements are available.
- This version lacks cloud saves.
- Premium Upgrades are unlocked by owning a certain number of Gold Medals, although they can still be purchased with real money.
- This version features the Beekeeper as an exclusive tower, retroactively added after the release of the Flash version of Bloons TD 5.
- Sandbox is not available, and thus, Rank 26 awards nothing.
Mechanics
- This version has altered attack speed for most towers compared with their Flash Counterparts, although most are relatively insignificant.
- Most notably, Ring of Fire attacks every ~0.37s instead of every ~0.74s.
- Super Monkeys and Faster Barrel Spin Dartlings attack every 0.1s instead of every ~0.057s.
- Plasma Vision and Sun God attacks every 0.05s and is attack speed capped.
- In this version, the Attack Speed cap is 20 attacks every second. Towers affected by Jungle Drums occasionally spend one less frame inbetween attacks if the attack speed does not perfectly line up with a given frame.
- Laser Vision can now pop Lead Bloons.
- For tracks in both the Flash version and this version, track length can differ from their original counterpart because of the different resolution.
- Rainbow Bloons split into two Black and White Bloons rather than two Zebra Bloons.
- Bloons have 1/8th of a second of invulnerability after a layer is popped. This does not apply when damaging a layer with more than one health without popping it.
- Freeplay games can now be saved.
Bugs and errors
- The Mortar Tower will automatically pause upon re-targeting, instantly reloading upon selecting a target. A side effect of this is that the Mortar can attack extremely fast by constantly re-targeting it immediately after the blast appears.
- Transferring a save file with a saved game between two devices on BTD4 HD may result in that save permanently locked with that saved game, where if the player starts a new game, it will always load that saved game. If a different track is selected, the original save data will be kept, including the track data, resulting in off-track bloons, with different boundaries than visually indicated.
Unused content
- The Monkey Temple tower has its own name and description, which cannot normally be seen since it can't be selected.
Temple
This should never be displayed as you cant select this tower.
In-app purchases
Note that the "Restore Purchases" button will stop Bloons TD 4 and Bloons TD 4 HD on iOS from launching if pressed, effectively preventing the game from running on said device. Despite this, on iOS 16 without any purchases, this problem did not appear. This problem does not exist on Android.
