Monkey Knowledge is a rank based system that provides permanent perks to towers. Each tower has a book containing a list of it's perks. There are 3 extra Monkey Knowledge books which are Bloon Sabotage, Monkey Tycoon, and Active Ability{{g|BMCM}} (a.k.a. Activated Ability{{g|BMCF}}).

Monkey Knowledge is an enhancement system in Bloons Monkey City that is unlocked at City Level 12. By opening Monkey Knowledge Packs, the player can unlock permanent enhancements for towers and some other gameplay elements. Each monkeys has 15 ranks that progress by earning XP. Monkey Knowledge Packs are earned by capturing tiles, participating in events, or with in-app-purchases.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Knowledge packs have a happy curve in the Flash version (and possibly mobile) that changes the odds of getting a legendary or Bounty Card. How does it work?

Monkey Knowledge Packs contain cards that usually grant XP to a certain monkey. In the Flash version, the contents are determined the moment the player selects a pack, while in the mobile version, they are determined when the pack is opened. There are three types of packs:

  • Knowledge Packs are the most common type of pack. They can contain any type of card.
  • Ancient Packs (also called Ancient Monkey Knowledge Packs) are more rare and valuable than Knowledge Packs. They cannot contain common cards and are more likely to contain higher-rarity cards and Bounty Cards.
  • Wild Card Packs (also called Wild Card Monkey Knowledge Packs) are the most rare packs. They are similar to Knowledge Packs, but exclusively contain Wild Cards and Bounty Cards. Bounty Cards in Wild Card Packs can only contain other Wild Card Packs and the "? ? ?" Bounty. In the Flash version, after the player has revealed all of the Wild Cards, the player can click on one of the buttons to open a new pack and automatically claim all Wild Cards.

Each pack contains four cards. One card is guaranteed to be of a specific rarity, while the other three are random. There is a separate chance that one of the random cards will be replaced with a Bounty Card.

Cards

Cards grant XP to a random monkey when collected. If a monkey is already at rank 15, it disenchants and grants the player City Cash instead. Cards come in four rarities: common, uncommon, rare, and legendary. Higher rarity cards grant more XP or City Cash.

Wild Cards

Wild Cards are cards that can be assigned to any monkey of the player's choosing, except those that are already at rank 15. Like regular cards, Wild Cards come in common, uncommon, rare, and legendary rarities, but unlike regular cards, they cannot disenchant into City Cash, even if the player has reached rank 15 for all monkeys.

In the Flash version, Wild Cards prompt the player to assign them immediately upon claiming them, though the player can close the prompt to save them for later. In the mobile version, Wild Cards do not prompt the player to assign them immediately.

Bounty cards

Bounty cards are rare cards that grant a random reward instead of only XP. Only one Bounty Card can appear per pack. All rewards have the same probability of appearing, except in Wild Card Packs, where all rewards except the "? ? ?" Bounty are replaced with 2× Wild Card Packs (consequently giving it a 90.9% chanceBloons Monkey City (multiplatform) or 90% chanceBloons Monkey City (Flash) of appearing).

The "? ? ?" Bounty adds 250 XP to all monkeys, though it does nothing for monkeys that are already at rank 15.

Ranks

Each monkey has 15 ranks that unlock permanent enhancements. The enhancements are unique to each monkey, and each monkey has its own XP, though they all require the same amount of XP to rank up. The current ranks and XP for each monkey can be seen in the Book of Knowledge, a menu accessed from the book icon in the Monkey Knowledge menu. There are 24 monkeys in total (21 in the Flash version): one for every placeable tower except the Banana Farmer, plus three additional monkeys that are not specific to any tower:

XP requirements

In the mobile version, each rank requires more XP than the previous rank. It takes 4,020,000 XP to unlock rank 15 for all 24 monkeys. In the Flash version, the XP requirements stop increasing after rank 5, and it only takes 630,000 XP to unlock rank 15 for all 21 monkeys.
