Monkey Subs are monkeys that operate submarines which fire "tor-pe-darts" at Bloons. They were introduced in Bloons TD 5, at first exclusive to the mobile version before being retroactively added to the Flash version in an update. They have appeared in every main Bloons TD title since.

Gameplay

The Monkey Sub is a water-based tower that fires piercing homing darts.

In Bloons TD 5, its two upgrade paths focus on support and damage. The top path focuses on either attacking through other towers' ranges or removing Camo properties from Bloons, while the bottom path makes it deal faster and vastly increased damage to MOAB-Class Bloons. Its Specialty Building in BTD5 is the Sub Construction Yard, while its main buildings in Bloons Monkey City are the Submarine Berth and the Sub Weapons Research.

In Bloons TD 6 and Battles 2, the Monkey Sub is a Military-class tower. The two BTD5 paths return, though the increased attack speed and airburst darts of the bottom path are transferred to a new path focusing on improving the airburst attack, including increased damage and pierce that it can share with other Monkey Subs. The middle path focuses on higher pierce and popping of Leads with ballistic missiles. In BTD6, it has a Paragon called the Nautic Siege Core.

General information

Appearance

The monkey inside the base Monkey Sub is depicted as having brown fur, tan skin and brown eyes, wearing a white hat with a black brim and a yellow arrow insignia signifying its rank as Private. The submarine is depicted as silver with three (two in BTD6) blue windows on each side.

In its original portrait in the mobile version of BTD5, the yellow symbol on the hat is instead circular and part of the brim's design.
