Bloons is a series of physics-based puzzle games within the Bloons franchise. In these games, the player controls a monkey (sometimes identified as a Dart Monkey) that can aim and throw darts, with the objective of each level being to pop enough Bloons with a limited number of shots. Some Bloons trigger effects when popped, such as popping other Bloons or granting extra shots with different properties.

This series comprises many of the earliest games of the franchise, including the Flash version of Bloons, the first Bloons game and the basis of Bloons Tower Defense. Although this series has not received a new entry since 2011, Bloons Pop! is considered a spiritual successor to this series[1] and has many similarities.

Gameplay

Bloons games are 2D physics puzzle games split into multiple levels. Each level has a grid with a different set of Bloons and blocks, which are often arranged into shapes and objects. The player controls a monkey placed somewhere in the level that can throw darts in any direction, which pop Bloons on contact, bounce off of frozen Bloons and Rubber Blocks, and disappear on contact with Solid Blocks or Breakable Blocks. By popping special Bloons, the player can throw additional shots that have different properties, such as boomerangs that travel in an arc.

The goal of each level is to use a limited number of shots to pop enough Bloons to reach that level's pop target. Completing the level allows the player to progress to the next level, and popping more Bloons than required improves the player's score for that level. In Bloons 2, leftover shots also add to the player's score.

In the Flash games, the player aims with the mouse and charges their shot by holding down the left mouse button, which determines the shot's velocity and distance. In the mobile games, the player drags on the screen away from the monkey to determine the angle and strength of the shot. Starting in Even More Bloons, the player can throw shots without waiting for the previous shot to expire.
