The farming for Tier 1 features obtaining minimal defense that is just enough to defeat the Bloons. The Hero saveup is done first, and then, a 0-0-0 Engineer is recommended. Upgrading it slowly and only when needed to Sprockets will generally suffice until Round 32, with a base Bomb Shooter for Rounds 28 and 30. Then, a 0-2-3 Crossbow is obtained for Camos, and Bloon Trap(s) will do the bulk of the defense starting on Round 34. If using an early-game Hero, even less defense is needed.
Preparing to defend the Tier 1 boss features spending as little into defense as possible to defeat the Bloons so all the money can be put into income generation (farming). Single digit rounds and the early 10's can be defended for very cheap using some options.

* Dart Monkey + Monkey Sub: On a single lane map with no intersections (ex. Off The Coast) they can defend reliably without micro/targeting until Round 14 with minimal leaks which can be covered by Pre-game Prep. Is recommended to have Bonus Monkey! so the Dart Monkey is free, but not needed. This is the cheapest defense when paired with Military Conscription.
* Dart Monkey + Boomerang Monkey: Can also defend until Round 14, but a few more leaks and more expensive in high Monkey Knowledge scemarops compared to the Sub.
* 3 Dart Monkeys: The most expensive of these three options but will also defend until Round 14.
* In case some of the strategies listed above are not available, any combination of two towers between Dart, Sub, Boomerang, Ninja, Druid, or Engineer are also reliable, with the later 3 can be upgraded later as the rounds progress, but they have the disadvantage of being more expensive, delaying farms.
* Quincy, Sauda and Obyn can also be used for this purpose, with the advantage that they can also deal with the 30's camo by their own. If More Cash is available and/or by letting Round 1 leak/be popped by spikes, Gwen and even Corvus become options.

After placing the initial towers, the player should focus on placing Geraldo / Benjamin (if available) and a Banana Farm as soon as possible (You can start with Dart only and Geraldo can be delayed so the Quincy Figure can be bought immediately or at most 2 rounds after placing him). After getting the Farm, it should be upgraded to 2-0-0 before placing a second farm and also upgrade it to 2-0-0. Farms should be placed near water, if possible.

After the player has two 2-0-0 farms (or earlier if the defense is already being pressured), the player can save to place their Hero if if isn't on the field already. Otherwise common follow up towers on the on the late 10's and early 20's for defense include Engineer, Ace, Buccaneer or Druid. At this point is better to put an additional monkey that will  provide more utility later rather than upgrade existing Darts, Boomerangs or Subs as they are very likely to be sold.

Here is the icon of the inactive Boss Bloon Event, which If a Boss Event is active, which changes to the featured boss when the event is active.

Boss Bloon Events spawn extremely challenging Boss Bloons that will easily overwhelm incoherent strategies, especially the Elite version. This article will be focused on the gameplay before and between Boss spawns, as the strategy while the Boss is present varies widely depending on the Boss. Farming is key to defeating Bosses, especially Elite ones, hence this article will mostly be about farming. For strategies to defeat the Bosses themselves, consult the strategy page for each Boss Bloon: Bloonarius, Lych, Vortex, Dreadbloon, Phayze and Blastapopoulos.

High amounts of Monkey Knowledge upgrades are recommended before attempting Boss events, with More Cash, Bonus Monkey!, Better Sell Deals, and Paragon of Power being especially useful.

Heroes are crucial to victory, providing valuable support or income and greatly simplifying the Boss. Recommended Heroes are listed below.

Name Portrait Reasoning & how to use
Geraldo When placing Geraldo early, Rare Quincy Action Figure can be afforded and sold in the 30s to obtain Monkeyopolis, the most efficient farm. In addition, Rejuv Potion allows for multiple ability usages against Bosses, Paragon Power Totem makes the obtaining of expensive, high-degree Paragons such as Goliath Doomship much cheaper, and most of his other items see use as well.
Benjamin Ben's money generation greatly simplifies the entire game by creating a snowballing effect that allows for quicker farming. In addition, Biohack is useful in the early-game, and his Level 5 buff to Monkey Banks is very useful.
Early game Heroes Sauda Quincy Corvus The listed heroes are not as powerful as Geraldo and Benjamin, but become useful when both of them are banned. All of them perform solid defense against Bloons before the Tier 1 Boss spawns, allowing more farms to be built.
Support Heroes Adora Admiral Brickell Ezili As with early game Heroes, these heroes see use when Geraldo and Benjamin are banned. They have support capabilities for towers that perform well against Bosses, such as Adora's for Sun Avatars, Brickell's for Destroyers, and Ezili's Sacrificial Totem, which is weaker than Adora's and Brickell's support but applies to all towers nearby.

Rounds 1-39 (pre-Tier 1)

Preparing to defend the Tier 1 boss features spending as little into defense as possible to defeat the Bloons so all the money can be put into income generation (farming). Single digit rounds and the early 10's can be defended for very cheap using some options.

 • Dart Monkey + Monkey Sub: On a single lane map with no intersections (ex. Off The Coast) they can defend reliably without micro/targeting until Round 14 with minimal leaks which can be covered by Pre-game Prep Pre-game Prep. Is recommended to have Bonus Monkey! Bonus Monkey! so the Dart Monkey is free, but not needed. This is the cheapest defense when paired with Military Conscription Military Conscription.
 • Dart Monkey + Boomerang Monkey: Can also defend until Round 14, but a few more leaks and more expensive in high Monkey Knowledge scemarops compared to the Sub.
 • 3 Dart Monkeys: The most expensive of these three options but will also defend until Round 14.
 • In case some of the strategies listed above are not available, any combination of two towers between Dart, Sub, Boomerang, Ninja, Druid, or Engineer are also reliable, with the later 3 can be upgraded later as the rounds progress, but they have the disadvantage of being more expensive, delaying farms.
 • Quincy, Sauda and Obyn can also be used for this purpose, with the advantage that they can also deal with the 30's camo by their own. If More Cash More Cash is available and/or by letting Round 1 leak/be popped by spikes, Gwen and even Corvus become options.

Procedure for Monkeyopolis without IMF Loan: Sell all income-making towers present, obtain 3 0-0-2 Monkey Commerces, get a 0-0-3 Monkey Town discounted by all 3, sell one Monkey Commerce, obtain a 0-0-0 Banana Farm discounted as many times as possible, sell the Monkey Commerces, and then obtain Monkeyopolis (absorbing the 0-0-0 Farm).

Procedure for Monkeyopolis with IMF Loan: Sell all income-making towers except IMF Loan, collect the Bank cash of IMF Loan, obtain 1 0-0-2 Monkey Commerce, obtain Monkey Town (both near the IMF Loan), sell Monkey Commerce, use IMF Loan's ability, and upgrade the Monkey Town to Monkeyopolis (absorbing the IMF Loan).

The recommended towers for the farming progression are shown below.
