Specialty Buildings are a mechanic that provides discounts for a specific tower and its upgrades, at the cost of increasing the cost and upgrade costs of another tower (usually one with a similar theme or function). Every tower except the Banana Farm and Monkey Village has a corresponding Specialty Building, and they can be upgraded to apply additional perks that are unique to each tower, such as the Dart Training Facility, which gives the player free Dart Monkeys every 10 rounds, and the Mage Spire, which gives the Monkey Apprentice an additional attack. Bloons TD 5 Deluxe is a paid "premium" port of the Bloons TD 5 for Windows and macOS that adds the Monkey Engineer and Bloonchipper, new tracks, new Special Agents, and new Special Missions, allows Premium Upgrades to be purchased with Monkey Money instead of NK Coins, and removes all online features, including Co-op, online leaderboards, and Daily Challenges (replaced with Random Challenges). Because the Flash version continued to receive updates for many years after Deluxe was discontinued in 2014, the Flash version received a good deal of content and changes that were not incorporated into Deluxe, including the Monkey Sub, daily quests, a number of tracks, and balance changes.

The Bloons TD 5 is a reissue of the Flash original for iOS, iPadOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and later ported to Windows and macOS to replace Deluxe. It is a from-the-ground-up remake in a new engine with completely redone graphics. In addition to introducing several new features, it incorporates some elements from Deluxe, such as the Monkey Engineer and Bloonchipper. Because it runs in a different engine, there are several differences in game mechanics, such as how pierce interacts with exploding projectiles. The mobile version has almost all of the same content as the Flash version, but there are a few tracks exclusive to the Flash version.

Revision as of 04:40, 7 July 2024

Bloons TD 5 (also known as Bloons Tower Defense 5, Bloons TD5, and BTD5) is a title used to refer to multiple games: the Flash version of Bloons TD 5, a 2011 browser game developed by Ninja Kiwi; Bloons TD 5 Deluxe, a 2012 enhanced port of the Flash version for PC with added features; the mobile version of Bloons TD 5, a 2013 mobile and PC game developed by Ninja Kiwi Europe; and the console version of Bloons TD 5, a 2017 port of the mobile version for Xbox One, Playstation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It is the successor to Bloons TD 4, introducing an expanded and revised upgrade system, Activated Abilities, Special Agents, Specialty Buildings, and co-operative multiplayer. Bloons TD 5 served as the basis for Bloons TD Battles and Bloons Monkey City, which share mostly the same towers, upgrades, Bloons, and core game mechanics, and are collectively known as the Bloons TD 5 generation.

Special Agents
| This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Needs a list of agents |
Special Agents are items that are purchased with Monkey Money instead of in-game cash. Most Special Agents are towers, but unlike most other towers, they include non-monkey animals such as turtles and squirrels. They have a wide range of functions, including providing offensive coverage in the early-game and changing the terrain to allow water towers to be placed on land and vice versa. Special Agents can be permanently upgraded into Special Agent Pros by using them a certain number of times.
Specialty Buildings
| This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it. The editor who added this notice elaborates: Needs a list of specialty buildings |
Specialty Buildings are purchased and upgraded with Monkey Money, and only one Specialty Building can be enabled at a time.
Differences between versions
Flash version and Deluxe
Bloons TD 5 Deluxe is a paid "premium" port of the Flash version for Windows and macOS that adds the Monkey Engineer and Bloonchipper, new tracks, new Special Agents, and new Special Missions, allows Premium Upgrades to be purchased with Monkey Money instead of NK Coins, and removes all online features, including Co-op, online leaderboards, and Daily Challenges (replaced with Random Challenges). Because the Flash version continued to receive updates for many years after Deluxe was discontinued in 2014, the Flash version received a good deal of content and changes that were not incorporated into Deluxe, including the Monkey Sub, daily quests, a number of tracks, and balance changes.
Flash version and mobile version
The mobile version of Bloons TD 5 is a reissue of the Flash original for iOS, iPadOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and later ported to Windows and macOS to replace Deluxe.
