Blooming Bloon is a Basic Bloon card in Bloons Card Storm, introduced in version 5.0. If it pops, it summons one Swarm Yellow Bloon. If it leaks to the opponent's Hero, it summons up to three Swarm Yellow Bloons, with a minimum of one depending on remaining board space. Leaking a Blooming Bloon will not decrease delay of its summoned Bloons.

The card artwork depicts a Blooming Bloon near a crowd of Yellow Bloons and Orange Bloons, the two latter creating flower shapes with five petals each. In the background are more Blooming Bloons.

Tips

  • For its price of 4 Gold, Blooming Bloon is powerful. Not popping it is very punishing, and it requires immediate attention if sent. Countering it early on can be difficult if you draw poorly, especially if the opponent is using Zee Jay to buff its health further, or Amelia to protect it.
  • The easiest way to counter it is to pop it before it leaks, resulting in only one Swarm Yellow to deal with instead of three. Countering the offspring is more difficult, however, especially versus aggro and Gold-sabotaging cards such as Economy Drain.
  • Targeting Blooming Bloon is a priority, as it is one of Aggro’s strongest Bloons. Aggro decks frequently run it, so preparing for it pre-emptively is a must when fighting Aggro.
  • Running burst removal such as Robo Monkey, Bloon Redirect, and Overload is effective at taking it out before it becomes a threat. Zee Jay’s passive can buff it over Overload’s health range if you are playing on Dark Castle.
  • Quincy has multiple options versus an early Blooming Bloon. Storm Of Arrows and Rapid Shot will pop the Blooming Bloon layer if there's a few Bloons. Alternatively, assuming no health buffs, use Bloontonium Cache and enough Bloon cards to get 9 Bloontonium (or just the former if the map is BRefinery), then do three Arrow Shots.
  • Outside of Dark Castle and if not buffed by any Hero's passive (specifically Zee Jay, Amelia, or Ezili), Bomb Shooter, Crossbow Monkey, and Barrel Of Monkeys (if 4 are played) can pop Blooming Bloons in a single turn.
  • Sniper Monkey can pop Blooming Bloon if that Bloon is not buffed by Zee Jay or Amelia, with the advantage of one-shotting it on Dark Castle and with Ezili at the same time. Night Vision Sniper can pop Blooming Bloon outside of either Zee Jay plus Dark Castle or Amelia (even without Dark Castle). A minor buff (e.g. Zee Jay's Rad Enhancements) is required for either Sniper against a buffed Blooming Bloon.
  • Long Range Rang followed by enough Bloon damage from a Monkey or Power can also pop the Blooming before it leaks. Be sure to have at least 3 Gold and afford additional Monkeys. In the worst case scenario, a Long Range Rang would damage the Blooming Bloon to 40 Health without further buffs from cards.
  • Clever Blue Bloon (after placing a Monkey) does a large burst of damage to the Bloon at the front for cheap.
  • Gwendolin has several ways to deal with Blooming Bloon. If the Blooming Bloon is at the front, setting it On Fire with Fireball or It's All On Fire Now followed by Gwen's Choice is a very cheap method and works even against Amelia-buffed Blooming.
  • Without Cash Drop, Player 2 can begin a Blooming Bloon on Round 2, or Round 1 on High Finance, or Round 3 or 2 respectively for Player 1.
    • By Round 3, Player 1 has a budget of 6 Gold, enough for a variety of counters, or 5 Gold on Round 2 at High Finance. On the other hand, on the same rounds, Player 2 would have 7 Gold, or 6 Gold at High Finance.
  • Conveniently, Blooming Bloon (assuming no discounts) produces enough Bloontonium to activate Amelia's Bloon Shield passive.
  • Note that the spawned Swarm Yellows effectively have 2 delay relative to the opponent. So, as the opponent, saving up to Thunder Druid or Frag Bomb Shooter can be done if the Blooming Bloon was sent later than Round 2.
  • Some players may add Must Pop Bloons to deter the player from targeting Blooming Bloon. Mountain Obyn's Sentinel Bloon (from either playing on Bloontonium Refinery or using Bloontonium Cache) is an easy choice early on.
    • If an enemy Mountain Obyn uses Bloontonium Cache to send Sentinel first, it can take damage first from effects that target the first Bloons (e.g. Clever Blue Bloon).
  • If running Zee Jay, a leaked Blooming Bloon's first Swarm Yellow will count for his Passive Enhancements, thus guaranteeing 1 Rad Token for that round.

Update history

  • Nerf Gold cost increased ― 3 → 4
  • Buff Bloontonium gain increased ― 3 → 4
  • Nerf Health reduced ― 90 → 80
  • Nerf Effects now spawn Swarm Yellow Bloons instead of Yellow Bloons

Development

During the Version 5.2 playtest, Ninja Kiwi proposed a nerf to Blooming Bloon on Version 5.2 by lowering the Health from Blooming Bloon from 90 to 80 and Gold cost from 3 to 4, which was added to the update unchanged.

During the Version 6.2 playtest, a community tester proposed for Blooming Bloon to spawn Swarm Yellows instead of normal Yellows and decrease its Health from 80 to 75 (likely to limit a case with Blooming + Zee Jay's Passive + Dark Castle).[1] However, only the Swarm Yellow change was added by Ninja Kiwi in the update,[1] in turn reducing Health of summoned Bloons by 20 each (total of 60 from a leaked Blooming). After playtesting, Blooming Bloon was considered more of a "fair and balanced Bloon" that is still very strong in aggro but not enough to be a total crutch for aggro.[1] It should be noted that casual players considered Blooming Bloon their least favorite card overall.[1]
