Introduced Version 4.2

Bonnie is a Hero in Bloons TD Battles 2, introduced in version 4.2. She costs  5,000 to unlock.

Bonnie's main attack throws a stick of dynamite onto the track every 3 seconds, similar to a Spike Factory, and can throw them over line of sight blockers. Each dynamite stick explodes after 10 seconds or on contact with a Bloon, dealing 1 damage to up to 20 Bloons in an area. The explosions can damage Camo Bloons, but not Black Bloons. As she levels up, the damage, pierce, blast radius, and lifetime of her dynamite sticks increase, she can throw them more often and can damage Black Bloons, and she unlocks methods of generating cash and more ways to attack.

Starting at level 2, she spawns a minecart on the player's natural Bloon path every 6 seconds, which moves and acts like a Bloon. Towers can attack and destroy the carts to drop Bloonstones that can be collected to earn cash. The player can spend cash to upgrade the carts, making them drop more valuable collectables at the cost of increasing their health, or the player can sell their upgrades, resetting the carts to their base tier in return for 70% of the total cash spent on them. Bonnie unlocks higher tier cart upgrades as she levels up.

She has two Activated Abilities:

  • Mass Detonation (level 3) — Throws 10 dynamite sticks within her range and throws a special dynamite stick at each minecart currently on the map. The special dynamite creates an explosion that destroys the minecart, damages nearby Bloons, and launches 8 shrapnel projectiles around it, and can damage all Bloon types. At higher levels, the explosions and shrapnel deal more damage and the explosions cover a larger area.
  • B.E.A.S.T. (level 10) — Spawns a truck on the player's natural Bloon path that stuns Bloons it rolls over and can be attacked to spawn more Bloonstones. It has the properties of a MOAB-Class Bloon and moves as fast as a Zebra Bloon.

Mechanics

Dynamite

Bonnie's basic attack throws a stick of dynamite onto a random point on the track within her range every 3 seconds. She can attack even if there are no Bloons within her range, and can throw dynamite over line of sight blockers, but she can't attack if there is no point on the track within her range. Each stick of dynamite explodes on contact with the first Bloon it hits, or after 10 seconds, generating an explosion that deals 1 explosion-type damage to up to 20 Bloons in its radius of 20 units.

Although the dynamite can explode on contact with Camo Bloons and their explosions can damage Camo Bloons, Bonnie is not considered to have Camo detection, so she does not allow Advanced Intel to target Camo Bloons in her range.

Levels
Level Effect
4 Cooldown reduces from 3 seconds to 2 seconds, effectively increasing attack speed by 50%. Dynamite lifespan increases from 10 seconds to 20 seconds.
6 Damage increases to 2.
7 Pierce increases to 30. Blast radius increases to 28 units. Can now damage all Bloon types.
8 Lifespan increases to 40 seconds.
9 Damage increases to 4.
12 Now deals quadruple damage to MOAB-Class Bloons. This multiplier is the same for all future levels and does not multiply damage buffs.
13 Lifespan increases to 80 seconds.
15 Damage increases to 10.
18 Pierce increases to 100. Blast radius increases to 38 units.
19 Damage increases to 60.

Minecarts

Starting at level 2, Bonnie spawns a minecart on the player's natural Bloon path every 6 seconds (unaffected by attack speed buffs) that rolls down the track. The minecarts function similarly to Bloons: they have a health stat, move at the same speed as a Red Bloon, and can be targeted and attacked by towers, though they can't be inflicted with effects, aren't affected by Bloon Boosts or speed ramping in later rounds, and don't remove lives or trigger abilities like Elite Defender if they leak. Towers targeting Strong will prioritize all Bloons over minecarts. If a cart is destroyed, it drops a Bloonstone that can be collected to earn cash, which expires after 40 seconds.

The player can spend cash to upgrade the minecarts, making their collectables worth more but increasing their health. At any time, the player can sell all their cart upgrades, resetting them back to their base tier and returning 70% of the total cash spent on those upgrades (unaffected by Favored Trades). Bonnie unlocks further cart upgrades in sets of 5 at levels 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, and 20. Every time the player upgrades or sells her minecarts, Bonnie plays a voice line that is audible to both players.

Abilities

Mass Detonation

Mass Detonation icon

Mass Detonation is unlocked at level 3. It causes Bonnie to instantly throw 10 of her regular dynamite sticks at random points on the track within her range (with the same properties as her dynamite at her current level) and throw a special stick of dynamite at each minecart currently on the player's side of the map. The special dynamite sticks can pass through line of sight blockers to hit their targets. On contact, each special dynamite does the following:

  • It instantly destroys the target minecart.
  • It generates an explosion that deals 2 damage to up to 40 Bloons within its radius. It can pop all Bloon types, including Camo Bloons.
  • It emits eight shard projectiles that fly out in a circle, each of which deals 6 damage with 1 pierce. They can pop all Bloon types, but cannot hit Camo Bloons, even if Bonnie is given a Camo detection buff.

This ability has a 60-second cooldown and starts with a 20-second cooldown.

Levels
Level Effect
6 Explosion damage increases to 3. Shard damage increases to 8.
9 Explosion damage increases to 7. Shard damage increases to 18.
12 Explosions and shard now deal quadruple damage to MOAB-Class Bloons. This multiplier is the same for all future levels.
13 Cooldown reduces to 50 seconds.
15 Explosion damage increases to 15. Shard damage increases to 38.
18 Explosion pierce increases to 200. Blast radius increases to 50 units. Shard pierce increases to 3.
19 Explosion damage increases to 100. Shard damage increases to 250.

B.E.A.S.T.

B.E.A.S.T.

B.E.A.S.T. is unlocked at level 10. It spawns the Bloonstone Excavation And Supply Truck on the player's natural Bloon path, which moves down the path and stuns Bloons it rolls over. It behaves similarly to a minecart, except it has more health, moves at the same speed as a Zebra Bloon (before speed ramping), has the properties of a MOAB-Class Bloon and is affected by MOAB damage bonuses from everything except MOAB SHREDR and above, and is affected by Bloon Boosts. Towers targeting Strong will prioritize it over regular Bloons, but not other MOAB-Class Bloons. It stuns all non-BAD Bloons it runs into for a few seconds. It spawns a collectable Bloonstone each time it takes a certain amount of damage. It has a 70-second cooldown and no initial cooldown.

At levels 16 and 20, the B.E.A.S.T.'s health, Bloonstone value, and stun duration increase, but it also takes more damage to spawn a Bloonstone. At all levels, it can drop up to 100 Bloonstones.

Levels

Level Description
1 Bonnie throws out stacks of dynamite which explode after a few seconds or when a bloon touches them.
2 Harmless minecarts appear on the natural bloon track which can be "popped" for cash. Upgrade them to make them more valuable, to a maximum of $300 per cart.
3 Mass Detonation - Bonnie throws dynamite at every minecart at once, destroying them and any bloons around them.
4 Longer fuses allows dynamite to sit on the track for longer before exploding. Bonnie throws them more frequently.
5 Minecarts can now be upgraded to $800 per cart.
6 Higher power explosives allow all dynamite explosions to deal more damage.
7 Dynamite explosions have increased pierce and blast radius and can damage any bloon type.
8 Dynamite stacks have longer fuses and minecarts can be upgraded to $1,600 per cart.
9 Highly potent explosives allow all dynamite explosions to deal even more damage.
10 B.E.A.S.T. - Call forth the Bloonstone Excavation And Supply Truck which stuns bloons by running them over. Continually drops bloonstones as it takes damage from monkey attacks.
11 Minecarts can now be upgraded to $3,000 per cart.
12 Special formula dynamite deals 4x damage to MOAB class bloons.
13 Mass Detonation cooldown is reduced and dynamite fuse time is increased.
14 Minecarts can now be upgraded to $5,000 per cart.
15 Ultra powerful explosives allow all dynamite explosions to deal even more damage.
16 The B.E.A.S.T. carries more valuable bloonstones and stuns bloons for longer.
17 Minecarts can now be upgraded to $8,000 per cart.
18 Increased payload gives all of Bonnie's dynamite attacks higher pierce and a larger blast radius.
19 Supercharged explosives allow all dynamite explosions to deal maximum damage.
20 The B.E.A.S.T. carries even more valuable bloonstones and stuns bloons for even longer. Minecarts can be upgraded to their maximum value of $12,000 per cart.

Version 4.2.1 (OTA update 2)

Bonnie is extremely popular and appears in a significant portion of matchups across all arenas. This isn't a concern for us because, like Etienne, she enables a variety of strategies rather than just one or two so her popularity shouldn't make things stale. Despite her popularity, her win rate is well below average in the Hall of Masters so we don't believe she needs much in the way of nerfs. That said, one common complaint is that Bonnie gives too much early game income for too little investment so we are reducing the value of her base Minecarts and moving that value into the upgrades, making her less efficient right out of the gate but keeping her the same strength once she's a few upgrades in. We have also seen that it's much easier to get full value out of the BEAST than we anticipated, essentially turning her ability into a "free money button" at higher levels. We've kept the amount of cash contained in the BEAST the same but increased the amount of damage required to extract it all.
