Monkey Aces are monkeys that use special dart-firing biplanes to pop Bloons down below via aiming down.[1] Introduced in Bloons TD 4, the Monkey Ace has become a semi-consistent staple in the Bloons franchise, appearing in every mainline Bloons TD game since 4, some spinoffs, and Bloons 2.
Gameplay
[edit | edit source]The Monkey Ace is a tower that flies in a fixed pattern above the map and fires a ring of heavy darts around itself in short intervals, even without the presence of nearby Bloons. Like the Heli Pilot, starting from BTD5, Monkey Aces are summoned from small runways that can be clicked/tapped to access its upgrades and change its targeting options (which are changed to flight patterns for this tower). The flight patterns available usually consist of two figure-8s, one vertical, one horizontal, and a circular pattern.
In Bloons TD 4, its ultimate upgrade is Operation: Dart Storm, which vastly increases the quantity of the tower's darts. Notably, in this game the player must try and click the Ace itself to access its upgrades and flight patterns, as there is no runway. This also means the tower has no footprint at all.
In the Bloons TD 5 generation of games, the Monkey Ace's two paths ultimately both focus on damage; the top path centers on faster, homing damage, while the bottom path retains Operation: Dart Storm and culminates in an Activated Ability that deals extreme damage to all Bloons on the map. Its Specialty Building in BTD5 is the Ace Private Hangar, while its main buildings in Bloons Monkey City are the Ace Airport and Aeronautics Laboratory.
In Bloons TD 6 and Battles 2, the Monkey Ace is classified as a Military tower. Compared to previous TD games, its paths are quite heavily reshuffled: the top path mainly focuses on faster, more plentiful darts, the middle path focuses on bombing groups of Bloons, and the bottom path retains most of the homing damage path from 5.

In Bloons Supermonkey 2, the Dart Epic arm weapon summons a Dart Ace that rapidly shoots darts straight ahead for a short time. It shoots 6 darts at a time in the mobile version, or 8 darts at a time in the Flash version.
In Bloons 2, a Monkey Ace is summoned when popping an Ace Bloon. When popped, the Ace flies into a line of Bloons, using its blades to attack. The player can aim the Ace, if needed.
The Monkey Ace and Super Monkey are the only non-Dart Monkey towers from the Bloons TD franchise to appear in a mainline Bloons game.
In Bloons Pop!, the Monkey Ace appears as a Powerup, similarly to Bloons 2. When its Powerup Bloon is popped, several Monkey Aces fly across the screen both vertically and horizontally to bomb any Bloons in their paths, except for Black and Zebra Bloons.
Other appearances
[edit | edit source]
Although not technically represented directly in Bloons Adventure Time TD, Squadron allies and certain upgrades for Hunter Marceline use the same mechanics such as circular flight paths and continuous automatic firing.
In Bloons Card Storm, a Monkey Ace can be seen in the card art for Bombs Away. A Monkey Ace with blue fur can also be seen in the Steam banner for the game.
General information
[edit | edit source]Appearance
[edit | edit source]The base form of a Monkey Ace is usually depicted as a monkey with brown fur, tan skin and brown eyes wearing a brown cap, golden goggles with brown straps, a red scarf and what can be assumed to be a pilot jacket. The plane itself is a lime green biplane with a blue propeller and red circles with blue outlines on its wings.
