Ice Monkeys (known as Ice Towers or, rarely, Ice Balls prior to Bloons TD 6) are monkeys that freeze Bloons in an area around them. Inspired by the Ice Bloon from the Bloons series, they were introduced in the original Bloons Tower Defense, and have been included in all mainline Bloons TD games and some spinoffs since.

Ice Monkey freezes bloons within its short range at a slow rate. Frozen bloons do not move further along the track until they are either popped or the duration of the freeze ends. Frozen bloons cannot be popped by sharp towers in a similar way to lead bloons. White bloons are a type of bloon throughout all of the games that are immune to this freeze effect until popped.

In both Bloons Tower Defense 1 or Bloons Tower Defense 2, the Ice Tower has two upgrades that improve its low range and increase the duration of its freezing. In BTD 1, the tower costs 850 money, while in later titles it costs significantly less. With Bloons Tower Defense 3, the introduction of permafrost, an upgrade that slows frozen bloons until they are popped and snap freeze, which allows the tower to deal damage. Ceramic bloons are also immune to freezing and were introduced in BTD 3, although this immunity to freezing would later be removed.

Bloons TD 4 and its mobile version combined several upgrades from previous games while adding a new upgrade that slows nearby bloons passively. BTD 4 also adds zebra bloons that are immune to freeze and contain more white bloons.

In Bloons TD 5, Bloons TD 5 Deluxe, mobile version, Bloons TD Battles, mobile version, and Bloons Monkey City, the Ice Monkey has 2 upgrade paths. The first path focuses on freezing and clumping large amounts of bloons within its area with Arctic Wind and Viral Frost. The second path focuses as a higher damage path with Ice Shards and grants the Absolute Zero Ability.

In Bloons TD 6 and Bloons TD Battles 2, the Ice Monkey is classified as a Primary tower. In both BTD6 and BTDB2 it was available from launch. The top path uses ice shards to pop bloons, remove properties, and cause them to take more damage. The middle path has a slowing aura and a stronger ability similar to its BTD5 counterpart. The bottom path uses a cannon to freeze bloons and MOABs over a longer range.

In Bloons Adventure Time TD, the Ice Monkey is a Common Ally, functioning similarly to its base tower counterpart in BTD6.

In the mobile version of Bloons Supermonkey 2, a playable Ice Monkey unlocks after completing Level 25. He can equip the same weapons as Super Monkey, with the exception of Dart weapons, replaced with Ice weapons. Ice core weapons can freeze Bloons in an area around the Ice Monkey, while Ice arm weapons can pop frozen Bloons. Ice weapons don't affect White or Zebra Bloons.

The Ice Monkey is a Monkey that is unlocked at level 9. It freezes Bloons in a radius every time it bounces off Bloons or bouncy surfaces. Its Mega Monkey variant, Mega Ice Monkey, does more damage and spreads its freeze onto neighboring Bloons.

Other appearances

An Ice Monkey appears in the card art of the Black Bloon in Bloons Card Storm.
