Version 4.0 is the third major update to Bloons Card Storm. It introduced Striker Jones, 48 new regular cards, the Boss Battle event with Dreadbloon, Striker's Adventure,[2] new cosmetic items, Ranked season 4,[3] card packs, daily login rewards, an updated Quest tracking UI, improved AI, and balance changes.[4]

Card updates

With the addition of Splash Damage, Temporary Ammo and Immobile mechanics, we’ve updated older cards that were intended to work in that way all along.
  • Neutral Triple Shot: Now deals splash damage instead of a fixed 20 damage on side Bloons
    • Note: Side darts now are affected by changes to Attack Power (including losses)
  • Description changed ― "On Attack: Deal 20 Damage to Bloons adjacent to target" → "On Attack: Deal Splash Damage"
  • Nerf On Play effect: Additional Ammo is now considered Temporary Ammo and disappears at the end of the turn the Ammo is gained[5]
  • Description changed ― "On Play: Gain 2 Ammo" → "On Play: Gain 2 Temporary Ammo"
  • Neutral Immobile property added
  • Neutral Delay increased ― 4 → ∞
  • Neutral No longer increases its own delay at the start of each turn
  • Description changed ― "On Turn Start: Increase delay by 1. Give another random friendly Bloon +50 Health" → "On Turn Start: Give another random friendly Bloon +50 Health"
  • Neutral Immobile property added
  • Neutral Delay increased ― 7 → ∞
  • Neutral No longer increases its own delay at the start of each turn
  • Description changed ― "On Turn Start: Increase delay by 1. Other friendly Bloons gain 20 Health" → "On Turn Start: Other friendly Bloons gain 20 Health"
  • Description changed ― "On Attack: Deal 15 Damage to the next Bloon" → "On Attack: Deal 15 Damage to the next adjacent Bloon" (undocumented)
  • Neutral If reloaded at the start of a round, the generated Yellow Bloon now occurs before drawing from the deck. (undocumented)
  • Description changed ― On Leaked: Reduce cost of a random Bloon in your hand by 1 → On Leak: Reduce cost of a random Bloon in your hand by 1 (undocumented)
  • Nerf No longer triggers HP gain from the Storm's Bloons or Nested Bloons (undocumented)
  • Nerf Can no longer be played if the hand is full (undocumented) (bug)
    • Note: Not allowing a two-charge Archer's Instinct to be played when full is intended, one-charge disallowance is not

Balance changes

While we wait to see how 4.0 meta shapes up, we’ve just made a few tweaks to two cards that continue to lag behind while also bringing the power of Mine Supervisor back slightly.
  • Although the patch notes state Crossbow Monkey getting attack power increased from 35 to 40, Crossbow Monkey already has 40 attack power.
  • Buff Attack Power increased ― 75 → 80
  • Nerf Attack Power decreased ― 45 → 40

  • Applying Badlands effect on opponent occurs before drawing card from start of turn, instead of after.
  • Bonus AP from Game Night now applies after placement of a Monkey, not already added before placement.

Graphics, animations, and sound effects

  • Jungle's Bounty Druid now animates while granting lives from Gold gains
  • Reworked animation for Thunder Druid. Now slowly looks at the sky with its wand and strikes lightning from above, instead of aiming at bloons and forking lightning across.
  • Adjusted card drawing animations
  • Changed 3D model of Hero Protection aura
  • Monkey Investigator's shooting sound effect is now a brief high-pitched "pew" sound, similar to Brickell's pistol, instead of a "throw" sound (e.g. Dart Monkey).
  • Elite Defender's shooting sound effect is now a high-pitched rifle shot sound, instead of a "throw" sound (e.g. Dart Monkey).
  • Added explosion sounds for Mortar Monkey and The Big One when hitting Bloons.
  • Updated Doomed icon
Before After

User interface

  • Hero victory/loss voicelines now play a few seconds after winning/losing animation instead of immediately after.
  • Strengthenator and Aura of Strength Bloon now only spawn at the back of the queue. "Increased delay" sound effect still plays at start of turn.
  • AI Zee Jay algorithm changed: Instead of always targeting friendly Monkeys that have run out of Ammo, his Rad Enhancements always targets Monkeys with Ammo. Additionally, he prioritises Rad Bloon once he's at full Bloontonium.
  • Updated main menu
    • Main menu background modified to a new artwork. Old background reused in Daily Goals.
    • Updated main menu buttons and UI to individually show Daily Goals, and add events.
    • Aďded a Daily Challenge button directly on the lefthand side.
    • New buttons on the lefthand side of the screen.
  • Updated the Profile menu
  • Updated the Collection menu
    • Added "Set" filter
    • Adjusted UI of each sub-menu
    • Adjusted graphics for not yet unlocked cards
  • Updated the Store menu to include updated Daily Items UI
  • Updated the Play menu to a horizontal scrolling UI
  • Adjusted UI for pre-battle and card mulligan menus.
  • Some cards now have bold text on keyword descriptions.
  • Quest icons updated, now with different icons for types of quests.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed a bug where hero XP could sometimes show as negative if you won a daily challenge with a hero you don’t own
  • Fixed an issue with ZJ’s passive ability text being incorrect
  • The AI will now play Buddy Bloon again
  • Fixed an issue where Dart Monkey’s eyes would occasionally glitch out
  • Resolved an issue where disconnecting from a game in the lobby could cause the following game to show a flattened version of the arena on the Victory screen
  • Storm clouds will now show correctly on iPhone 6S
  • Fixed a bug where some players might not receive season rewards at the end of a Ranked season if they had not collected some of their season rewards
  • Neutral Reinflated Bloons that are popped are added to the graveyard and can themselves be reinflated (bug fix)
