The card artwork depicts an Elite Defender standing upright with right fist on their hips but having tired eyes while standing on a rock in a dusty desert. The monkey stands next to a flag of Banana Republic. In-game, their gun is gray instead of white.
Elite Defender is usually better when kept on full Ammo to maximize its damage against leaking high-HP bloons. However, its basic shots could be helpful to do minor damage; it has 4 ammo, equivalent to Bionic Boomerang with its On Play but with 20 less ATK and 1 more delay.
Compared to Tack Sprayer, Elite Defender has 1 extra ammo, has the same ATK when Defender is active but less Defender bonus, and costs 3 Gold more.
Like Tack Sprayer, Elite Defender on Defender can two-shot a Pink, minus health modifiers such as Dark Castle or an enemy Ezili.
It is best not to entirely rely on Elite Defender to defend against the Storm's Pink Bloons, because there is a chance that it will be stunned on those rounds, or the opponent can use sabotage cards such as Whoops or Ceasefire.
A beta version of Elite Defender with its placeholder art is found in the files of the Full Playable Test.
The community playtesters for Version 5.2 proposed a rework to both Tack Sprayer and Elite Defender in an effort to limit Tack Sprayer's Zee Jay synergy but improve overall Defender bonuses of both Monkeys. Tack Sprayer had its ammo reduced (4 → 3) but ATK increased (25 → 30) along with increased Defender bonus (+15 → +20). Elite Defender's ammo was increased (3 → 4) but ATK decreased (50 → 35). After these reworks, both Monkeys have the same Defender damage.
