— Super Monkey in Bloons Pop!

Super Monkeys (also written as Supermonkey) are superhero monkeys characterized by their ability to throw darts extremely fast, especially in comparison to Dart Monkeys, and possession of magical powers, such as shooting lasers and plasma beams from their eyes. They first appeared in the game Bloons Tower Defense and have since become one of the most frequently recurring monkey types in the Bloons franchise, even becoming the main character of the eponymous Bloons Supermonkey series. While mainly a parody of Superman, many of their abilities are references to other comic book superheroes.

While most Bloons games depict multiple Super Monkeys, Super Monkey is sometimes treated as an individual, particularly in the Bloons Supermonkey series and Bloons Adventure Time TD (though other Super Monkeys also exist in the latter example). When treated as an individual, Super Monkey is referred to as male and often portrayed as an arrogant and egocentric character.

Gameplay

[edit | edit source]

The Super Monkey is a tower that attacks by rapidly throwing darts. In all games, it has above-average range and high attack speed, but is expensive to place and upgrade.

In his original appearance in BTD 1, the Super Monkey only has a single upgrade that increases his range significantly.

In Bloons Tower Defense 2, he gains the laser vision upgrade that increases pierce and allows him to pop frozen bloons.

In Bloons Tower Defense 3, he gains another range upgrade and plasma vision which gives further pierce and allows him to pop lead bloons.

In Bloons TD 4, Laser vision pops all types of bloons and gains the Sun God upgrade.

In Bloons TD 5, he has two paths. The top path ends with the Temple of The Monkey God which deals extreme amounts of damage. The bottom path focuses on range and area cover with the Robo Monkey upgrade having 2 seperate targeting modes and the Technological Terror can deal massive damage to nearby bloons.

In Bloons TD 6, he has three paths and is classified as a magic tower, causing purple bloons to be immune to certain upgrades. The top path focuses on large amounts of damage and ends with the True Sun God. The middle path focuses on increased coverage and can split targets. The bottom path focuses on versatility, allowing him to reposition, destroy all bloon types, increased damage to all bloon types, and increased pierce.

Super Monkey is the main playable character of Bloons Super Monkey and Bloons Supermonkey 2. In Bloons Super Monkey, he has a default attack that rapidly shoots darts forwards, and his upgrades allow him to enhance his darts or add/replace weapons (such as boomerangs, laser whips, and missiles). In Bloons Supermonkey 2, he has can switch between multiple types of weapons, and in the mobile version, he can swap places with other characters—Ice Monkey, Storm Monkey, and Dr. Monkey—who can equip different weapons.

When using a Level Skip in Bloons 2, the player monkey temporarily transforms into a Super Monkey that can fire a constant stream of laser beams in any direction, which can destroy any Bloon or Block type, including Rubber Blocks and Solid Blocks. In Bloons Blast, there was an item called the Barrel of Super Monkeys with a similar function, but for a limited duration.[1]

The Super Monkey is a Monkey unlocked at level 3. When used as a shot, it throws 15 darts that bounce around. The player can merge two Super Monkey shots into a Mega Super Monkey, which throws six darts that damage Bloons near them with energy auras.

"Super" is a Monkey card type that represents Super Monkeys in Bloons Card Storm. All Super cards are Magic-class, and they tend to be very expensive and deal a lot of damage.
