Wizard Monkey
Artwork in Bloons Card Storm

The Wizard Monkey is a monkey introduced in Bloons TD 4 as the Monkey Apprentice. It is a monkey with a cloak and a pointed hat with celestial patterns. It creates magical bolts and other spells to harm Bloons. It is renamed Wizard Monkey in most BTD6 generation games except Bloons Adventure Time TD.

Gameplay

Wizard Monkeys can generate a variety of spells. Initially, they only learn the magic bolt spells, however they have upgrades that either improve its existing spell(s) or add new spells. Since BTD5, spells are generated independently from each other, instead of triggering random spells before attacking.

In Bloons TD 5, the top path focuses creating stronger spells that evolve into mastery of the storms. The bottom path focuses on mastering fire, including innate camo detection. Its Specialty Building in BTD5 is the Mage Spire, while its main buildings in Bloons Monkey City are the Wizard's Tower and School of Wizardry.

Starting from Bloons TD 6, many upgrades have been split off, and all storm upgrades have been moved to the Druid. The top path instead focuses on mastery of magic in general, including efficient seeking bolts. The bottom path focuses on mastery of the dark arts, including intensifying magic, innate camo detection, generating Camo-revealing pulses, and necromancy. The middle path remains fire-focused, with additional spells that drop blazes and convert the Wizard into a powerful Phoenix. In BTD6, it has a Paragon called the Magus Perfectus.

In Bloons Adventure Time TD, the Monkey Apprentice is a Super Rare ally. It always detects Camo and has all upgrades based on BTD5 up to Tier 2.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Verify if level 18 is the correct level

The Wizard Monkey is unlocked at level 18. The player throws it inside the playing field, creating a spray of magical bolts whenever landing on Bloons. Its Mega Monkey variant, Mega Wizard Monkey, creates larger bolts that can burst into more bolts.

"Wizard" is a Monkey type shared by seven Magic-class cards, including the basic Wizard Monkey. All of them can attack directly or indirectly, sometimes both.

Other appearances

  • While not specifically a Wizard Monkey, Sam fulfills a similar role to Wizard Monkey in Bloons Adventure Time TD.

The base Wizard Monkey wears a pointed hat with celestial patterns (a half crescent moon with stars) and a cloak. Since BTD5, the Wizard Monkey's main color scheme is grey with yellow. In Bloons Pop, the monkey has red blushes on its cheeks. In some games, the Wizard Monkey may hold a bolt with its hands.

As the Wizard Monkey upgrades, many of them each have a wand held on their dominant hand.
