Legend

Legends are a series of planned expansion updates for Bloons TD 6 introduced in version 47.0. Legends expansions will focus on adding additional game modes and content using the BTD6 engine. Expansions are self-contained and will not have an impact on the base game other than cosmetic items, statistics tracking, or achievement tracking (called Feats), while regular updates for game balance or new content (such as new maps or Hero skins) will also be reflected in Legends[1]. As of version 52.0, two Legends expansions have been released, both in the form of a paid in-app purchase and/or DLC available in the game's storefront.
Legends expansions share a common art style and worlds composed of hexagonal tiles. However, outside of the regular Bloons TD elements while battling Bloons, Legends feature diverse game styles, which can range from the rogue-lite gameplay and lineal movement of Rogue Legends to the long-form story and open world setting featured in Frontier Legends.
Purchasing an expansion on one platform will also unlock the DLC on other devices linked to the same account. At launch, expansions are only available on iOS, Android, Windows and MacOS (and can be delayed a few days depending on the storefront), with the Netflix and Arcade versions following some weeks after. There are plans to eventually launch them on the console version when it catches up with the updates.[1]
List of Legends
editRogue Legends
editRogue Legends, introduced in version 47.0, features a rogue-lite gameplay style using BTD6 mechanics. In this game mode, players will start a campaign by selecting a starting party composed of a Hero, a couple of Insta Monkeys and power-ups known as Artifacts, which work similarly to Relic Knowledge in the base game but with a greater variety of effects.
A campaign is divided into four stages, and each of them is played in a generated map composed of hexagonal tiles. As the player progresses, they can find tiles with Bloons that start a short BTD6 game with a custom set of rounds, which escalate in difficulty much faster. They can also encounter tiles with Loot Chests, Merchants that exchange Artifacts for other Artifacts or in-game currency, or Mini-game tiles (featuring modes like Races, Least Cash, and Boss Rush) that will reward players with Artifacts if they can reach certain scores. At the end of the map, Players will face the Final Boss; upon defeating it, they will receive a powerful Artifact or Insta Monkey and move to the next stage.
Frontier Legends
editFrontier Legends, introduced in version 52.0, features a western-themed lineal story where the player takes control of the new Sheriff of Sandytown to protect the town from the Wild Bloons and Diamondback. The Sheriff can explore diverse areas in a semi-open world environment, recruit Towers of Heroes for their posse and be a tower itself while fencing off Bloons. This game also features six new Bloon types and a fishing mini-game.
This DLC was originally called Desperado Legends[2] but got reworked due changes with Ninja Kiwi's development pipeline, resulting in the release of the Desperado tower in version 49.0 and the delay of this Legend towards the end of 2025.
| “ | Explore the Monkey Wild West within a map that dynamically reacts to your actions and allows other customizations. Go fishing, watch Bloon races, recruit posse members, hunt bounties, and go after the targets on the Most Wanted list. Highly stylized and replayable, planned for mid-year. — Update notes for version 47.0[2] |
” |
| “ | The Desperado Monkey Tower, while thematically aligned with Frontier Legends, will still drop in June. Desperado is just too cool to hold back, with three very distinct paths, weapons, and play styles, so we are super excited to get them into play this northern hemisphere summer, currently planned for mid-June. Of course, Desperado will have a fun role to play in Frontier Legends, but there will be a new sheriff in town when that drops. — Update notes for version 48.0[3] |

| “ | Frontier Legends: Already looking amazing, this western-themed DLC will feature another brand new way to play BTD, complete with integrated minigames — Update notes for version 49.0[4] |

| “ | Frontier Legends is going brilliantly. We truly hope you’ll be blown away by the way we’ve transformed what’s possible inside BTD6, and we hope to show a sneak peek in the coming month. — Update notes for version 50.0[5] |
” |
| “ | Frontier Legends continues to be an amazing project that the team is super proud of. Core mechanics are in place, 6 new Bloon types working, custom-named Monkey with special traits, an entirely new system for Monkey and Hero persistent progress, and bespoke encounters are already incredible to play. So clearly, it’s almost time to show some sneak peeks. Keep an eye on BTD6 Discord, Reddit, and our NK social media in the next few weeks as we share our first visuals and gameplay! — Update notes for version 51.0[6] |

Runic Legends
edit| The subject of this article is upcoming or in development and may change dramatically over time. This article will likely become outdated as more information is released. You can help Blooncyclopedia out by keeping it up-to-date. |
Runic Legends is an upcoming Legend originally planned for release in 2025, though it has been pushed to at least 2027.[7]
| “ | An epic crafting/modding-focused campaign, taking the raw elements of Monkey Knowledge and Artifacts and putting them in player’s hands. Find individual elements and combine them to create Monkeys with specializations far beyond their crosspaths. Get ready for mod-inspired madness with custom rounds to handle the power creep. — Update notes for version 47.0[2] |

Development
editVersion 41.0
edit"Legends" were first mentioned in the update notes for version 41.0 as a part of upcoming features for the game.
| “ | More more!: Heaps more we want to do and have penciled in, so that’s where more planning is needed and we don’t want to share that whole list and disappoint ourselves and you. [...] and framing out periodic Legends content drops for players looking for even more challenge. — Update notes for version 41.0[8] |

Version 44.0
editMore information about Legends was revealed in the update notes for version 44.0, such as that the first Legends will be DLC and a "rogue-lite adventure".
| “ | Legends - this is our answer to player questions and business questions around BTD7. We’re not ready to build BTD7 as we see incredible technical and creative potential inside BTD6 without disrupting our awesome community. With Legends, our plan is to build challenging new content that’s worthy of being in a new game and offer it inside BTD6 for a reasonable price. PC and console players will recognize that these are DLCs (downloadable content), which are standard ways to expand content on those platforms, so we are bringing this approach across to mobile as well. Overall we’ll continue to focus updates on a huge variety of content that players get at no additional cost, but we do need to keep IAPs and DLCs coming into the game to support all of our development. Hopefully tempting, this first Legends will be a BTD rogue-lite adventure. — Update notes for version 44.0[9] |

Version 45.0
editThe update notes for version 45.0 revealed that the development team was planning a "dev diary" to preview the art and gameplay of Rogue Legends.
| “ | Legends is shaping up to be amazing and we’re eager to share more details (check back to the Update 44 Notes Looking Forward if you missed the explanation). We’ll plan on at least one dev diary during development to preview the art and gameplay of this super cool rogue-lite DLC. — Update notes for version 45.0[10] |

Version 46.0
editThe update notes for version 46.0 revealed that the first Legends DLC was planned to be released in version 46.0 but was delayed until version 47.0.
| “ | Those who have been following along may note we planned to release our first Legends DLC along with version 46, but there was even more we wanted to add to truly make it a full game within the game, so we hope you won’t mind waiting until update 47 in early February. — Update notes for version 46.0[11] |

Version 47.0
editThe update preview for version 47.0 revealed more information about Rogue Legends and answered questions from the community about Legends in general.
| “ | Key New Features - Legends
Legends heralds a new way of looking at designing and building updates for BTD6. The team has so many exciting ideas, many of which could be full standalone games, and Legends gives us a way to push forward with groundbreaking ideas while maintaining the continuity of BTD6 and its awesome community. These DLC should be separate and unique enough not to feel required but to offer a very alternate way of playing. We will continue to focus on a huge variety of content that players get at no additional cost to the base game, but as these features get bigger and bigger, the team does need to keep new IAPs and DLCs coming into the game to support future development. |

Version 48.0
editIn the update preview and the update notes of version 48.0, alongside an update to Rogue Legends, Ninja Kiwi decided to scale down on the frequency of Legends DLC in favor of providing more content in a single one; additionally, they announced the rework of Desperado Legends into Frontier Legends.
| “ | Our first DLC, Rogue Legends, received an amazing response from you all, and following the fantastic feedback we received we have decided to slow down our initial Legends plans and make each one as epic as Rogue was - or more so. The 2 important takeaways from this are that v48.0 is including a significant update for Rogue Legends, and we have changed our plans to only do one more Legend this year rather than try to squeeze two in. — Update preview for version 48.0[12] |
” |
| “ | As game developers, we’ve really enjoyed the start to this year - watching the release and reactions to Rogue Legends, discussing further what we want to do with each Legends release, continuing to work on awesome new Monkey Towers and Heroes as core elements of the game, and pushing ourselves to improve the social and multiplayer features and tech. As you can see, we’ve added heaps to Rogue Legends, and we still have more great ideas, so that has fundamentally changed our approach versus what was written in the 47.0 Looking Forward notes. Not surprisingly, that lines up with many of the questions and concerns that our More Awesomer players and community had about our approach to Legends - leaning too frequently into paid content, the sustainability of doing two additional Legends drops in a year, and the impact on the team and other new content, especially Paragons. We greatly appreciate that feedback and how it balances our instincts, so let’s look at what we’re now thinking in a few key areas previously discussed.
The team absolutely loved being able to put together more content for Rogue Legends, so allowing time to have that interaction across one or more updates after a Legends drop is something we’re now planning That ability to expand scope in updates also requires highly flexible pipelines and frameworks as well as months of interaction on those systems The team did not want to have timeframe be the main driver of scope for future Legends drops, and while we had all agreed at the end of 2024 that we would try a one-small/one-large approach to 2025, we didn’t hold onto that for long after Rogue Legends released We are now moving forward with only one large Legends drop this year - Frontier Legends, which we’re planning to release in early December 2025 Rogue Legends will likely have minor additions and balance changes until then, but most of our Legends work is now on Frontier |
