  • A slower method of consistently applying fire than the Burny Stuff Mortar, but can be manually targeted, does more damage, and can attack during a turn. It remains useful for Gwen decks, which benefit from Bloons set on fire.
  • Fireball Wizard has the highest ATK out of any non-Unique Monkey that doesn't scale ATK (Night Vision Sniper is the second-highest), making it a solid choice for many decks that struggle with single-target damage during the mid-game. Notably, after ending the opponent's turn with On Fire damage, it does enough damage to pop a Yellow Bloon, and always immediately pops a Blooming Bloon only buffed by Zee Jay or Amelia even on Dark Castle.
  • Without accounting for On Fire, this is essentially a non-Military Sniper Monkey that costs 3 more Gold and does 30 more damage. Like the Sniper, it's good for single-target damage and benefits from ammo buffs like Ezili's Totem.
  • If affected by Buddy Bloon, it attacking is only worth it if wanting to trigger fire synergies such as Gwen's exclusive cards (especially Extreme Heat) or Flame Strike.

Update history

  •   ATK increased ― 90 → 100
“
Fireball Wizard has its damage increased from 100 to 120. Fireball Wizard's targeting is just so bad and so limited to the point where Fireball needs to have pretty dang high damage to really justify its usage, considering that, again, some of its damage is also spread out over turns because it's fire damage. And now it has 120 damage and now deals a solid 90 damage per turn to any Bloon that it sets on fire that is over 1 delay, making Fireball Wizard a very strong option early if your opponent is playing very few Bloons.

Development

edit

During Version 6.2 playtesting, playtesters noted that Fireball Wizard's lack of flexibility is more of an intentional weakness by design, so instead, community playtesters opted for a slight ATK buff,[1][2] making it slightly better for anti-aggro (e.g. one-shotting a Yellow Bloon after On Fire effects) and general use against single targets.[1]

Fireball Wizard's ATK was increased so that the raw damage isn't so dependent on the On Fire benefit to do damage, and also improves its effectiveness against opponents that only send one Bloon at a time, especially early on.[3] It now has the highest ATK of any non-Unique, non-scaling Monkey in the whole game.[3]
