"BTD6 Legends loading..." teaser animation[1]

Rogue Legends (or Rogue Legend)[2] is an upcoming DLC campaign for Bloons TD 6, to be introduced in version 47.0.[3] It is a "BTD rogue-lite adventure"[4] and the first of a series of DLC campaigns called Legends.[3] In this campaign, the player navigates a monkey on a tile grid with treasure chests, Bloons, campfires, and altars with Boss Bloons, and will involve a party system, multiple stages, and a feature called artifacts.[5]

Rogue Legends will involve a Quest titled Rogue Legends Preview that gives "a glimpse of the Rogue Legends campaign".[6]

Gameplay

The player begins a Rogue Legends campaign by selecting a Hero or Hero Skin, each of which comes with a default party. Parties include Insta Monkeys, which are not consumable but cost cash to place like regular towers, and artifacts. The player progresses by navigating tiles on a hexagonal grid and enters a game when running into a Bloon Encounter (represented by a Red Bloon). During an encounter, the player can earn temporary items called boosts. Completing encounters earns items called tokens (represented by an icon of Geraldo's head) that can be spent on merchants. There is an option for CHIMPS mode on the campaign menu.[7]

Parties

Parties are a set consisting of a Hero, Insta Monkeys, and artifacts. Each Hero has a unique starter party that includes two Insta Monkeys and one hero artifact, and Hero Skins can have different starter parties.

Hero Insta Monkeys Artifact
Quincy   0-0-3 Dart Monkey   0-0-3 Boomerang Monkey To be determined
Obyn Greenfoot   0-0-0 Druid   0-0-3 Druid To be determined
Ezili   0-0-0 Dart Monkey   2-0-0 Wizard Monkey To be determined
Sauda   0-2-0 Tack Shooter   0-0-2 Glue Gunner To be determined
Jiangshi Sauda   0-0-2 Wizard Monkey   0-2-0 Ice Monkey Home Brew Alchemy Common

Artifacts

Artifacts are items that can be equipped during a campaign that buff specific towers or tower categories, though some have negative effects as trade-offs. The player starts their campaign with one artifact called a "hero artifact" that depends on the Hero or Hero Skin, and can choose up to three additional "permanent artifacts". They appear to come in at least three rarities: Common, Rare, and Legendary. There are over 60 unique artifacts and upgraded versions.[7]

Name Description
Home Brew Alchemy Common Alchemist attack reload time and ability cooldowns are reduced 20% with a 1 in 20 chance to Crit for 50x damage. Adds a 1-0-1 Alchemist to your Party
Cats Meow Rare Maximum lives is set to 9, but any Bloon leaked only counts as 1 life regardless of RBE. Regenerate 3 lives at the end of each round
Fata Morgana Common Mermonkey range, pierce, projectile livespan, and ability cooldown speed increased 25%. Mermonkey projectiles reflect off map borders. Adds a 0-1-1 Mermonkey to your Party
Full Broadside Legendary Monkey Buccaneers can store up to 3 ability charges, and pierce and ability cooldown rate increased 70%. Adds a 0-2-0 Buccaneer to your Party
One Shot Rare Sniper Monkeys attack 3x slower, but have a 1 in 5 chance to Crit for 7x damage. Adds a 2-1-0 Sniper Monkey to your Party
Starting Strong Common For the first 20s of each round, Monkeys attack 15% faster
Unification Rare Primary Monkeys now count as all Monkey categories. Primary Monkey attack range reduced 10%
Zig Then Zag Common All Military Monkeys shoot in a Zig Zag pattern. Projectiles move 20% slower, but attack speed is 20% faster

Boosts

Boosts are temporary items that can be unlocked during an encounter. When the option comes up, the player can choose one of three artifacts, or spend cash to reroll them. Boosts can be Insta Monkeys, Powers (including the Cave Monkey and Portable Lake), or artifacts. Boost powers cost cash to place instead of Monkey Money. It is unknown if boost artifacts are the same as permanent artifacts.[7]

Development

"Legends" were first mentioned in passing the update notes for version 41.0 as "periodic Legends content drops for players looking for even more challenge".[8]

Version 44.0

More information about Legends was revealed in the update notes for version 44.0, and that the first Legends will be DLC and a "rogue-lite adventure".

Legends - this is our answer to player questions and business questions around BTD7. We’re not ready to build BTD7 as we see incredible technical and creative potential inside BTD6 without disrupting our awesome community. With Legends, our plan is to build challenging new content that’s worthy of being in a new game and offer it inside BTD6 for a reasonable price. PC and console players will recognize that these are DLCs (downloadable content), which are standard ways to expand content on those platforms, so we are bringing this approach across to mobile as well. Overall we’ll continue to focus updates on a huge variety of content that players get at no additional cost, but we do need to keep IAPs and DLCs coming into the game to support all of our development. Hopefully tempting, this first Legends will be a BTD rogue-lite adventure.

Version 45.0

The update notes for version 45.0 revealed that the development team was planning a "dev diary" to preview the art and gameplay of Rogue Legends.

Legends is shaping up to be amazing and we’re eager to share more details (check back to the Update 44 Notes Looking Forward if you missed the explanation). We’ll plan on at least one dev diary during development to preview the art and gameplay of this super cool rogue-lite DLC.

Version 46.0

The update notes for version 46.0 revealed that the first Legends DLC was planned to be released in version 46.0, but was delayed until version 47.0.

Those who have been following along may note we planned to release our first Legends DLC along with version 46, but there was even more we wanted to add to truly make it a full game within the game, so we hope you won’t mind waiting until update 47 in early February.
