In Our Darkest Hour... is an Exotic Power card in Bloons Card Storm, introduced in version 2.0. It draws a random Ultra Rare rarity Monkey card from the player's deck. If no Ultra Rare Monkey cards remain in the deck, the card is consumed without triggering the effect.
The card artwork depicts a Sun Temple triggering intense beams of light and a dark storm of clouds. Several monkeys are watching it.
- At the cost of 2 Gold, In Our Darkest Hour guarantees any Ultra Rare Monkey, as opposed to the ULTRA Rare Power which draws any Ultra Rare. It is best equipped if the deck's win condition is a specific Ultra Rare Monkey. Multiple of this card is redundant unless involving multiple Ultra Rare Monkeys in a control deck.
- With a cheap Monkey setup, Total Transformation Monkey could potentially be drawn and played early, creating all four Transformed Monkeys for good damage for the mid game.
- Prince Of Darkness can be drawn to support a push with high health Bloons, allowing for large pushes to be continually healed.
- Marketplace can be drawn to start up large amounts of moneymaking, allowing for earlier rushes and better defenses.
- Sun Temple is expensive, risky, and poor to draw, as its large cost makes it difficult to get out of your hand. The 2 Gold cost of the In Our Darkest Hour makes it possible to play on the same turn, although this is risky as it takes all 20 of your Gold to do this.
- Compared to ULTRA Rare Power, this card only has one charge instead of two but makes up for it with a generally more valuable pool of drawable cards and only costing 2 Gold instead of 3 Gold. In decks that run Marketplace or Prince of Darkness, they generally prefer In Our Darkest Hour over ULTRA Rare Power.
- If exactly one Ultra Rare Monkey is left in your remaining cards, playing In Our Darkest Hour guarantees that card.
- Most Ultra Rare Monkeys are quite expensive, so it is often worth mulliganning this card in the starting hand.
- Most players don't rely on specific Ultra Rare Monkeys as a wincon, and having the In Our Darkest Hour may waste space for more important control cards like board clears and monkey removals.
Gold cost decreased ― 3 → 2
In Our Darkest Hour was buffed to make it easier to tutor certain Ultra Rare Monkeys such as Marketplace and Prince of Darkness.[1] While not explicitly stated in the test commentary by OdysseyTOS, the cost reduction makes playing the card and Sun Temple doable with only max Gold. Compared to ULTRA Rare Power, that card was buffed in a different manner to avoid duplicating scope, giving a new niche that lets it draw more Ultra Rares instead of having a better early-game potential.[1] A proposal to make ULTRA Rare Power cost less but do nothing to In Our Darkest Hour was rejected, citing that former card is more purposeful for cycling through Ultra Rares, while the latter is niche for tutoring specific Ultra Rare Monkeys in faster-paced decks.[2]
