Covered Garden is an Intermediate map in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 33.0. It takes place in a garden with glass roof consisting of three moving panels. At any given time, three quarters of the garden is inaccessible: towers cannot be placed there, and towers already placed there cannot be interacted with, though their attacks and abilities work as usual. At the end of every round, one of the glass panels moves to expose a new quarter of the garden, and covering the quarter which was previously exposed.
The glass panels do not affect line of sight or projectiles; towers such as Mortar Monkey can attack covered parts of the track as normal.
This map's concept was designed by /u/SuperPsou, for the "200k Map Contest Competition" held on /r/btd6, and it was selected as a winner along with Dark Dungeons and Erosion.[1]
Layout
[edit | edit source]Covered Garden's bottom-left quarter is uncovered on Round 1, and the position of the uncovered quarter rotates 90° clockwise every round. The only openings for towers outside the glass-covered garden without line-of-sight blockers are near the start and end of the track. In addition, the 3 flower plantations within the glass-covered garden also block line-of-sight. The pond in the bottom-right of the garden is the only spot for water towers.
Tower interactions
[edit | edit source]Below is a list of how certain towers interact with the map's panels, these assume the tower is currently not being covered.
- The following towers can perform the described actions without restrictions:
- Centered Path and Heli Pilot flight patterns.
- Mortar Monkey, Dartling Gunner, Smart Spikes and Cleansing Foam attack targeting.
- As of version 49.3, there is a bug where the cursor will not show the target icon for Mortar Monkeys when it is below the glass panels, clicking will change the attack location correctly.
- Goliath Doomship, Arctic Knight, Popseidon, Gwendolin, Obyn Greenfoot and Ezili ability targeting.
- Beast Handler bottom path drop-off point.
- Place Stack of Old Nails, Tube of Amaz-o-Glue and Blade Trap from Geraldo's Shop.
- These towers can only perform certain actions to the uncovered parts of the garden.
- Target a Monkey with abilities such as Take Aim from a Deadeye, Bounty Hunter or Golden Justice, Overclock, Ultraboost and Power Glove from the Master Builder.
- Support Chinook and Special Poperations reposition and
Door Gunner, neither from lifting a covered tower nor dropping them on a blocked location. - Special Poperations Marine deploy, however, if the Heli Pilot is very close to a uncovered location, the Marine will appear there.
- Moving Dark Knight, Dark Champion, Legend of the Night and Corvus with their abilities.
- Beast Handler top and middle path Beast reposition.
- Place or give to other towers most items from Geraldo's Shop, with the exceptions listed above.
- Rosalia cannot move below a covered panel before she reaches Level 7. After that, she can move freely.
Other interactions:
- Sub-towers outside the covered panels have different interactions if their parent is inside a covered panel. Sub-towers that are allowed to inherit buffs from their main tower and that can be selected (e.g. Beast Handler's dinos) cannot open their parents' menus, but can still be selected to reveal their ranges.
- Rosalia, which is technically an air unit connected to her workshop, has the same interaction rules as Beast Handler dinos and fish.
Strategy
[edit | edit source]Covered Garden is moderately difficult when compared to other intermediate tracks, with the glass panels mechanic often being a source of frustration. The first few rounds on CHIMPS may take multiple tries to get down. However, it is a single-lane map, and it can be cheesed by placing global towers such as Heli Pilots outside the glass-covered garden, which gets around the track's main gimmick. For towers inside the garden, save-ups should be prepared for advance, so that they can be upgraded before a panel covers them. Towers that get around Covered Garden's mechanics well are listed here.
Recommended towers and upgrades
[edit | edit source]| Name | Portrait | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Corvus | When placed at the front of the track, Corvus can constantly farm mana and is uninhibited in any way by the glass panels. He trivializes the early-game, saves up large amounts of money in the mid-game, and performs well in the late-game thanks to Ancestral Might and Overload. He can move into a more optimal spot for coverage inside the garden at any time with his Level 7 Spirit Walk ability, and can move out of the garden at any time as well, even when he is covered by the panel. | |
| Geraldo | When placed outside of the garden, Geraldo's shop can be used at any time. This gives him flexibility to use most of his items when needed, such as Blade Trap for leaking clumps of Bloons that result from not upgrading towers in time and Genie Bottle for any difficult round. His Pet Rabbit also does solid damage for its cost across the map. Note that Geraldo's on-tower items, such as Gerry's Fire and Jar of Pickles, cannot be placed on covered towers. He also excels on Intermediate maps in general, as his shop refresh occurs on Round 95 in CHIMPS if placed relatively early, allowing for effectively doubled usage of his items for the hardest rounds. | |
| Comanche Commander | Comanche Commander's global attacking nature allows it to function while placed outside of the garden. With Geraldo's Sharpening Stone and Glue Storm's +2 damage debuff and de-Leading of DDTs, Comanche Commander does both good all-around damage and some support with its shove. |
