Cleansing Foam is the Engineer Monkey's path 2 tier 3 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It grants the Engineer Monkey an additional foam attack which can be targeted anywhere within the Engineer Monkey's range, and continuously sprays its target with foam. Bloons that touch the foam will lose their Camo and Regrow properties, if they have it. Additionally, Lead Bloons (not DDTs) will lose their outer layers instantly upon touching the foam, even if Fortified. All attacks' speed is quadrupled for 1 second at the start of each round.

Mechanics

[edit | edit source]

The Engineer Monkey's foam attack has a cooldown of 2s, which is reduced to 1s with the Faster Engineering upgrade. Each foam has a pierce of 10, which is increased to 15 by the Oversize Nails upgrade. Thicker Foams Thicker Foams increases foam pierce by 3. With the Pin upgrade, foam slows down non-MOAB-Class Bloons that touch it by 0.5× for 1 second. Foam has a lifespan of 8.5s. Foam can be targeted anywhere within the Engineer Monkey's range, including over obstacles and off the track.

Foam deals no damage to Bloons, other than Lead Bloons. When a Lead Bloon touches foam, its outer layer will pop instantly even if it is Fortified (this does not apply to DDTs). Foam removes the Camo and Regrow properties of any Bloon it hits, including DDTs. Each Bloon that touches it uses up one of the foam's pierce, even if the foam did not affect it in any way.

All attacks have their attack speed increased by 4× for 1 second at the start of every round. This is considered a buff and can be stolen by Lych.

If an Engineer Monkey has both the Cleansing Foam and Sentry Gun upgrades, the deployed Sentries remove Camo and Regrow properties as well as instantly pop Lead layers, but not necessarily damage Lead properties. However, the Sentries need external buffs to target Camo Bloons. These Sentries remove the Camo property from DDTs if given Camo detection, even if they cannot damage them due to the Lead property.

Strategy

[edit | edit source]
This section was last updated for: version 55.2

Cleansing Foam is a viable option for dealing with Camo Bloons in the early to mid game, however it lacks the pierce to be reliable against some rounds with dense Camo Bloons such as round 78. The ability to handle lead, camo, and regrow makes it cheap, flexible option in early-game ABR. It also has a niche in removing Camo from DDTs in the late game by targeting it slightly off the track so it doesn't waste pierce on other targets. The increased attack speed at the start of rounds helps produce enough foam before the Bloons arrive. Although Lych will steal the start-of-round speed buff to gain back Regrow, Cleansing Foam is consistent enough to maintain almost full uptime against Lych's Regrow properties.

Crosspaths are optional. 2-3-0 is more reliable Regrow removal, offering sentries that strip more Bloons and a faster dispersal of foam per second, and the start-of-round speed boost improves sentry production particularly in Boss Rush. Bottom crosspaths are preferred late-game to slow Super Ceramics and deal with denser Bloons.

Continuing our efforts to make crosspaths meaningful and fit the style of each path more solidly, a number of crosspath and base level balance shifts were made.
— Update notes
1-3-0, 2-3-0
  • Buff Larger Service Area crosspath now increases Sentry range by +4
Engineer is quite poor in terms of crosspathing, so we’ve added crosspath benefits to Cleansing Foam [...]
— Update notes
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $150 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
0-3-1, 0-3-2
  • Buff Foam attack: Pierce with Oversized Nails increased ― 10 → 15
1-3-0, 2-3-0
  • Buff Deconstruction: now grants all Sentries +1 damage to Fortified & MOAB
we have also re-envisioned the ‘Larger Service’ crosspath as giving smarter service as well in the form for targeting for Bloontrap & Cleansing Foam
— Update notes
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $50 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
  • Buff Foam attack: Manual targeting option added
  • Foam attack: Now counts damage when popping Lead Bloons (bug fix)
Cleansing Foam has had some extra crosspath utility added at the cost of a small price increase
— Update notes
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $800 → $850
0-3-2
  • Buff Pin crosspath allows Cleansing Foam to slow Bloons by 50% for 2 seconds
  • Buff Pin crosspath allows Cleansing Foam to slow all MOAB-class (including BADs) by 50% for 2 seconds (bug)
1-3-0, 2-3-0
  • Buff Foam makes Sentries shoot Foamy nails that strip properties
032 Engineer Cleansing Foam now works correctly on all MOAB Class targets - hope you enjoyed that temporary treat
— Update notes
0-3-2
  • Nerf Cleansing Foam: no longer slows MOAB-class bloons (including BADs) with Pin crosspath (bug fix)
0-3-2
  • Buff Cleansing Foam slow stacks on a single target (bug)
0-3-2
  • Nerf Foam slow effect no longer stacks on a single target (bug fix)
The MOAB offense of top path lacks for a mainly dps tower that is quite complex to use [...] the 320 crosspath will now be able to double dip on the Fortified & MOAB damage bonuses that it gains. Cleansing Foam is only seeing a slight tweak to help it be more viable if you want to attempt it as 'main camo detection’, and this mainly fixes some issues in ABR games allowing it to catch quick initial camo spawns.
— Update notes
  • Buff All attacks: Now gains 1s of 4x rate on round start
1-3-0, 2-3-0
  • Buff Sentry: Deconstruction's bonus damage to MOAB-Class Bloons and Fortified Bloons are no longer mutually exclusive
While better than many options, base Engineer still takes a lot of available starting cash so the cost is reduced slightly and being moved back up into Cleansing Foam & Bloontrap [...]
— Update notes
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $850 → $900
    • Neutral Overall cost is unchanged (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
Really only one major change here; a rebalancing to how the 2xx Crosspath applies across various engineer upgrades, and some base stats being changed to accommodate fitting this.
