— In-game teaser page

Frontier Legends is a Legend DLC for Bloons TD 6, released in version 52.0.[1] It is a Western-themed adventure where the player takes control of Sheriff who protects Sandytown from the Wild Bloons and Diamondback. This Legend features a linear story happening in an semi-open world composed of hexagonal tiles, in the same art style as Rogue Legends.
It features minigames,[2] fishing, recruiting posse members,[3] six new Bloon types, a new system for persistent tower and Hero progression, and Sheriff, who is a custom-named Monkey with special traits.[1] It also features its own seat of Feats (achievements), cosmetic rewards, and a difficulty system for the campaign.
Purchasing the DLC unlocks an exclusive Avatar, Profile Banner and Pet, and the Monkey Names from the Trophy Store.
A demo version of Frontier Legends is available in-game in the "Frontier Legends Preview" Quest.
Availability

Frontier Legends is a paid in-app purchase in Bloons TD 6. It is officially priced at USD$12.99[4], though the actual cost will depend on platform and region.
As of release, the DLC is advertised in-game with a splash screen and a pop-up above the "Legends" button, with a pulsating Sheriff.
Plot
The story starts with Sheriff waking up at Boulder Falls alongside its pet companion Arny the armadillo and decides to go for a stroll where he finds Scout being threatened by a Bloon and rushes to help by telling them to hide on the grass so the Bloon can't see them, after that Sheriff escorts Scout back to Sandytown but their path is blocked by some boulders, so Sheriff lures a Dynamite Bloon and makes it explode to clear the way.
Back in Sandytown they hear a scream nearby, so they run to check and find that it came from the town's leader Mr Mayor, who was stealing some of Scout's banana cookies when Bloons starting attacking the town so Sheriff decides to help the residents. In that moment Mr Mayor flees taking the cookies so Scout chases after him, leaving Sheriff alone to deal with the Bloon problem so he teams up with some of the town's residents to defeat them. With the problem solved, Sheriff and Scout talk with Mr Mayor who decides to appoint Sheriff as the new town's sheriff disregarding anyone's input in the matter and then gathers the entire town for the announcement, giving himself the credit for it while Scout gives Sheriff their Badge.
After that, the Sheriff gets used to the town by visiting his new Homestead, the Saloon and the General Store. Then Sheriff is called by Mr Mayor who gifts him an old fishing rod and assigns him a task to go fishing because he is participating in a fish population study done by the Monkey Knowledge Society and gets a small Bananite compensation for every captured fish that he agrees to split with Sheriff. After going to the nearby river to accomplish this task Sheriff returns to Mr Mayor where it is revealed that the old fishing rod actually belongs to Scout but they allow Sheriff to keep it.
Scout then asks Sheriff to check on some Bloons that are causing problems in Boulder Falls, so they head towards the place where they meet with a Desperado called Dirk Quickshot who teams up with Sheriff to defeat the Bloons that are scattered all over the area while trying to find where they came from, this leads the trio to Sunset Gulch, but ends up being a dead end. Dirk suggests finding a Beast Handler named Hazel who is very good at tracking. Scout then leads Sheriff towards a trading post in Boulder Falls in hopes to meet her, but as they are approaching, they hear Mr Mayor screaming because Bloons are attacking the trading post.
After beating the Bloons, Scout learns Hazel isn't there anymore and has headed towards Sulfur Springs, so Scout and Sheriff return to Sandytown to travel south and they find Hazel just after reaching Sulfur Springs. From there they track the Bloons to the Underground Cave and continue deep into the cavern until they stumble into a non-natural set of tunnels which makes Sheriff uneasy, so he suggests to return to Sandytown and inform Mr Mayor of their findings. Scout and Sheriff keep going inside the tunnel as they see light coming up from above nearby, and to their surprise, they are back to the sinkhole in Sandytown.
They quickly find Mr Mayor and Sheriff tells him that the tunnels they found underground are of the same type that were discovered in a town Sheriff used to live, just a few months before the town was destroyed, and whoever was causing the tunnels attacked the town's supplies first. Scout then remembers that somebody in the Saloon was talking about supply raids in Oak Valley, so they suggest to go to the Village over there investigate if the attacks are related.
On their way they walk along a path called Wagon's Way where Scout arranges a meeting with a Druid called Devinah, who believes the source of the problem comes from the Ancient Forest and she offers her help to show Scout and Sheriff the way. Later, they stumble into a Farm in the Furlong Fields which is being attacked by Bloons which is saved by the trio. After that, they reach the Great Oak Village to rest and prepare to travel to the Ancient Forest, but as they were getting ready to leave Bloons started attacking the Village.
After clearing the Great Oak Village, Sheriff, Scoop and Devinah reach the Ancient Forest, which is also being attacked by Bloons which surprises Devinah as Bloons have never come this close to the Forest and Sheriff suspects they have been using the tunnels to move, Devinah urges Sheriff and Scoop to defend the Ancient Tree, which is the power source of the Forest and after defeating all Bloons in the area Sheriff notes that there isn't any relevant tunnels or sinkholes in the Forest so he realizes that Bloons couldn't have arrived from underground and Devinah deduces the only other place they could have come from is the Swamp, where other Monkeys say they have seen Ghost Bloons. Sheiff and Scout return to the Great Oak Village to head towards the Swamp alone as Devinah has to stay to help repair all the damage the Bloons caused in the Forest and the Village.
Scout and Sheriff enter the Muddy Passage and are spooked by some Bloons which turn out to not be Ghosts but Glass Bloons. Relieved, they continue walking without realizing a Necromancer is following them. They finally arrive deep into The Swamp and find an old mansion, where the Necromancer reveals herself and helps Scout and Sheriff to repel some Bloons using her Zombie minions, the duo starts to trust her and follows to the Crypts inside a temple in the middle of the Swamp. Inside, the Necromancer disappears next to the 400-years old tomb of Styx, savior of the Town of Midnight. Scout and Sheriff continue exploring the Crypts until they find another tunnel, Scout then asks Sheriff what happened in his old town, to what Sheriff answers that he didn't saw the culprit directly, but could hear it and observed how everything was swallowed into the ground. After the conversation, the Necromancer appears again to give Sheriff and Scout and note to immediately disappear again, they read the note that only says "Thanks, that was fun" and signed Styx.
Scout then suggest looking at The Coast now as the tunnels seem to be headed that way. As soon they arrive, they meet Mr Mayor and Dirk who is escorting him to his house in the beach, but Mr Mayor locks himself inside the house so Dirk stays there to help Mr Mayor while Scout and Sheriff continue their investigation. After a long travel through Ridgefall and Mountain's End, they finally arrive to The Coast, where they see a Mermonkey called Khai near a shipwreck, but it quickly disappears while Sheriff is left shocked as he believed Mermonkeys were just a myth. After that, they are attacked by some Bloons and after defending themselves, Scout notices they came from the ocean, so their source must be that way, after that they use a nearby ship which seems to belong to Mr Mayor to sail towards Spice Islands.
Sheriff and Scout disembark at the Islands, only to find they are infested by Bloons, and after defeating some of those, the Mermonkey appears again, Sheriff and Scout try to talk with him but the Khai quickly leaves because he doesn't trust their intentions, leaving the duo chasing after him, later, they manage to catch up, but only because he is being attacked by some Bloons. With the problem solved, they finally manage to talk and Sheriff asks Khai if he has seen the tunnels, to which the Mermonkey answers that yes, and in fact he's patrolling one that appeared recently, Sheriff and Scout ask Khai if he can lead them to it, Khai doesn't want to do it at first at first but after Sheriff tell him that the tunnels stretch north to the desert and is a threat to the entire Frontier, Khai finally accepts if they keep the location of his home secret.
They sail again and arrive to The Sunken Columns, and as usual, Bloons are attacking the area, Khai leaves Sheriff and Scout to deal with some of the attackers as he goes to check on other Mermonkeys that live nearby and then returns to the duo to fight against the remaining Bloons all the way at their home in Luminous Cove. After the battle, Khai shows Sheriff and Scout the tunnel, Scout takes notes and after that they are ready to come back to The Coast. Khai thanks the help and opens a shortcut path so Sheriff and Scout can return quickly.
Back in The Coast, Scout suggest to climb to Frozen Peak in their search for more data about the tunnels and finds a mountain guide who can help them, they go to the base of the peak in Mountain's End but find a rock blockade, and while trying to think what to do about them, they start hearing explosions which blow up the blockade which were caused by an Alchemist named Rocko who is also their mountain guide, together they climb the Sanctuary Overlook to reach Frozen Peak, beating some Bloons along the way, Rocko keeps blowing up obstacles and says there is more rubble around recently so Sheriff deducts there must be a tunnel nearby. They continue into Alpine Run, but there's too much snow to continue and Rocko takes them by another route. They end up in Glacial Trail and after clearing some roadblocks, they enter a cave named Lost Crevasse where they find the tunnel, Scout takes notes and finally, they thank Rocko and start their descent from the mountain.
Back in Sandytown Scout and Sheriff talk with Mr Mayor and Scout tells them that the tunnel is likely continuing north beyond Sunset Gulch towards The Temple. As they proceed past a barricade, Scout and Sheriff reunite with Mr Mayor, Dirk and Hazel and together they walk into The Temple. Inside they find an giant snake Bloon called Diamondback and together they manage to force it to retreat, however, it goes into a tunnel that will eventually lead to Sandytown. Sheriff orders Dirk, Hazel and Mr Mayor to return to Sandytown and prepare the town for the attack while he and Scout try to stop Diamondback following the tunnel.
Their first stop is Glacial Trail, where Rocko and Khai reunite to help in the fight, but Diamondback manages to escape again, heading towards Luminous Cove. Khai says the Mermonkeys there can defend themselves so Sheriff and Scout think on catching Diamondback in The Swamp, but first they stop by the Great Oak Village to warn the residents. Devinah helps them to warn the village and then she comes along to The Swamp where they also encounter Styx, they fight Diamondback but it escapes again, this time going into the Underground Cave next to Sulfur Springs. Before entering the cave, they team up again with Dirk and Hazel but ultimately they couldn't stop Diamondback and are forced to rush back into their home. Back in Sandytown, Dirk, Hazel, Devinah, Styx, Khai and Rocko are there and ready for the final fight against Diamondback, and after a hard fight, they manage to defeat the Boss Bloon and bring peace to the Frontier.
Characters
Sheriff

Sheriff, the player character of Frontier Legends, is a monkey whose home was destroyed by Diamondback, and after surviving in the wilderness of the Frontier, he stumbles upon Scout and follows him to Sandytown where he is later appointed as the new sheriff by Mr Mayor. Sheriff then recruits a Posse and together they work to protect the town and to track down the origin of the Wild Bloons, usually with the help of Scout and other Monkeys that he meets during his travels.
While battling Bloons, Sheriff can be placed as a tower with the unique ability Giddy Up. Sheriff can also equip different hats, outfits and weapons to change the attacks and passive buffs that Sheriff can grant to himself or the members of his Posse.
Diamondback

Diamondback is a Boss Bloon who serves as the primary antagonist in the story. In the past it destroyed the town where Sheriff used to live and now lives underground, creating tunnels where Bloons can freely move from place to place unnoticed, causing havoc cross the entire frontier.
Scout
Scout is a friendly monkey and one of the inhabitants of Sandytown who was rescued by Sheriff when a Bloon tried to attack them. They later helps Sheriff to adapt to their new life in Sandytown and travels with him trying to find the source of all those Bloons that have been attacking the Frontier. They wear a cowboy hat, jacket, a yellow bandana over their neck and a pistol belt.
Mr Mayor
Mr Mayor is an old monkey and the mayor of Sandytown. He wears a top hat, glasses, suit jacket and a bowtie. He is a downplayed version of a sleazy politician archetype, using common tropes such as not listening to what other monkeys are saying, giving himself credit over achievements he had little to do with, wasting public funds to hire the Sheriff, the people of Sandytown being implied to not possess the right to vote, and finding excuses to flee when questioned, but Scout ultimately says he "means well". He is fond of banana cookies and will even go as far as stealing them from other monkeys.
Other supporting characters
During the story, Sheriff meets other friendly Monkeys which offer their help to solve the problems that happen in the Frontier (this list may contain minor spoilers):
- Dirk: He is a self-confident Bounty Hunter Desperado which teams up with Sheriff to push the Bloons away from Boulder Falls, later, he is hired by Mr Mayor to escort him to his vacation house in Ridgefall.
- Hazel: She is a friendly Golden Eagle Beast Handler who is an expert at tracking, she uses her extremely keen senses to help Sheriff and Scout to track the origin of the Bloons using unconventional methods like smelling or tasting objects like dirt, rocks and leafs to do so.
- Devinah: She is a Druid of the Jungle which leads to Sheriff and Scout to the Ancient Forest and asks for their help to defend the forest and the Great Oak Village from the Bloon attacks, she is very fond of the plants that are raised by the Druids in the zone.
- ???: She is a Necromancer Wizard Monkey capable of disappearing and reappearing at will. She reveals herself to Sheriff and Scout after stalking and giggling near them for a while they investigate Muddy Passage and The Swamp.
- Khai: He is a Riptide Champion Mermonkey that Scout and Sheriff meet near a shipwreck in The Coast, they try to talk to him, but he goes away as he doesn't fully trust Sheriff and Scout yet because he wants to preserve the secrecy of the Mermonkey society.
- Rocko: He is a Stronger Stimulant Alchemist and an expert at climbing. He is contacted by Scout to help him and Sheriff to reach the top of the Frozen Peak. He likes using explosives to solve any problem that arises, sometimes recklessly. The constant explosions have damaged his hearing over time, so he needs to yell and be yelled at to communicate.
Game setting

Frontier Legends takes place in an semi-open world setting composed of Sandytown and 39 connected areas to explore, with some of them resembling maps from BTD6. While in-game, the player controls Sheriff and can move freely across the hexagonal tiles which compose the world, while followed by a pet of their choice.
The main areas may also include a number of named sub-areas which do not appear in the map, these will be listed below under one of the areas they are connected to:
There is also a day-night cycle in the game that can be changed at a Campfire, it currently increases the amount of the Roaming Bloons that wander around and might also make them more aggressive towards Sheriff. Ninja Kiwi has stated that there are plans to add more mechanics to this in the future[5].
Sandytown

Sandytown is a small town which serves as the hub area of the game. It has several buildings which serve specific gameplay purposes:
- Sheriff's Homestead: Used by Sheriff and his Posse to rest and recover stamina at a very fast rate. Also Sheriff can also change his equipment, in-game name or pet companion and swap around Posse members with Ranch Hands.
- Saloon: In this building Sheriff recruit new Towers and Heroes for his Posse (or for Ranch Hands when it is full), in exchange for some Bananite.
- General Store: Here Sheriff can buy items from Geraldo using Bananite which can include permanent upgrades for the Saloon, his Homestead, Equipment or his own stats as a tower.
Game mechanics
Main Menu

After selecting Frontier Legends in the Legends menu, the player is shown a screen with a visual of Sheriff seated next to a campfire during the night where they can click on the Campaign button at the bottom to resume their currently selected save file or changing it by using the save button, the game supports two independent save files. The Frontier Feats list can be accessed by clicking the Achievements icon on the left. Also, in the settings menu, there is a button force Sheriff to respawn at the Campfire in Sandytown as a fail-safe in case the Player gets stuck or is affected by a bug.
Campaign difficulty
Since version 54.0, the campaign can be played in four different difficulty levels that can be changed at any moment from the save menu:
If the player starts and beats a campaign in Extreme difficulty without switching it at any point, they can earn the Final Frontier Feat. The Custom option will be available after the player completes a campaign in any difficulty and allows to modify certain aspects of the game, each of those options can add to a "Difficulty Rate" score:
Movement
Players can move Sheriff by clicking/touching a tile on the screen to make Sheriff walk automatically towards it. Sheriff will also change directions as soon a different tile is selected, even if they haven't reached their previous destination yet, so players can drag their click/touch to keep Sheriff on movement.
Sheriff can walk over most of terrain types except deep water and corn crops, and can hide from Bloons in the grass, but will move slower on them. Sheriff can interact with certain objects such as chests if the player clicks on their tile. If the player selects a tile where Sheriff cannot move into (for example: environmental objects, inaccessible due of some barrier or water terrain) the selection is ignored and Sheriff will stay on place or keep walking towards their last valid target.
The game will tell the player their current objective in a banner in the top central area of the screen, clicking on the sparks button next to it will reveal a sparkling trail which points out to that objective which is usually a specific hexagonal tile which shines with a giant sheriff badge floating over it, moving Sheriff to that tile will activates it and progress the story. Players can also click on the Campfire icon in the top right of the screen (next to the settings button) to make the sparking path point towards the nearest Campfire instead.
Ranch Hands and Posse

Ranch Hands are the Monkeys that Sheriff recruits at the Saloon in exchange for some Bananite which can be regular custom-named towers (these are always recruited with no upgrades) or Heroes (initial level is skin-dependant). The player can have up to 25 different Monkeys as Ranch Hands, but this number can be increased by purchasing Homestead Renovation upgrades at the General Store. Upgrades applied to Monkeys cost Bananite (same amount as in Medium difficulty) and are permanent. Heroes also don't gain XP, so their levels also need to be purchased, with higher levels being discounted.
Sheriff can also encounter much more powerful towers in the Saloon known as Legendary Recruits, which have some upgrades pre-applied and have powerful traits, but their Bananite recruit cost is also much higher. These have fixed custom manes, upgrades and Traits, and some of them are feature names which reference popular Bloon content creators.
To use the Ranch Hands in a Bloon Encounter the player must first assign them to the Sheriff's Posse at a Campfire or in the Homestead. The Posse is is limited to a maximum of 6 members at the same time, not counting Sheriff. The amount of Heroes that can be in the Posse is limited at the start of the campaign by the amount of Deputy Badges Sheriff has, the first one is granted at the start of the game (as the Sheriff's Badge) and the rest are given by Mr Mayor as the story progresses or found on Loot Chests.
Each Ranch Hand has a series of one to three passive effects called traits. These have effects such as applying stat boosts, granting the capability of popping certain types of Bloons, and even the ability to summon friendly Zombie Bloons. However, there are also negative traits that have prejudicial effects, like reducing the amount of Bananite earned or not being able to Retreat. Heroes and Hero Skins each have a pre-determined set of traits and their starting level is also fixed.
The following towers cannot be recruited at all in Frontier Legends:
- Banana Farms
- 0-0-0 Monkey Villages (Legendary recruits are the only way to obtain villages in the Posse)
- Benjamin
- Geraldo
Sacrifice interactions
Members of the Posse are permanent until dismissed so they have special interactions with towers that can sacrifice them like Adora, Sun Temples or the True Sun God:
- Towers can be sacrificed as usual but they won't disappear forever, unless using Adora's Blood Sacrifice in Extreme difficulty or any campaign with Tower Fleeing enabled. Instead, they return to the tower selection menu and can be deployed again in the same or in a different game, however Adora's Blood Sacrifice sets their Stamina to 0, so the player needs to use Banana Cookies to restore some Stamina to place the Posse member again in the same game.
- Their sacrifice value works in the same way as Insta Monkey, which is $0 unless they are upgraded in the game they are placed, which only adds the upgrade cost to the sacrifice value. If sacrificed in this state, a Sun Temple / True Sun God will gain the appropriate effects according to the value, but the extra sacrifice effects will be lost at the end of the game or when retreated. Adora (and top path Super Monkeys) will have her stats buffed but will not gain any Hero XP from the sacrifice.
- Even if upgraded in a game, the sacrifice value will be lost when retreated or if the game ends, resetting it to $0.
- Sheriff cannot be sacrificed by Adora but can be sacrificed to a Sun Temple or True Sun God (for no value).
- Story Towers can be sacrificed as usual (with $0 sacrifice value).
Bloons
Roaming Bloons
The player can encounter Bloons wearing cowboy hats wandering around the map, known as Roaming or Wandering Bloons. If they spot Sheriff, they can either attack or flee. If the Bloon collides with Sheriff, a dialog is presented to the player to indicate which action should Sheriff take:
- If the Bloon was attacking:
- Run!: Loses some Bananite and reduces the Stamina of the Posse.
- Distract!: Consumes a Fake Wallet but allows Sheriff to escape without consequences.
- Fight!: Starts a Quick Draw minigame.
- If the Bloon was fleeing:
- Let It Go! Finishes the encounter without consequences.
- Fight!: Starts a Quick Draw minigame.
After taking a decision or playing the minigame the Roaming Bloon will disappear (except on the Let It Go! option) and will respawn after a certain amount of time. Roaming Bloons are more common during the night and might also be more aggressive towards Sheriff
These are the different kinds of Bloons that roam the Frontier:
Red Bloon
Blue Bloon
Green Bloon
Pink Bloon
Fortified Red Bloon
Zombie Bloon
Glass Bloon
MOAB
BFB
ZOMG

Bloon Encounters
| This article is in need of research. You can help out by editing this article or discussing your findings on the talk page. The editor who added this notice elaborates:
|
Some of the Bloons in the map will start a game of BTD6 instead of a Quick Draw event. These are indicated by three Red Bloons moving around a specific object in one of the tiles of the world. The object represents a specific map and is the same asset that is used in an Odyssey island. If the battle is mandatory to progress to the story, the tile will have a floating sheriff badge over it, otherwise they are classified as a "Side Mission", and can have a much higher difficulty than the current encounters in the story and they may even be a battle against Boss Bloons.
These games play as a regular Apopalypse game of BTD6 in Medium difficulty using a roundset exclusive to the DLC. The map's overall theme (grass, snow, desert, etc.) will usually be representative of the current location in the overworld (for example, desert areas will host maps like End Of The Road or Three Mines 'Round). Unlike regular Apopalypse games, the player will be given time to place their towers before starting the game and after the player reaches the final round of the game, the Bloons will stop spawning.
To defeat the Bloons, the player can only use Sheriff and the active members of their Posse plus possibly other pre-placed characters depending on the story. There is not a sell mechanic but Players can remove Towers by clicking on the Retreat button; these will not be lost, but the Player must pay Stamina to place them again later. Map mechanics that normally depend on cash like Removables or Gizmos now cost a reduced amount of Bananite instead of cash or might even be disabled.
On these games, at the end of some pre-determined rounds, the game will spawn additional groups of Bloons alongside the regular spawns, which is warned by the game by showing "Reinforcements Incoming" banner in the top right of the map.
Frontier Legends Features six exclusive types of Bloons, these will usually only appear as Reinforcements, but as the campaign progresses, they can also start spawning naturally.
Dynamite Bloon: It has 30 health and start a fuse animation when damaged. If they reach 10 health or lower it stops in place and starts a countdown, where, if not popped before it expires, it produces an explosion with a radius of 35 units that stuns nearby Towers for 6s and pop other Bloons caught in the explosion radius. They release 2 Black Bloons and 3 Regrow Red Bloons when popped.
Glass Bloon: Immune to Energy, Plasma and Acid attacks and bounces back those attacks, it has 20 health and releases 1 Zebra Bloon, 1 Regrow Zebra Bloon and 1 Camo Zebra Bloon when popped.
Diamond Bloon: They only take 1 damage from any incoming attack and reduces the pierce of the projectile by 5. Also they are immune to all forms of stun and slowdown, like a BAD in addition to instakill attacks. It has 80 health and releases 1 Fortified Ceramic Bloon when Popped.
Aura Bloon: They create an area of effect with a radius of 40 units around it which increases the speed of other Bloons by 35%. It has 40 health and releases 3 Red Bloons, 3 Blue Bloons, 3 Green Bloons, 3 Yellow Bloons, and 3 Pink Bloons when popped.
Retribution Bloon: When a tower damages it 5 times (regardless of the damage), the Bloon will retaliate and stun the attacking tower 1.5s. Popping the Bloon will also stun the tower that did the final blow for 6s. It is immune to all slowdown effects, has 100 health and releases 4 Yellow Bloons and 2 Purple Bloons when popped.
Ringleader Bloon: They create a shield with 80 health and with a radius of 34.5 units around it which protects all Bloon inside it, but it limits their speed while inside the barrier. It has 30 health releases 3 Rainbow Bloons when popped.
After winning the battle, the player can replay the map, but it will be considered a "Replay" which usually lower rewards and features a a later set of rounds (for example, if the story game was from rounds 1/20, the replay could be played at rounds 16/25).
If the player is defeated or they exit the game, upon re-enter the game will continue at the start of the last round that player cleared, without any Towers in the map (other than story towers, if any). After the story is completed, the "Replay" version of the map is changed by an "Elite" version, which plays into much later rounds and has higher rewards. The "Elite" version of the map is also applied to Side Missions and Boss Battles, even if the player didn't clear them during the story, beating this mode gives a "Black Border" for the map, and the mode changes to "Elite Replay" which is identical to "Elite".
The following challenge rules apply to all story encounters (specific encounters may also have other rules such as Bloon / MOAB / Boss Health or Speed, All Regrow, etc.):
Lives
Players can have up to 200 lives in all difficulty levels and the amount persists between Bloon Encounters, if the player loses all their lives, they will be defeated and Sheriff will return to the last visited Campfire, but their Posse will regain all Stamina, except on Extreme difficulty where the campaign will be lost instead. Lives can be restored by Health Potions, the Healy-ma-jig persistent items or by resting at a Campfire or at Sheriff's Homestead. The items Lots o' Lives and All the Lives of the General increase the maximum amount of lives to 300 and 400, permanently. Failing a Quick Draw mini-game or selecting the Run! option will also result in a loss of some Lives which increases with the strength of the Bloon.
Stamina

Stamina is a mechanic which represents the energy of each Posse member through a percentage meter. When any Tower is placed its Stamina is reduced by 4% and it is further reduced every round by some amount which depends on the maximum upgrade tier of the Tower (0.5% times its highest upgrade Tier). Heroes consume Stamina according to their level (0.5% at Levels 1-6, 1% at Levels 7-9 and 1.5% at Levels 10+).
Stamina persists through battles and if it drops below 12.5% the tower's attack speed and range will be decreased, shown by a low stamina icon that appears over the Tower when selected, and cannot be placed again if the Stamina reaches 0%, even in the same game if it retreated. Towers can still be placed when it has less than 4% Stamina remaining but will immediately drop to 0%.
Stamina can be recovered in several ways such as resting at Campfires or at Sheriff's Homestead, by eating Banana Cookies or by Fishing.
Campfire
While exploring, the players can encounter campfires where they can restore lost lives immediately and recover stamina passively for all Posse members. They can also fast travel to any other campfire the player has encountered before by selecting it the world's map and can also switch between day and night settings by clicking on the Day/Night button (it does not have an effect on the Stamina recovery). The last campfire visited also serves as a checkpoint in case the player is defeated in battle.
Map

In the campfire, or at the board in the center of Sandytown, players can consult a map of the world, it will indicate the names of areas the player has visited and highlight the approximate location of certain features:
Campfires (the player can fast travel to them by clicking the icon)
Underground locations
Fishing spots
Sandytown
Day/Night

Clicking this button changes the world to Day or Night, which changes the overall illumination to the level of a underground cave. Also, Wild Bloons will be more abundant and the chances of finding stronger Bloons are also increased. Zombie Bloons that rise from the ground are also more common.
Bananite

Frontier Legends features a banana-shaped currency called Bananite which can be used to recruit Posse members, upgrade them or buy items at the General Store. Sheriff starts the campaign with 500 Bananite.
Bananite is earned by collecting them from loot chests or banana-shaped crystals scattered across the world, winning rounds, clearing battles against the Bloons and by capturing fish. In contrast to the base game, regular pops don't earn any cash, income-generating towers are either unobtainable (Banana Farms, Benjamin), have their abilities disabled (Supply Drop, Support Chinook), don't generate extra cash based on pops (Bloon Trap, Obyn Greenfoot) or don't have their end of round effect active (Merchantman, Jungle's Bounty). If the player is defeated in battle in Medium difficulty or above, they will also lose 20% of their currently held Bananite.
Inventory

To help the Sheriff and their Posse, the player can buy consumable items from the General Store or find them on chests. The available consumable items in the Inventory are:
Fake Wallet: Ends a Quick Draw Event without any consequence for Sheiff other than consuming the item.
Old Key: Used to open chests.
Health Potion: Restores 100 Lives.
Banana Cookies: Restores 25% stamina, up to a maximum of 80%.- Powers
Loot chests
Chests can be found scattered all over the world, and to open it the player needs an Old Key, which can be purchased from the General Store, or dropped by Bloons after Quick Draw events. Possible rewards include Sheriff's equipment, Deputy Bagdes or 1,500 Bananite.
Random Encounters

During the campaign, Sheriff and his Posse can get trigger events known as Random Encounters, these are usually started by resting at a Campfire or by talking to certain NPC Monkeys that appear at random across the Frontier. When triggered, the player will be presented with a text describing the situation and a set of options that represent the actions that Sheriff can do in response. Afterwards, the variety of the consequences can be very wide, for example, the player can win or lose Bananite, Monkeys can leave the Posse and wander somewhere else, towers can gain temporal traits (positive or negative) or even permanently modify the ones they already have.

If Sheriff is fishing or at the Homestead, they can see their Colection which tracks progress about the player's exploration of the Frontier. It is divided in five sections:
- General: Shows general stats about the player's campagin like Sheriff's damage, amount of Frontier Bloons popped or total stamina used.
- Exploration: Tracks the overworld exploration progress of the campaign, divided by area. Keeps track of Bananite crystals, loot chests and campfires.
- Fishing: Keeps track of the player's fishing history, and a few stats for each indiviudal kind of fish.
- Quickdraw: Shows Roaming Bloons in the form of a "Most Wanted List" with a post for each Bloon and a few stats about them.

Frontier Legends offers several mini-games which offer rewards such as Bananite and consumable items.
Quick Draw
After encountering a Roaming Bloon and selecting the Fight! option the player is presented with a minigame which consists of timing the press of button labeled Shoot! when a crosshair which moves left and right in a straight line automatically passes over some Bloon-shaped targets, if they succeed they will win some Bananite, Health Potions, Banana Cookies and Old Keys, depending on the strength of the defeated Bloon. A defeat in the minigame will result on the loss of some of the Posse's Stamina and Bananite. There is also a chance to win increased rewards.
Fishing
In selected spots across the world, the Sheriff can throw their fishing rod and play a mini-game to capture some fish that are be exchanged for some Bananite and recover some Stamina based on their rarity. The player can also see their collection of captured items and fish, and the game keeps track of the biggest one by weight. The player can also obtain a special border in their collection if they capture a certain amount of fish of the same type.

Chicken Wrangling
By entering one of the chicken coops in Furlong Fields, Sheriff triggers a mini-game where he tries to round up chickens into the coops as fast as possible. While there are many more, he only has to get 8 of them within the fencing of one. Chickens move away from Sheriff, but do not leave a coop if they are in it. The player's current time, best time, and chickens collected are displayed overhead. The mini-game can be exited at any time by simply leaving Furlong Fields.

Rules of the Frontier
Pre-release

Ninja Kiwi announced Frontier Legends in the update notes of version 47.0, where it was originally named Desperado Legends. It was described as a "highly stylized and replayable" adventure and was planned for release in the middle of the year, in the same year as Runic Legends.[3] As the name suggests, it was planned to release alongside the Desperado, but the DLC was delayed until the end of 2025 to allow more content to be added to Rogue Legends, and it was renamed to Frontier Legends to separate it from the Desperado.[6]
In version 47.0, in addition to the release of Rogue Legends, the menu for Legends had a second page teasing Frontier Legends with an image of a cowboy hat on a cactus. In version 49.0, the image and description were changed to give more details about Frontier Legends.
During November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a series of teaser videos on YouTube and TikTok:
- On 2 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a short teaser video titled "Travel to the Frontier, Enjoy the View, It's perfectly safe!"[7] It features a location named Boulder Falls, a monkey character with Rosalia's Border Collie Pet, Kora following them, and an objective named "Find the monkey in trouble".
- On 5 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi released a second teaser video titled "Enjoy Monkey Meadows!" revealing a location named Monkey Meadows, an interface for the fishing minigame, and an objective named "Talk to Scout".[8]
- On 12 November 2025, a third teaser video titled "Enjoy a late night stroll!" was released showing the monkey strolling around a stylized version of the altar in Encrypted with Geraldo Pack Mule Pet with a barely visible Black Bloon with a white hat moving outside the altar.[9]
- On 16 November 2025, the fourth teaser was released titles "Explore the Windy Peaks!" which features a Monkey exploring a platform at top of some mountains followed by Ice Monkey Snowman Pet, while walking a campfire is visible and after reaching the edge of the platform the player can see the valley below with a windmill and some cabins.[10]
- On 20 November 2025, the fifth teaser titled "Relax on the Beach" showing a Monkey waling in a beach, this time followed by Dad of Quincy, a fishing spot, a group of 3 Red Bloons near a shipwreck and a treasure chest are visible along the path, a different shipwreck similar to the one in Off The Coast is also visible.[11]
- On 24 November 2025 a sixth teaser video titled "Explore our idyllic town!" was released[12], this time with a longer duration where it is revealed that the narrator of the previous videos is an old monkey resembling Dr. Monkey which is the Mayor of some small town naming you the new Sheriff, then the Mayor presents the cornfields which feed the town, then the scene cuts to the town where the Sheriff walks along some Monkeys and some of them open a small text box when approached, then the Sheriff enters to its homestead, which is a menu where the player can change the appearance of the Sherrif and its Pet, check on the members of its Posse and see items in a "Collection" menu. Then, the Sheriff exits and heads towards the Saloon (see details below). Back in the town, the Sheriff walks towards the exits of the town is and one is blocked with some Bloons wearing hats moving in the other side, finally, the Sherrif moves to another exit and upon reaching a loading zone, a pop-up with the title "Frontier Express" asks the player if they wish to move to Boulder Falls (the location of the first teaser).
All previous teaser trailers feature a grainy film texture and a heavily desaturated filter, resembling an old film reel, with western-inspired music in the background. The narrator places suspiciously heavy emphasis on stating that walking in these locations is "perfectly safe".

Also on 12 November 2025, Ninja Kiwi posted on Reddit a preview of the recruiting system while asking for western-themed names[13]; it shows a Saloon with several Tower models and a stylized NPC Monkey. The recruit menu shows the Towers in the Saloon as "Hands to Hire" where they can be recruited by paying a certain amount of Bananite. Additionally, "Ranch Hands" and "Heroes to Hire" menus are also available but were not shown in the teaser. Each Tower has a given name, a bar that resembles some kind of energy and three "Traits" which seem to be passive buffs that that hire possesses which include dealing extra damage, pop specific types of Bloons or setting them on fire. The available towers can be refreshed by waiting 10 minutes or by paying some Bananite.
The Saloon was also shown 24 November 2025 teaser video, this time the names of the Towers available now feature one of the traits that the Monkey has, for example "Molasses Colt" has the Molasses trait and "Feeble Luciano" has the Feeble trait and the number of traits on the monkeys is reduced from 3 to 2 and the refresh time was increased to 30 minutes in comparison to the Reddit teaser.
After the teaser videos, on 24 November 2025, a full trailer video was uploaded titled "Your Guide to Frontier Legends" showing the core game mechanics such as the Homestead, the Saloon and the Campfires, free roam movement and the first footage of a Bloon battle showing Sheriff as a Tower and one of the new Bloon types.[14]
