- Crossbow Monkey using all Ammo does just 5 less damage than Night Vision Sniper while having more choice to pick off separate targets and much better synergy with ATK buffs compared to ammo buffs.
- Crossbow dealing 105 damage allows it to pop Blooming Bloon, enough even if the Blooming was buffed by Zee Jay's passive plus Dark Castle, but not quite enough versus Amelia buff unless given an ATK buff.
- Many ATK buffing sources are excellent with Crossbow Monkey due to how buffable it is with high Ammo for one of the cheapest 3 Ammo options.
- This is one of the best choices with Zee Jay, having a large synergy with his Rad Enhancements, and costing similar Gold to other popular Aggro mirror Monkeys like Robo Monkey.
- Monkey Village is a decent pick and works well for reinforcing Control-style decks.
- A dedicated Super Monkey Fan Club strategy also works well with Crossbow Monkey, and both options are fairly easy to afford for newer players, excluding the need to invest in some Primary Tokens to unlock both reliably.

Development
During Version 6.2 playtests, many ideas for buffs to Crossbow Monkey circulated, but in the end, Ninja Kiwi only increased its ATK from 40 to 50,[1][2] giving the same burst damage as Night Vision Sniper with more flexible targeting and better ATK buff synergy than ammo buffs.[1]
Version 6.4's rework to Crossbow Monkey aims to make it more versatile with ATK buffs, such as Monkey Village and Gwendolin, the latter getting indirectly buffed as she has more ways to fight off early rushes.[3] Now more comparable with Night Vision Sniper but with a little less raw damage (with all 3 Ammo) and far better benefit from ATK buffs.[3]
