For the event in Bloons Monkey City, see Boss Battle (BMC).

Boss Battle is an event in Bloons Card Storm introduced in version 4.0 that unlocks at level 3. In each event, the player can play matches against an AI-controlled Boss Bloon, who functions like an opposing Hero with a predetermined deck that can also be targeted and attacked by the player's Monkeys to deal damage, in addition to taking damage from the player's Bloons leaking. The boss cannot play its own Monkeys, only Bloons and Powers, but has several passive effects in addition to its own abilities and gains more as its health lowers. The player earns points for damaging the boss, and if they defeat it, they earn more points based on the number of turns it took. The player's score determines their placement on a leaderboard and contributes to the Global Score to unlock Global Milestone rewards for all players. Each boss has multiple stages with different abilities and decks, which changes based on the Global Score.

Mechanics

In Boss Battle mode, the opponent is a Boss Bloon that behaves similarly to an AI-controlled Hero. Monkeys can target the boss with their attacks like a Bloon to reduce its health directly, but they cannot apply additional effects to them on hit (such as On Fire or Stunned), and other effects (Hero abilities, Bloons, Powers, etc) do not treat them as Bloons. The boss has its own deck, which consists of only Bloon and Power cards (no Monkeys). Boss decks can have cards that are not available to players, such as Dreadbloon's Wrath of Dread.

The battle is split into multiple phases. When the player reduces the boss's health to zero, it enters the next phase, gains a new health pool, and triggers its Skull Event for that phase. Excess damage dealt by the finishing attack for the phase does not carry over to the next phase.

As a singleplayer mode, the player has unlimited time to wait in the lobby before starting the match, has unlimited time to mulligan their starting hand, and always goes first. The map is predetermined based on the boss and there is no Storm.

Match Effects

Match Effects are additional rules applied to Boss Battle matches. All Boss Battle events have the following rules:

  • Monkeys can attack Boss Heroes directly
  • Boss Heroes are not affected by ability bonuses or effects

Each stage also has one of the following rules, which changes with each event:

  • All Bloons have +1 Delay
  • Boss starts with 100 Shield
  • Both players start with 2 Gold
  • Both players start with an extra card

Skull Events

Skull Events are effects that activate when the boss changes to the next phase. Each event has a different set of Skull Events for each stage.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Does ONLY the final round of kill count for the total scores per stage? What is the actual real formula for kill score? (it seems like turn37 kill phase4 gives 4270 score?)

Score is based on how fast Dreadbloon is killed at each stage. Bonus points are appended to the Boss's total Health of combined phases for beating the Boss faster. Round bonus is independent from the score from beating Health from the Boss.
