Primal Instinct is a type of Artifact in the Rogue Legends DLC for Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 48.0. It increases the attack speed of Primary Monkeys when they are set to Close targeting. The benefit increases with the rarity of the Artifact. The description actually states the attack cooldown reduction rather than the attack speed increase, in contrast with most Artifacts.
This Artifact represents a tradeoff between attack speed an the ability to use more "useful" targeting options like First or Strong, or even Last with Monkeys that like long straights, making it difficult to concentrate damage on high health targets or to catch stray Bloons, so it is recommended to micro their targeting options, have a non-Primary Tower to perform those tasks or to spread more Towers across the map. Tack Shooters without Inferno Ring and top / middle path Ice Monkeys always benefit from this Artifact because their only targeting option is Close (which is not shown in the Tower's menu).
As the campaign progresses, the accumulation of Artifacts makes the targeting option limitation irrelevant and after obtaining Essence Of Dreadbloon or similar Artifacts, this benefit can be extended to other towers, with X-X-2+ Spike Factories being among the prime candidates as they don't mind being stuck on Close targeting.
