Blooncyclopedia:Article size

This article is a set of guidelines concerning the size of articles on Blooncyclopedia. In general, articles should contain at least enough information to be useful, and the longer an article is, the better and more fleshed-out it tends to be. However, articles shouldn't be made longer just for the sake of it; repeating information or using overly pedantic wording makes articles worse, not better.

Short articles

New articles must contain a reasonable amount of information. It's fine to create a short article if there's not much to say about the subject, and it's fine to create articles that are incomplete (woefully complete, even), but they should at least be useful to readers right out of the gate. Creating an article that only has one or two sentences is not okay. (If you really want to start creating a page and want to start with just a sentence or two, create a sandbox page first, then move it to the mainspace once it's in an acceptable state.)

Long articles

Articles that are too long start to affect the performance of this wiki, taking a long time to save and load, especially if they contain a lot of images, complex Lua scripts, or Cargo stores. In general, if an article is long enough that it starts having significant performance issues, it should be split up based on sub-topics. For example, if a big chunk of an article is taken up by a description of a single mechanic or set of mechanics, that section should be split into its own article. The previous article should link to this new article via {{main}} and include a short summary of the subject, as usual. Articles may also be split up by game or series if they are mechanically distinct enough (e.g., Weapon (BSM2) and Weapon (BATTD)).
