Signatures are used to attribute comments on talk pages and the forum to yourself and indicate when the change is made. By default, your signature contains a link to your user page and user talk page

On talk pages and the forum, when adding a topic, your signature and timestamp is automatically appended to the end of your addition. However, in some cases, you will need to add your signature and timestamp by yourself. Adding a signature and timestamp is done by placing ~~~~ at the end of your comment, which is automatically replaced with your signature when you save your changes to the page.

On proposals, your votes should be signed with three tildes (~~~), which creates a signature without a timestamp. Comments on proposals should use four tildes, however.

Customizing your signature

You can change your signature by going to your preferences and changing your signature under "user profile". There is a character limit, but if you are autoconfirmed you can create more complex signatures by:

1. Creating a subpage with your signature at Special:MyPage/sig
2. Setting your signature in your preferences to {{User:Username/sig}} (replace Username with your username).

You can use custom signatures to change the font style and/or color of your signature, add images, or add additional links (such as your contributions). You can upload your own images to use in signatures, but they count towards the limit of 5 personal images per user.

Signature guidelines

1. Your signature must include your username, or an abbreviation/shortening of it so long as it is still recognizable.
2. Your signature must include a link to your user talk page. (You can omit the link to your user page if you don't want one, but your user talk page is mandatory.)
3. Your signature must not be more than 50 pixels tall or 250 pixels wide.
4. Your signature must be on a single line.
5. Your signature cannot contain flashing or moving text.
