Polyphemus is an Intermediate map in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 36.0. It is an island shaped like a flatiron with walls and trees along its left shoreline. It is named after Polyphemus, the one-eyed giant son of Poseidon and Thoosa in Greek mythology and one of the Cyclops described in the Odyssey, and is a continuation of the themes of Lotus Island and Odyssey mode. This map was created to promote the Beast Handler, which was released in the same update.
Layout
Polyphemus features a point-shaped island that is surrounded by water. Bloons come from both the top and the bottom, loop around the eye, and exit at the opposite entrance. There are 8 walls around the track, each removable for $500. The "VI" sign to the right of the eye hints at how the eye closes before every round that ends in 6, or after every round that ends in 5.
Mechanics
Towers placed inside the large eye-shaped pool are provided the following buffs:
10% discount to their base costs and upgrade costs. Unlike Monkey Business and Monkey Commerce, this includes tier 4 and tier 5 upgrades (but not Paragons).
Reduces their attack cooldowns by 15%, effectively increasing their attack speed by ~17.6%.
Gains Camo detection.
At the end of every round that ends in 5 (5, 15, 25, 35, etc.), the eye closes, which disables all towers currently in it and prevents more towers from being placed in it. It does not disable Admiral Brickell's mines or Mega Mines. If a Beast Handler has a water beast inside it and the Beast Handler or Beast Handler network can reach another body of water with its range, the beast will be relocated, otherwise it is also disabled. The eye can be reopened by spending cash, starting at $0 on round 5 and increasing by $500 every 10 rounds (even if the player doesn't pay to reopen it), which restores the towers that were trapped inside it.
Strategy
Polyphemus is average among Intermediate maps in terms of difficulty. Utilize the eye, as despite the cost needed to keep it open, the buffs it grants to towers on it and its position inside the loop make doing so well worth it. Land towers are best placed immediately above and below the eye, as these spots take good advantage of the loop around the eye. With these tips in mind, Polyphemus can be defeated using general strategies listed here.
Basic Deflation strategies
Basic Apopalypse strategies
Basic Half Cash strategies
Basic Alternate Bloons Rounds strategies
Basic Impoppable strategies
Basic CHIMPS strategies
Towers that excel on Polyphemus are shown below.
| Name | Portrait | Reasoning |
|---|---|---|
| Carrier Flagship | Flagship wipes out the mid-game and early late-game with ease, saving up extreme amounts of money while still doing solid damage in the 90s. Its platforms also allow for an Arctic Wind that opens up deep parts of the eye for land towers. Land towers placed on Arctic Wind's platform can receive the eye's buffs, but towers placed on the Carrier Flagship's platforms cannot receive them. If using Flagship, put it (along with most towers) in the eye, pair it with Admiral Brickell, and use the 5-2-0 crosspath, which provides for an easier mid-game with Destroyer, does more overall damage on this map, and grants Flagship partial DDT popping power. | |
| Giant Condor | Condor can drag blimps from one lane to the other, greatly simplifying this map by effectively turning it into single-lane on most rounds. It is also a terrific general support option, being able to grab blimps near the exit to the front and stall rounds very effectively by constantly repelling blimps. |

- Restarting a CHIMPS or Impoppable game no longer prevents the player from reopening the eye on Polyphemus (bug fix)
Polyphemus no longer spawns too many
Pre-game Prep spikes
The Bloons now will do one lap over the eye
- Note: Hard RBS increased from 19.3 to 26.9
- Eye should be working correctly when Removable Cost Rate is set to Free in the Challenge Editor (bug fix)
