Mortar Monkey is a Military Monkey card in Bloons Card Storm. Instead of its attacks being controlled by the player, it automatically attacks a random Bloon on the opponent's side (or Dreadbloon if possible) at the end of the player's turn. If given additional ammo, it will use ammo as many times as it can at the end of a turn.

This section was last updated for: version 5.1
  • The Mortar Monkey is a somewhat cost efficient attacker, dealing 40 damage per turn. However, its shots are completely random and can only attack at the end of a turn.
    • Dart Monkey Twins with both charges has a higher damage-per-Gold ratio, at 50 DPT, and the common Alchemist Monkey does more DPT for the same cost, with only delayed damage as an issue.
  • If dealing with an opposing Mortar, Swarm Red Bloons can make the mortar waste its shots more often.

Update history

Version 0.8 (build 177)

  • Nerf Attack Power reduced ― 45 → 40
  • Added explosion sounds for Mortar Monkey and The Big One when hitting Bloons.
  • Buff No longer fails to attack on turn end if the opponent only controls Camo Bloons (bug fix)
  • Buff Gold cost decreased ― 2 → 1

Strategy

Initially when the game was in its early days, basic Mortar was meant to be a high damage option with its only downside being its randomness.[1] The evolution of the game made Mortar far less relevant with options such as Dart Monkey Twins and Barrel of Monkeys becoming available and serving more raw damage with the option to manually target Bloons.[1] Version 6.4 changed Mortar to become cheaper, as the cheapest Military Monkey that now has a niche as a fodder for War Bonds in Striker decks.[1] Additionally, the Mortar was proposed to have a damage buff, but ultimately only got a cost reduction to give it a new role that no other Military Monkey had at the time.[1]
