Boss Bloons[fn 1] (or simply bosses) are a group of Bloons in the Bloons franchise. They are generally much larger and stronger than regular Bloons, and often have unique abilities. In most games they appear in, Boss Bloons are also treated as MOAB-Class Bloons.
Terminology
[edit | edit source]In Bloons TD 5, the term "boss bloon" is used as an alternative name for MOAB-Class Bloons.[1][2] The term was first used to refer to a separate class of Bloons in the Flash version of Bloons Super Monkey 2.
Mechanics
[edit | edit source]Bloons Supermonkey 2
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons are MOAB-Class Bloons with additional abilities, such as spawning defensive Bloon formations or, in the mobile version, firing blop-like projectiles that inflict debuffs. Boss Bloons only stay on-screen for a limited time; if a boss escapes, the level is considered lost. In the mobile version, some Boss Bloons prevent players from passing through them like Shielded Bloons.

Bloons TD 6
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons are a category of MOAB-Class Bloons with several additional properties. While each boss has mechanics unique to it, all bosses share the following features.
- Immune to insta-killing attacks such as the Bloon Master Alchemist's shrink potions and the Pirate Lord's ability.
- Immune to all slowing, stunning, and knockback effects such as from MOAB Glue, Maim MOAB, and MOAB Domination.
- Currently the only exceptions are the Eclipse of Fimbulwinter ability from Herald of Everfrost, which can reduce their speed 5% while active (25s) and will also freeze them, halving their speed for 5s, and Time Stop, which reduces their speed to 30%.
- Immune to percentage based damage such as Ezili's MOAB Hex ability
- Causes a defeat if leaked, even while Legend of the Night's black hole is active, no matter how many lives are acquired.
- Vulnerable to additional damage from attacks with bonus Boss damage, notably Paragons.
- Affected by Boss Health and Boss Speed modifiers
Each boss has two versions, Normal and Elite, with the Elite boss being much stronger than the Normal version. Every boss has several points in their health bar equally divided and labelled by skulls, which when reached trigger certain behaviors depending on the boss.
Bloons Pop!
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons are positioned bottom of the puzzle. They spawn formations of Bloons and other puzzle elements to defend themselves. If frozen, glued, or stunned, they spawn weaker formations.
As there is no overarching MOAB class in Bloons Pop!, Boss Bloons do not share a weakness to "MOAB damage" with the MOAB. They take increased or reduced damage from certain Monkeys and Powerups, and take extra damage when the Like a Boss Party Bonus is applied, but they do not take extra damage from the MOAB Specialist Party Bonus.
Bloons Card Storm
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons function similarly to AI-controlled Heroes, having a Bloontonium meter and three abilities, except they can also be targeted and attacked by Monkeys in the same way as regular Bloons.[3] They are not treated as Large Bloons, and cannot take status effects such as On Fire.
Bloons Blitz
[edit | edit source]Each level has two Boss Bloon fights (except the first level, which only has one). The boss traps the player in a small arena and the player must destroy it to progress. They have multiple health bars (represented by the number of skulls) and attack patterns that involve moving around and summoning Bloons. The second boss of a level is always different from the first, and is a harder version with more health bars and stronger Bloon spawns.
Encountering

Boss Bloons are encountered in certain levels. In the Flash version, the boss always appears at the end of the final stage of a zone, and the player must achieve at least a bronze trophy in order to face the boss, otherwise the stage ends prematurely in a game over. In the mobile version, bosses instead appear in the final levels of chapters and earning a medal is not required to encounter them, although certain boss levels require a number of gold medals to be obtained before they can be played.

[edit | edit source]Boss Bloon Event
[edit | edit source]A weekly event where the players can fight a Boss Bloon in a specific map, which can feature Hero or Tower restrictions and challenge modifiers in order to win prizes such as Monkey Money, Insta Monkeys, Powers and Medals. The players are given 39 rounds to prepare their defenses before the Boss arrives in Round 40 and, if defeated, it will appear again with greater strength (known as Tiers) in Rounds 60, 80, 100 and 120. Beating the Tier 5 boss grants Victory to the player but letting the boss reach the exit or failing to defeat it in 20 rounds will result on Defeat. Additional prizes can be earned if the player chooses to compete in Ranked Mode which uses one of three scoring types for the leaderboards: Fastest Time, Least Cash or Least Tiers. Defeating a Normal version of the Boss is needed before the players can fight the Elite version.
Boss Challenge
[edit | edit source]A similar mode to the Boss Bloon Event, but unlike it, this is always available to the players. In this game mode, the Boss, difficulty (Normal/Elite), and the Map can be freely chosen and all Heroes and Towers can be used and no challenge modifiers are applied (game mode is always set to Medium). By enabling Battle Mode (which has the same ruleset as the Ranked Mode in Events) the player can also enable one of the three score types and the game will keep track of the best score or a combination of score type, boss and map.
If there is a Boss Bloon Event ongoing, the featured boss cannot be selected on Boss Challenge mode.
Contested Territory
[edit | edit source]Certain tiles on Contested Territory will have a Boss Bloon hovering over it and to capture it the players must defeat the featured Boss in a similar way to a Boss Event / Challenge, but only Tier 1 or 2 Normal bosses will appear. The tile will have a restricted set of Heroes or Towers available like any other tile. The scoring type of a tile with a Boss Bloon is always set to Fastest Time and will degrade over time. The tiles where a Boss Bloon appears will always be Banner Tiles or Relic Tiles.
Boss Rush
[edit | edit source]Boss Rush is a Team event which alternates with Contested Territory. In this mode players will face 5 Boss Bloons, each one on a specific map in the span of a few days. Each boss will be given a health bar and the team must deplete it to earn prizes for the Team and its members before proceeding to the next Boss. To damage the Boss, players will fight it in a similar way to the Phayze One Quest. The boss will enter to the screen immediately after starting and the players must do as much damage to it as possible. The boss starts with very low health (comparable to a MOAB) and every time it reaches zero the player will also be granted a point (commonly known as a pop by the community), also Boss will restore all its health and increase it by a percentage of its current maximum. The game has no round limit and ends when all lives are lost or if the boss reaches the exit of the map, then the health bar of the boss will be reduced by the amount of pops that the player achieved during the game.
Rogue Legends
[edit | edit source]Boss Bloons appear in the Mini-Boss and Final Boss tiles. The Mini-Boss plays similarly to Boss Rush and can give Artifact rewards depending on the amount of "pops" obtained. The Final Boss is played on Boss Challenge mode at the end of a stage.
Frontier Legends
[edit | edit source]Bosses are encountered in specific Bloon Encounters, Diamondback serves as the the main antagonist and Final Boss of the DLC. Other Boss Bloons can be challenged in optional Bloon Encounters which reward a high amount of Bananite.

Bloons Card Storm
[edit | edit source]Boss Battles are events in which the player attempts to deal as much damage to the Boss Bloon as possible. The player's best score on each day counts towards a leaderboard, which grants rewards at the end of the event depending on the player's placement, and a global progression track, which grants rewards depending on the total score of all players. Some events have banned cards.[3]
