Camo detection is a mechanic in the Bloons TD series and Bloons Pop!, first appearing in Bloons TD 4. In the Bloons TD series, it is a property of an attack that determines whether or not it can target and/or hit Camo Bloons. In Bloons Pop!, it determines whether or not Camo Bloons are always visible to a Monkey while in play.
Bloons TD series
Camo detection determines whether or not an attack can target Camo Bloons. If an attack lacks Camo detection and requires a target in order to fire, it will not aim and/or shoot at Camo Bloons within its targeting range. While towers that possess Camo detection are usually also capable of dealing damage to Camo Bloons, the ability to target Camo Bloons with an attack and the ability for their projectiles to hit Camo Bloons are separate properties. It is possible for a tower to have one but not the other.
- Some attacks can hit Camo Bloons without having Camo detection. For example, in Bloons TD 6 and Bloons TD Battles 2, the Spike Factory's spikes can hit Camo Bloons, but the attack that launches its spikes is not treated as having Camo detection. This means Monkey Subs with Advanced Intel can't target Camo Bloons in its radius, and Gerry's Fire in BTD6 can't target or hit Camo Bloons if used on it. In Bloons TD 4, all attacks that lack Camo detection behave this way.
- Some attacks may target Camo Bloons but be unable to hit them with their projectiles. Unlike the former case, this seems to be considered unintended behavior. For example, in version 22.0 of BTD6, Dartling Gunners possessed Camo detection and allowed Monkey Subs with Advanced Intel to target Camo Bloons inside their small display range, even though the Dartling Gunner's projectiles could not hit Camo without Advanced Targeting, which was "fixed" in version 23.0 by removing its Camo detection. This behavior can still be seen in the Projectile-Go-Round Quest in BTD6, where attacks that possess Camo detection can fire projectiles from towers that cannot hit Camo Bloons; these attacks do not allow these projectiles to hit Camo Bloons.
List of towers with Camo detection
All attacks in this game can hit Camo Bloons. This only lists towers that can target Camo Bloons without being buffed by Crow's Nest, Spy Plane, or Sonar Beacon. The Monkey Ace, Mortar Tower, Dartling Gun, and Spike Factory are not listed because their attacks do not target Bloons, even though they can still hit Camo Bloons.
