Introduced	Launch

The Monkey Buccaneer is a Military tower in Bloons TD 6. It attacks by firing heavy darts from its cannons, popping up to 4 Bloons per dart. It normally only fires from one of its cannons at a time, but if another Bloon is in the line of fire of the other side's cannon whenever it's firing, it will fire from both cannons at the same time. It cannot damage Lead Bloons, frozen Bloons, or Camo Bloons without upgrades. It can be upgraded to shoot faster and launch attack planes, use cannons and hook in MOAB-class Bloons, or generate cash.

Mechanics

The Monkey Buccaneer primarily aims and fires from its left cannon. Its basic attack fires a dart at a rate of once per second, which has 4 pierce and deals 1 sharp-type damage. When its left cannon fires, if a targetable Bloon is within range of a 90° cone centered on the right cannon, it also fires from its right cannon at the same time. The second cannon is considered a separate attack, so when it fires from both cannons, it consumes twice as many Acidic Mixture Dip and Berserker Brew charges.

Path 1

Faster Shooting

Tier 1 — 150 XP to unlock

All weapons on board shoot faster.

This upgrade decreases the attack cooldown of the Monkey Buccaneer's attacks by 25%, increasing its attack speed by ~33.33%. Without additional upgrades, the dart attack has a cooldown of 0.75 seconds.

Double Shot

Tier 2 — 700 XP to unlock

Increases ship weapons fired.

This upgrade increases the number of darts fired by each cannon from 1 to 2, firing both shots in parallel. If Grape Shot is purchased, Double Shot also grants +1 grape per attack.

Double Shot does not increase the number of cannonballs fired by Cannon Ship or its subsequent upgrades, only granting +1 grape, because these upgrades remove the Monkey Buccaneer's dart attack.

Destroyer

Tier 3 — 3,000 XP to unlock

Attacks super duper fast!

This upgrade reduces the cooldown of both its main attack and (if crosspathed with path 2) Grape Shot by 80%, effectively quintupling its attack speed for both attacks. Without additional upgrades, the cooldown of each shot is 0.15 seconds for the twin darts and 0.2025 seconds for the grapes.

Aircraft Carrier

Tier 4 — 12,500 XP to unlock

Launches waves of fighter planes that strafe their targets and fire missiles at MOAB class Bloons.

This upgrade grants the Monkey Buccaneer sub-towers which are aircraft visually resembling smaller Monkey Aces, and attack similarly to Fighter Planes. Aircraft Carriers can deploy up to three aircraft at a time, with a cooldown of 1.25 seconds between each deployment. The main Destroyer attacks remained unchanged, except 4-2-0, with burning damage increased from 2 to 4.

Carrier Flagship

Tier 5 — 37,000 XP to unlock

Does extra damage. Can place other Monkeys on the upper decks of the ship and increases attack speed of all water based Monkeys and Monkey Aces.

This upgrade improves all weapons of the Aircraft Carrier's aircraft. Carrier Flagship provides a buff to all water towers and Monkey Aces on screen, including itself, which reduces their attack cooldown by 20%, or a 25% attack speed increase. Carrier Flagship gains two platforms on its main tower which towers may be placed onto.

If Hot Shot is purchased, Carrier Flagship increases the damage of its damage-over-time effect from 4 to 9.

Path 2

Grape Shot

Tier 1 — 200 XP to unlock

Adds a spray of 5 sharpened grapes to the ship.

This upgrade grants the Monkey Buccaneer an additional attack which fires 5 grapes (6 with Big Bunch) at a time, in a 90° spread. Grapes deal 1 Sharp-type damage (cannot damage Lead or Frozen Bloons), have 1 pierce (2 with Naval Upgrades), and have an attack cooldown of 1.35 seconds. Like Monkey Buccaneer's main dart attack, grapes may be fired from both sides at the same time if there are targets on both sides of it.

The attack has several crosspathing benefits:

• Faster Shooting increases grape fire rate by +33%
• Double Shot adds +1 grape
• Destroyer increases grape fire rate by +400%
• Aircraft Carrier changes the radial attack from its planes to front-shooting bursts of grapes
• Carrier Flagship improves the Ceramic damage and pierce of the plane's fired grapes
• Long Range increases grape projectile speed by +25% and increases grape pierce by +1
• Crow's Nest allows grapes to hit Camo Bloons
• Favored Trades increases grape fire rate by +80%
• Trade Empire increases grape damage to 2 and grants bonus MOAB and ceramic damage

Hot Shot

Tier 2 — 650 XP to unlock

Burning hot grape shot can pop Lead Bloons and set Bloons on fire.

This upgrade sets its grapes on fire, changing the grapes to deal Fire-type damage instead of Sharp, letting them pop Lead and Frozen Bloons but not Purple Bloons. Additionally, the grapes gain a damage-over-time effect that ticks every 1.5 seconds, dealing 2 damage and lasting 3.1 seconds. It can set Purple Bloons in this damage-over-time, but will not damage them.

Tier 4 and above crosspaths have extra DoT damage from Hot Shot.

• Aircraft Carrier grapes from the main ship deal 4 damage per tick, remaining at one tick every 1.5 seconds for 3.1 seconds. The radial volleys from the aircraft become tightly packed burning grapes that also burn Bloons, dealing 4 damage per tick per 0.5 seconds for 3.1 seconds.
• Carrier Flagship increases damage per tick of both burning effects from 4 to 9.
• Favored Trades burn effect does 4 damage per tick, increased to 9 with Trade Empire.

Cannon Ship

Tier 3 — 2,700 XP to unlock

Adds a powerful cannon that shoots out powerful bombs.

This upgrade replaces its dart attack with bombs that explode on contact, dealing damage in an area and spawning 8 sharp frags that fly in all directions, and it increases the damage of its Grape Shot from 1 to 3. The bomb attack has a cooldown of 1.3 seconds and its explosion does 2 Explosion-type damage onto up to 20 Bloons (30 with Long Range), with a radius of 40. Its frags can each pop 1 Bloon (2 with Long Range), their pierce and damage cannot be buffed, and do not hit the same Bloon that the cannonball collided onto.

Monkey Pirates

Tier 4 — 13,000 XP to unlock

Adds 2 cannons to the ship and attacks do more damage. MOAB Takedown Ability: harpoons a MOAB class Bloon and brings it down.

With this upgrade, the Monkey Buccaneer shoots three bombs at a time instead of one, its bombs deal 3 damage instead of 2 and deal +5 damage to MOAB-Class Bloons, and its grapes deal 4 damage instead of 3 and deal +2 damage to Ceramic Bloons. This upgrade unlocks the MOAB Takedown Activated Ability, which destroys one MOAB, BFB, or visible DDT, prioritizing the strongest Bloon. It has a cooldown of 45 seconds (40 seconds with Faster Takedowns).

Pirate Lord

Tier 5 — 35,000 XP to unlock

Greatly improved power and can shoot many grappling hooks at once, plundering extra cash from each MOAB-class Bloon taken down.

This upgrade decreases the attack cooldown of all attacks by 35%, increasing the Monkey Buccaneer's attack speed by ~53.8%. The grapes deal 8 damage and deal +4 Ceramic damage (instead of 4 and +2), and deal 9 damage per tick instead of 2. Cannonballs deal +8 MOAB-class damage instead of +5, and their fragments deal 6 damage and +3 MOAB-class damage.

This upgrade grants the MOAB Takedown ability 6 hooks in total, and the capability of hooking ZOMGs at the cost of 3 hooks each. The ability's cooldown is decreased from 45 seconds to 30 seconds (25 seconds with Faster Takedowns), and hooked Bloons grant +100% increased pop income.

Path 3

Long Range

Tier 1 — 150 XP to unlock

Much longer range, and projectiles fly faster and pierce more.

This upgrade increases the Monkey Buccaneer's range by ~18.3% (absolute range increased from 60 to 71), increases the pierce of its darts by 2, and increases projectile speed of all its attacks by 25%.

With crosspaths, the pierce of each attack is improved:

• Aircraft Carrier: Increases the pierce of the planes' radial and forward-firing darts by 2
• Grape Shot: Increases the pierce of the grapes by 1
• Cannon Ship: Increases the pierce of the bombs' explosions by 10 and the frags by 1.

Crow's Nest

Tier 2 — 600 XP to unlock

Allows the ship to hit Camo Bloons.

The Monkey Buccaneer gains Camo detection and the Camo Prioritization targeting option.

Merchantman

Tier 3 — 3,100 XP to unlock

Generates cash each round automatically, and deals more damage when over 10,000 saved cash.

This upgrade generates $200 at the end of each round automatically ($220 with Trade Agreements), which can be improved with Central Market (+10%, up to +100%) and Trade Empire. Additionally, the Merchantman's base damage is increased by ×2 if the player's cash is at least $10,000; in Co-op, only the owner's cash determines the damage buff of the Merchantman.

If buffed by Trade Empire, it gains +$10 cash production per Merchantman (stacking up to 20 times in total), +1 damage, +1 Ceramic damage, and +1 MOAB damage to all attacks. Trade Empire prioritizes any Favored Trades on screen, followed by Merchantmen.

Favored Trades

Tier 4 — 10,000 XP to unlock

Attacks faster and deals more damage when over 50,000 saved cash. Generates lots of money per round. Monkeys in radius have increased sell value.

This upgrade reduces the attack cooldown of the Monkey Buccaneer's attacks, increases the amount of cash generated from $200 to $500 per round ($520 with Trade Agreements), and provides a buff to itself and towers within its range which increases their sell value by 4% stacking up to 3 times for a maximum of 12% (capped at maximum of 95% of their cost). Additionally, its damage is increased by ×2 if the player's cash is $10,000–$49,999, or ×3 at $50,000 or more; in Co-op, only the owner's cash determines the damage buff of the Favored Trades.

If buffed by Trade Empire, it gains +$20 cash production per Favored Trades (stacking up to 20 times in total), +1 damage, +1 Ceramic damage, and +1 MOAB damage to all attacks. Favored Trades are prioritized by Trade Empire's buffs before any Merchantmen.

Darts have a cooldown of 0.5 seconds. If given Grape Shot, the attack cooldown for the grapes are reduced from 1.3 to 0.75 seconds. Hot Shot's burn damage is improved from 2 to 4.

Trade Empire

Tier 5 — 40,000 XP to unlock

Generates more cash per round. Grants up to 20 Merchantmen bonus damage and an income bonus that increases with every Merchantman owned up to 20 times.

This upgrade increases the cash generated by Monkey Buccaneer from $500 to $800 ($820 with Trade Agreements), and grants a Trade Empire buff to up to 20 other Merchantmen or Favored Trades. This buff increases the cash generation of affected Monkey Buccaneers by an amount which scales based on the number of affected Monkey Buccaneers. The buff also grants +1 damage, +1 Ceramic damage, and +1 MOAB-Class damage to all attacks of affected towers.

Trade Empire grants the Monkey Buccaneer itself +1 damage, +1 Ceramic damage, and +1 MOAB-Class damage to all attacks. Additionally, Hot Shot improves burn damage of its own grapes from 4 to 9. Like the previous tiers, it also gains a damage bonus depending on the amount of cash on hand, ×2 at $10,000–$49,999, or ×3 at $50,000 or more.

Paragon

Navarch of the Seas

Tier 6 — 750,000 XP to unlock

The greatest thing ever to float on water.

Navarch of the Seas has six triple-barreled turrets that independently attack Bloons with volleys of exploding cannonballs and grapes, 3 fighter plane sub-towers that hunt Bloons with a rapid frontal gun and volleys of anti-MOAB missiles, and 10 grappling hooks that automatically grab and reel in MOAB-Class Bloons. It also has an Activated Ability that grapples and instantly destroys the strongest MOAB-Class Bloon on the screen, including BADs.

In addition to offense, it provides a number of supportive benefits, including deployable land platforms on top of itself, income generation at the end of a round, increased sell value of towers in range, attack cooldown reductions for all other water towers and Monkey Aces, and damage and income buffs for up to 40 Merchantmen or Favored Trades.

Being placeable only on water, the Monkey Buccaneer tends to be more limited in placement options than other DPS towers, but it excels on maps where the water allows it to consistently shoot from both sides at the same time (such as #Ouch and Quad). It has good range and pierce for the base cost and a potent low-tier upgrade in Grape Shot. Admiral Brickell grants it powerful buffs and helps shore up its weakness to DDTs.

• Path 1's Destroyer is an early-midgame option that helps a lot against early MOABs when crosspathed with Grape Shot and synergizes very well with Berserker Brew. Aircraft Carrier and Carrier Flagship's planes are powerful but inconsistent, generally performing best on maps with only one active path at a time (such as Muddy Puddles), and Flagship's platforms and water tower buffs have niches in modes like Freeplay and Boss Bloon Events.
• Path 2 is an earlygame group-popping option with Grape Shot and Cannon Ship. Monkey Pirates is an alternative to Destroyer that is less effective at single targets, but makes up for it with its ability to delete smaller blimps. Pirate Lord excels at removing a lot of blimp RBE from late-game rounds and also generates some cash.
• Path 3 is an income option on top of earlygame damage output. Merchantman and Favored Trades can combine with Trade Empire to serve as an alternative to Banana Farm setups on water-dominated maps, as well as building up a lot of Paragon power for Navarch of the Seas. Favored Trades and Trade Empire do increase damage output too, but not enough for it to be useful in CHIMPS.
