 Pop and Awe Ability: rains explosions over the whole screen, damaging and stunning all bloons. Main attack gains bonus damage to stunned Bloons. All Artillery Batteries do more damage to BADs.

Pop and Awe is the Mortar Monkey's path 2 tier 5 upgrade in Bloons TD Battles 2. This upgrade replaces Artillery Battery's Bombardment ability with the Pop and Awe ability, which stuns all Bloons and blimps (excluding BADs) for 1 second, immediately does 20 damage and persistently does 20 damage per second to everything on the screen, and lasts for 10 seconds, with 45 seconds cooldown. The ability's rate can be improved with external buffs and is allowed to re-stun Bloons. Upgrading an activated Artillery Battery into Pop and Awe will transfer the 4× speed buff but consider the Pop and Awe ability under cooldown.
Additionally, each shot has improved damage bonuses (Ceramic: +12, MOAB-Class: +6, BAD: +6, Lead Bloon: +3, stunned: +10), and all other friendly Artillery Batteries gain +3 BAD damage.

Mortar Monkey has not really been affected by any recent nerfs, still remaining very strong and only seeing a drop in usage due to Etienne offering an exciting alternative. Therefore we think that it’s justified to make some significant nerfs to Mortar’s early game, as it’s been a top tier tower for quite a few updates now.

The randomness of the Mortar has never been popular and the xx1 upgrade has often felt like a tax to remove RNG than an upgrade in its own right. The new Dynamic Targeting upgrade will hopefully give interesting crosspath options to the other upgrades, allowing the Mortar to easily focus fire on strong MOABs or maximise the impact of stunning by automatically aiming for the densest cluster of bloons. Manual targeting will likely still remain the most consistent option for effects like Signal Flare and Burny Stuff that just want to hit every bloon once.
