Tower Engineer Monkey — Path 1 — Tier 4
Cost $3,250

Sentry Expert is the Engineer Monkey's path 1 tier 4 upgrade in Bloons TD Battles 2. It produces four different types of Sentries that each have a different attack. It can spawn Crushing Sentries, Boom Sentries, Cold Sentries, and Energy Sentries, and it spawns them in that order by default, but it can prioritize or skip Sentries depending on what Bloons are currently on-screen.

When first upgraded to Sentry Expert, it instantly spawns four of these Sentries around its range.

Strategy

This section was last updated for: version 4.13

Sentry Expert is effective at acting reactively against Bloon rushes and early MOAB rushes, making it stand out between rounds 11-19. The specialized sentries are often enough to take down most rushes after the initial burst of sentry production, and Sentry Expert stabilizes with a full army of normally produced sentries by the end of the burst. However, against round 11, it can be a significant money investment for Engineer-based defenses to buy Sentry Expert for that round, due to needing to buy it and camo detection to compensate for the latter weakness.

4-0-1 and 4-0-2 are generally preferred for the pierce bonus, as these upgrades allow the Sentry Expert to take down rushes more reliably.

  • Nerf Sentries can no longer stun Ceramics (bug fix)
“
Recently, we altered Overclock so that buffing a parent tower will also buff all of its child towers (eg sentries). Additionally, in this update we’re fixing a bug with this, meaning that newly spawned child towers will now correctly inherit the buff. With these changes, it makes Sentry Champion incredibly strong but only when buffed up a lot by the likes of Homeland Defense and Overclock. We have decided to change Engineer so that the spawn rate of its sentries can no longer be affected by attack rate buffs, but we have also greatly increased Sentry Champion’s regular damage so that it’s much stronger on its own now.

”
  • Nerf Sentry: no longer affected by attack speed buffs
“
The Engineer has been languishing at the bottom of the “most used towers” list for a while. This change makes the sentry expert more useful immediately since it no longer needs to wait to generate its special sentry towers, and also opens up some interesting micro opportunities.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Now immediately spawns 6 Sentries when the upgrade is purchased
“
We want Sentry Expert to have a big impact the moment you purchase it so feel it's important to keep the bonus sentries it spawns. 6 bonus sentries were proving to be too much extra damage however so we are dialing it back to 4 to make it a more measured response to a rush.
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Sentries spawned upon upgrading reduced ― 6 → 4
“
Sentry Expert is proving too cost-effective as a reactive response to a rush.
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $2,800 → $3,250
