Necromancer is an effective cleanup option, however it should not be relied against large groups. Its pierce is consistent and has decent damage, making it suitable at chipping a few strong Bloons (even a single non-Fortified MOAB) but not enough for reliable single-target. Despite popping Purples, undead Bloons can still be overrun because its other attacks can't pop them; layering other Grouped rushes (e.g. Grouped Whites) behind is an effective hinderance. Because of Shimmer and innate camo detection, it and nearby towers have no Camo troubles.

It's necessary to prepare Necromancer in advance and keeping it, making it less suitable, but not bad, for non-passive gameplay with Wizard strategies. Newer players should appreciate it as a safeguard. Competitive players should keep a Necro around and only sell it as a last resort, such as intense mid-game micromanagement. Like with most Wizard strategies, Necromancer works best in Tack-Wizard loadouts.

Crosspathing matters with Necromancer. 0-0-4 is sufficient, with 0-1-4 preferred in general gameplay, and 0-2-4 only mattering to deter non-Purple rushes and feed graveyard. 1-0-4 matters on maps that interweave, such as Garden, to prevent unreliable spawning directions.

Tower Wizard Monkey — Path 3 — Tier 4
Cost $2,800

Necromancer is the Wizard Monkey's path 3 tier 4 upgrade in Bloons TD Battles 2. The Wizard Monkey can summon undead Bloons on the track, which travel in reverse direction and damage Bloons they touch. Popped Bloons within 70 fixed range are collected in its graveyard, up to 450 units. Its graveyard counter is visible when the tower is selected.

Each undead Bloon summoning attack costs up to 18 units per attack, and distributes pierce equally among 1–5 undead Bloons. After round 30, each pop counts as 7–13 units. Undead Bloons deal 2 damage and damage all Bloon types. Wizard Monkey gains damage on all attacks except Wall of Fire for every 200 units present in the graveyard.

With Guided Magic, the Wizard gains new targeting option that alters the location where the Undead Bloons are deployed, defaulting to the furthest region of the path for sent Bloons. Once purchased, this option cannot be untoggled.

Necromancer is an effective cleanup option, but should not be relied against large groups. Its pierce is consistent and has decent damage, being suitable for chipping a few strong Bloons (even a single non-Fortified MOAB) but not enough for reliable single-target.

For newer players, it should be treated as a safeguard. Competitive players should keep a Necro around and only sell it as a last resort, such as intense mid-game micromanagement. Like with most Wizard strategies, Necromancer works best in two-tower combos that don't have a sufficient group-popper, such as Tack-Wizard.

Crosspathing matters with Necromancer. 0-0-4 is sufficient, with 0-1-4 preferred in general gameplay, and 0-2-4 only mattering to deter non-Purple rushes and to feed graveyard. 1-0-4 matters on maps with interweaving lanes, such as Garden, to prevent unreliable spawning directions.

  • Buff Magic bolt: pierce increased ― 7 → 8
Wizard seems to be in a fairly decent spot in the meta, however we want to give it a little bump to encourage its usage. [...] a small price buff to Necromancer for slightly cheaper purple popping power.
— Update notes
  • Buff Upgrade cost reduced ― $2,800 → $2,600
We still feel that Wizard Monkey could do with some minor improvements, with [...] some added crosspathing changes that make sense.
— Update notes
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $100 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
0-1-4
  • Buff Fireball: pierce increased by 7
The randomness made Necromancer very unreliable and inconsistent - sometimes it’d wipe out rushes easily, other times it’d let the rush by. The community has expressed their issues with this and so we have changed it to limit the randomness.
— Update notes
  • Neutral If graveyard count is above 18, then 18 pops will consistently be deducted from the graveyard count every second
The recent bug fixes to Necromancer and Prince of Darkness have made it a bit more efficient than it needs to be so we are increasing the costs to reflect its new effectiveness.
— Update notes
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $2,600 → $2,800
The wizard monkey has been at the front of the pickrates for a while, we are toning back its pierce to make it a bit less reliable early game to combat this
— Update notes
  • Nerf Overall cost increased by $50 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
  • Nerf Bolt: Pierce bonus reduced ― +5 → +3
    • Note: Pierce reduced from 8 to 6 at base
0-1-4, 0-2-4
  • Nerf Fireball: Pierce bonus reduced ― +7 → +5
    • Note: Pierce reduced from 22 to 20
