The Wizard Monkey is a Magic tower in Bloons TD 6. It attacks by casting small magic bolts that can pop frozen Bloons, but cannot pop Purple Bloons or Lead Bloons. Each bolt does 1 damage and has 3 pierce. The Wizard has 40 range and attacks every 1.1 seconds.

It can be upgraded to greatly increase the power of the magic bolt, add a vast array of fire attacks, or use dark magic to reveal camo Bloons and summon undead Bloons.

Upgrades

[edit | edit source]

Path 1

Guided Magic
Tier 1 — 110 XP to unlock
Icon of Guided Magic
Magic shots last longer and seek out the Bloons, even behind cover.
$150 — Easy
$175 — Medium
$190 — Hard
$210 — Impoppable
This upgrade doubles the lifespan of the Wizard Monkey's projectiles and allows them to seek Bloons over a short distance and ignore line of sight blockers. It also provides several benefits as a crosspath:
Arcane Blast
Tier 2 — 600 XP to unlock
Icon of Arcane Blast
Bigger, more powerful magic blasts pop through 2 layers of Bloon.
$385 — Easy
$450 — Medium
$485 — Hard
$540 — Impoppable
This upgrade increases the damage of its main attack's projectiles from 1 to 2 and their projectile size by 50%. Crosspathing with Fireball increases the damage of the fireballs' explosions by 1.
Arcane Mastery
Tier 3 — 2,300 XP to unlock
Icon of Arcane Mastery
Faster attacks with increased range, damage, and popping power.
$1,235 — Easy
$1,450 — Medium
$1,565 — Hard
$1,740 — Impoppable
This upgrade increases the Wizard Monkey's range by 50%, halves the cooldown of its main attack (effectively doubling its attack speed), increases its pierce by 4, increases its damage by 1, and increases its projectile lifespan by 75%.

With the Fireball upgrade, the lifespan of its fireballs is increased by 75% and the pierce of their explosions from 15 to 19.

Arcane Spike
Tier 4 — 11,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Arcane Spike
Faster firing magic does huge damage to most Bloon types, especially to MOABs.
$8,500 — Easy
$10,000 — Medium
$10,800 — Hard
$12,000 — Impoppable
This upgrade doubles the attack speed of Wizard Monkey's main attack, and increases its damage from 3 to 6, with +10 additional MOAB-Class damage (or +11 with Arcane Impale Arcane Impale). With Arcane Impale Arcane Impale, this upgrade grants +1 Ceramic damage. This upgrade allows the main attack to damage Lead Bloons, but not Purple Bloons.

Additionally, when crosspathed with the middle path this upgrade grants +6 bonus MOAB damage to Fireballs and +2 MOAB damage to Wall of Fire. Like Arcane Mastery, Arcane Spike's fireballs have 19 pierce.

Archmage
Tier 5 — 35,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Archmage
A true master of magical wizardry. Attacks faster and does more damage to MOAB-class Bloons.
$27,200 — Easy
$32,000 — Medium
$34,560 — Hard
$38,400 — Impoppable
This upgrade improves all of the Wizard Monkey's attacks, especially its main bolt, and grants the signature attacks of Dragon's Breath and Shimmer:

Crosspathing with Fireball and Wall of Fire grants the following benefits:

  • Fireball — increases its projectile count from 1 to 3, increasing its damage from 2 to 9 with +24 MOAB-Class damage, increasing its pierce from 19 to 23. Its improved attack cooldown is 1.1 seconds.
  • Wall of Fire — increases Wall of Fire's MOAB-Class damage from +2 to +6, and deploys Wall of Fires twice as fast. Its improved attack cooldown is 3.25 seconds.

Path 2

Fireball
Tier 1 — 130 XP to unlock
Icon of Fireball
Every few seconds casts an explosive fireball spell.
$255 — Easy
$300 — Medium
$325 — Hard
$360 — Impoppable
This upgrade adds a secondary attack that shoots an exploding fireball projectile. Unlike other explosives, both the fireball itself and the explosion deal damage: the fireball deals 1 fire damage to one Bloon, while the explosion deals 1 explosion damage to up to 15 Bloons, meaning the initial Bloon the fireball hits takes additional damage. Because the fireball has the fire damage type, it will not explode on contact with Purple Bloons.
Wall of Fire
Tier 2 — 700 XP to unlock
Icon of Wall of Fire
Creates a super hot wall of fire across the track to roast the Bloons as they pass.
$680 — Easy
$800 — Medium
$865 — Hard
$960 — Impoppable
This upgrade grants a new attack that periodically deploys a wall of fire projectile onto the closest part of the track. The wall of fire deals 1 damage every 0.15 seconds to up to 10 Bloons inside it; its pierce refreshes every 0.15 seconds instead of disappearing when it runs out. The wall of fire is deployed every 6.5 seconds and lasts for 4.5 seconds or until it touches a Purple Bloon. This attack has an initial cooldown of 0.5 seconds.
Dragon's Breath
Tier 3 — 2,600 XP to unlock
Icon of Dragon's Breath
Spews endless flames at nearby Bloons and enhances Fireball and Wall of Fire.
$2,805 — Easy
$3,300 — Medium
$3,565 — Hard
$3,960 — Impoppable
In addition to improved Fireballs and Walls of Fire, the Wizard gains a flame attack that does 2 Fire damage with 3 pierce, with an attack cooldown of 0.135 seconds. Flames apply a burn damage-over-time effect that deals 1 damage every 1.5 seconds, and lasts for 3.1 seconds. With Flame Jet Flame Jet, projectile speed is increased by 50%.

The fireball attack now produces 3 fireballs per shot instead of 1, spread in a 60° angle. Its explosions deal 3 damage and have a larger radius, but doesn't affect the damage of the initial hit. The wall of fire attack has its cooldown reduced from 6.5 to 4.5 seconds, with blazes that have 20 pierce (instead of 10), and its tick rate and pierce refresh interval are both reduced from 0.15 to 0.1 seconds.

Summon Phoenix
Tier 4 — 13,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Summon Phoenix
Summon Phoenix ability: Powerful phoenix wreaks Bloon havoc for 20 seconds.
$5,100 — Easy
$6,000 — Medium
$6,480 — Hard
$7,200 — Impoppable
The Wizard Monkey gains a Summon Phoenix ability which summons a phoenix sub-tower for 20 seconds. The phoenix flies in a circle in the center of the screen, and attacks Bloons with flames that deal 5 Fire-type damage (cannot pop Purple Bloons), have 8 pierce, and an attack cooldown of 0.1 seconds. The phoenix has infinite range and ignores line-of-sight blockers. This ability has a cooldown of 45 seconds and an initial cooldown of 15 seconds.

This upgrade also improves the Wizard's dragon's breath attack, firing two flames per shot instead of one, with a 10° spread.

Wizard Lord Phoenix
Tier 5 — 35,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Wizard Lord Phoenix
Wizard Lord becomes a master of the flame, turning into a super powerful Lava Phoenix for a short time.
$42,500 — Easy
$50,000 — Medium
$54,000 — Hard
$60,000 — Impoppable
This upgrade improves Wizard Monkey's ability to summon a much stronger phoenix, and grants a permanent phoenix sub-tower which is identical to that summoned by the tier 4 Summon Phoenix ability.

Wizard Lord Phoenix's ability transforms the Wizard Monkey into a Lava Phoenix for 20 seconds which flies in a circle in the center of the screen, and attacks Bloons with flames that deal 20 damage, have 50 pierce, and an attack cooldown of 0.1 seconds. It has a second attack which fires 8 meteors at a time, one in each direction. Meteors deal 50 damage with a pierce of 300, have an attack cooldown of 1 second. The Lava Phoenix has infinite range and ignores line-of-sight blockers. The Lava Phoenix's flames cannot damage Purple Bloons, but its meteors can damage all Bloon types. This ability has a cooldown of 45 seconds and an initial cooldown of 15 seconds. The permanent phoenix remains while the ability is active, but Wizard Monkey stops all other attacks while transformed.

This upgrade increases fireball explosion damage from 3 to 9, and increases wall of fire damage from 1 to 5. This upgrade changes the dragon's breath attack to fire 3 flames per shot over 15°, increases its pierce from 3 to 15, increases DoT damage from 2 to 30, and increases DoT duration from 3 to 15 seconds.

Path 3

Intense Magic
Tier 1 — 140 XP to unlock
Icon of Intense Magic
More powerful magic shots move faster and can pop more Bloons.
$255 — Easy
$300 — Medium
$325 — Hard
$360 — Impoppable
This upgrade increases the Wizard Monkey's attack's pierce by 5 and doubles its projectile speed (which also doubles the maximum distance it can travel by extension). Crosspathing with Fireball increases the explosion's pierce by 5, crosspathing with Wall of Fire increases its pierce on each tick by 5, and crosspathing with Dragon's Breath increases its pierce by 2 and also doubles its projectile speed and distance. These interactions also apply to the Archmage's Dragon's Breath attack.
Monkey Sense
Tier 2 — 500 XP to unlock
Icon of Monkey Sense
Increases range slightly and allows the Wizard to hit Camo Bloons.
$255 — Easy
$300 — Medium
$325 — Hard
$360 — Impoppable
This upgrade increases the Wizard Monkey's attack range by 10 distance units, or 25% of its base range, and allows it to detect Camo Bloons. If crosspathed with Archmage, it also increases the projectile radius of its Shimmers by ~16.7%.
Shimmer
Tier 3 — 2,200 XP to unlock
Icon of Shimmer
Gains a dark magic attack that periodically reveals location of all nearby Camo Bloons permanently.
$1,275 — Easy
$1,500 — Medium
$1,620 — Hard
$1,800 — Impoppable
This upgrade grants the Wizard Monkey a new aura attack that removes the Camo property from Camo Bloons. This aura deals no damage, has 500 pierce, an attack cooldown of 2 seconds, and a radius equal to 25% more than its base range (75 units without range buffs). It can remove Camo from all Bloon types. This upgrade also increases the range of Wizard Monkey by 10 units (20% larger than the previous tier), from 50 to 60.
Necromancer: Unpopped Army
Tier 4 — 10,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Necromancer: Unpopped Army
Reanimate recently popped enemies as servants that can destroy Bloons of any type.
$2,380 — Easy
$2,800 — Medium
$3,025 — Hard
$3,360 — Impoppable
This upgrade adds a Graveyard counter, which keeps track of the number of pops that occur near the Wizard Monkey, letting it summon Undead Bloons that follow backwards along the track. Each summoned group of Undead Bloons consumes units of the Graveyard. After accumulating enough graveyard units, up to 500 units, the Wizard's Undead Bloon attack is faster and the Wizard gains increased damage for all of its attacks.

Each Undead Bloon comes in groups of 1 to 4 and each dealing 2 Normal-type damage and have a variable amount of pierce. The Wizard also gets a new targeting option that allows it to change the location where the Undead Bloons are deployed.

Prince of Darkness
Tier 5 — 30,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Prince of Darkness
Reanimate even more powerful Bloon servants to obliterate the enemy and enhances all other Necromancers.
$22,525 — Easy
$26,500 — Medium
$28,620 — Hard
$31,800 — Impoppable
This upgrade lets the Wizard Monkey additionally summon Undead MOABs and Undead BFBs, and enhances most of its attacks and adjusts its graveyard mechanics. It also grants a buff to all Wizard Monkeys with the Necromancer: Unpopped Army upgrade, including itself, by increasing the damage of all of their Undead Bloons by +3.

Prince of Darkness itself attacks 4× faster (from 1.1 to 0.275 seconds) and shimmer attacks 2× faster (from 2 to 1 second), and acquisition range from 60 to 80. Additionally, its graveyard mechanics are also adjusted:

  • Graveyard capacity increased from 500 to 3000
  • Additionally sends Undead MOABs and Undead BFBs, the latter prioritized with at least 2100 graveyard units. These, respectively, deal 40 and 100 damage (before the Undead Bloon buffs) and have 20 and 50 pierce, but cost 20 and 50 units.
  • Bonus damage per graveyard unit increased from 200 to 300, up to a hardcoded +10 (at 3000 graveyard units)
  • Super Ceramic graveyard bonus changed from 7-13 to 7-10

Paragon

Magus Perfectus
Tier 6 — 1,000,000 XP to unlock
Icon of Magus Perfectus
Only the most perfect Wizard can channel the ancient powers of the beyond.
$680,000 — Easy
$800,000 — Medium
$864,000 — Hard
$960,000 — Impoppable
The Magus Perfectus features a unique mana mechanic and can swap between two different attack modes. The primary mode consumes mana for its upgraded Arcane Spike attack and Dark Phoenix, as well as summoning Undead Bloons. The secondary mode restores mana with a weak Draining Beam attack.

The Magus Perfectus has two Activated Abilities:

  • Phoenix Explosion — consumes all mana to summon Undead ZOMGs and detonate the Phoenix, and applies a powerful damage over time effect to nearby Bloons. Additional Undead ZOMGs are produced with more mana spent.
  • Arcane Metamorphosis — continuously consumes mana to merge the Wizard and Phoenix for a powerful flame cascade attack that leave Walls of Fire on the track when the flame hit the Bloons. The ability ends when all the mana are depleted.

  • Buff Cost reduced ― $550 → $450
“
Though it was never a goal for the base tower to be great, given the additional purple weakness since BTD5 and how poorly it currently performs we feel it deserves to take rank as the cheapest magic tower along with a small buff.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Cost reduced ― $450 → $400
  • Buff Pierce increased ― 2 → 3
“
As base Wizard shines in no way & doesn’t lead into any immediately good cheap lower tiers aside from Wall of Fire, the base price is being slightly lowered at the cost of an increase to Wall of Fire.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Cost reduced ― $400 → $375
“
Wizard has a weaker base tower so the base cost is going down in exchange for a small price increase to the cost to value ratio for the effective Arcane Mastery.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Cost reduced ― $375 → $325
“
Base Wizard mostly struggles to compare to base Dart Monkey anyway, so we’re cutting it down to one of the cheapest starter placement towers and adding that small cost back across the top path.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Cost reduced ― $325 → $250
