Ice Shards is the Ice Monkey's path 1 tier 3 upgrade in Bloons TD Battles 2. Bloons frozen by it gain an "ice shards" status effect after the initial freeze damage; if the Frozen layer is popped, it produces 3 shards of ice that deal 1 damage with 3 pierce, 120° apart within 360°. Shards cannot be affected by external buffs to damage or pierce. Shards have the shatter damage type (pops Frozen but not Lead).
The "ice shards" status effect soaks up to 2 layers (3 with Deep Freeze), cannot affect White without support, and lasts as long as the freeze mutator. Ice Shards can trigger its own ice shards if crosspathed with Re-Freeze, although this requires external attack speed buffs.

Ice Shards is a great mid-game option in Ice loadouts to break apart rushes. It has a White weakness, preventing its shards from triggering if Ice Shards tries to freeze White. Having additional towers that pop Frozen, such as Gwendolin or Fusty the Snowman, are recommended for consistency of Ice Shards' damage, and to compensate downtime that it may have sometimes.
3-2-0 is the recommended crosspath. 3-2-0 increases the layers that can trigger shards, making it more effective at creating shards, while 3-1-0 is enough if on a budget. 3-0-2 is not efficient unless using an Ice-centric defense, which is rarely useful in normal gameplay.
