The Mermonkey is a Magic tower in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 44.0. It is unlocked by popping 3 million Bloon layers for the Gift Box or by purchasing the Mermonkey Unlock Pack from the Shop.
The Mermonkey attacks by throwing tridents that create damaging splashes around each Bloon they hit, similar to Hydra Rocket Pods and Captain Churchill's explosives. Each trident can create two splashes by default. Each trident has a very brief (0.05s) cooldown between activating a splash on a new target. The Mermonkey can be placed on both land and water, but has 35% more range if placed in water.
It can be upgraded to awaken an abyssal creature, fire freezing water attacks, or sing magical songs which heavily impede the bloons.

Strategy
[edit | edit source]Mermonkeys are amphibious towers that have a large variety of synergies with other towers. They fire tridents that act like a mini Hydra Rocket Pod, and gain different attacks as they level up to serve many different niches in the mid to lategame. Its base tower is very strong for its cost despite its relatively slow speed and low range when not placed in water, two-shotting most early-game Bloons.
- Mermonkeys have very high power, but can struggle with range. They gain a significant range boost upon being placed in water and can gain a colossal range boost by stacking multiple Echosense Network mermonkeys.
- The top path focuses on pierce, unlocking the abyssal creature. It attacks with multiple high pierce tentacles and enhances the pierce of nearby monkeys.
- The middle path unlocks water based attacks. The tridents now deal freezing damage and do even more damage the further they travel. It gains an ability to fire a huge stream of bouncing ice balls. Range greatly benefits the tower, allowing it to fire at bloons where it would deal the most damage. It also benefits from walls, allowing the ice balls to re-hit targets much more often.
- The bottom path allows the Mermonkey to support other towers. The song it sings hypnotizes nearby bloons, causing them to circle around the mermonkey for a significant amount of time, and detonates all damage-over-time effects on the target, limited in damage but letting those effects be re-applied. It later can echo the song from a totem, allowing it to be re-positioned and its timing to be reset, and have the song buff Heroes and Magic Monkeys.
Pre-release
[edit | edit source]The Mermonkey was first confirmed in the update notes for version 42.0.[1] It was later given an extensive preview in the update notes and accompanying video for version 44.0.

Cost reduced ― $475 → $375
Range bonus when placed in water increased ― +25% → +35%
| “ | Last update many players felt blindsided when Brickell stopped applying her buff to Mermonkeys since there was no mention in the balance changes section. We would like to apologize for that - it was tasked internally as a bug as it was indeed unintended to work that way. We then left the issue alone for a long time, mostly due to other more pressing matters, and this issue fell through the cracks. In retrospect, it would have been better to treat this as balance rather than a simple bug fix due to how much time had passed. Reading through your feedback, we did consider just reverting the change, however the bigger issue that the feedback reinforced to us was that players considered Mermonkey to be so bad that it was only a "good" tower when used in combination with a single, water-only hero.
This sort of forced synergy goes against our design intentions - namely that Mermonkey being our signature amphibious tower should be able to stand on its own without being balance-locked to an interaction with a single hero. With all that in mind, we feel Mermonkey's highest priority right now is large sweeping buffs to each of the paths, so most of the following changes are our first step towards this starting from the low tier crosspaths. |

Cost reduced ― $375 → $275
| “ | Mermonkey ended up somewhat underrated and overbuffed, mid tiers for top and middle paths have really stood out here lately and need to be reigned back in line. — Update notes |

Splash: Radius reduced ― 6 units → 3 units
