Introduced Version 40.0

Corvus is a Hero in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 40.0. He can be unlocked for Monkey Money 7,000 starting at level 35. He controls a flying Spirit that attacks Bloons, while he haunts nearby Bloons to gather extra Mana. Additional spells can be cast by spending Mana in his Spellbook. He also passively generates Mana at a constant rate provided that Bloons enter the screen.

  • Corvus is assisted by a Spirit sub-tower that flies around the map seeking Bloons out and ramming into them to deal damage. It cannot damage Lead Bloons or Purple Bloons and cannot detect Camo Bloons.
  • Corvus inflicts the strongest Bloon within his range with a Haunt effect every 3 seconds. It does no damage by itself, but it strips Regrow and Purple properties and causes the target to take extra damage from things that deal energy, plasma, fire, or frigid damage, including his Spirit. Haunted Bloons explode when destroyed, damaging other Bloons nearby and generating Mana. He cannot Haunt Camo Bloons or MOAB-Class Bloons by default.
  • Corvus provides access to the Spellbook, an interface that allows the player to spend Mana to cast spells with a variety of effects. Corvus unlocks more spells and enhances his previous spells as he levels up.
  • Starting at level 8, he gains Spiritual Balance, which multiplies his Mana gains whenever he has low Mana.
  • Starting at level 11, he gains Spiritual Attunement, which increases damage and movement speed of the Spirit depending on his current Mana.
  • He has three Activated Abilities:
    • Soul Harvest (level 3) — Deals significant damage to all Bloons near him and generates extra Mana based on the amount of damage dealt, with a minimum of 100 Mana per use.
    • Spirit Walk (level 7) — Teleports him to any position on the map that he can be placed on.
    • Dark Ritual (level 10) — Creates an aura that damages nearby Bloons and generates Mana off of the damage dealt for a short time. Starting at level 12, it also siphons from nearby Necromancer: Unpopped Army and Prince of Darkness Graveyards and converts it into Mana.

Mechanics

Spirit

This section is incomplete. You can help out by expanding it.
The editor who added this notice elaborates: add more specific mechanics to this creature, including level benefits

The spirit is a flying sub-tower that accelerates towards targets and swipes a short distance against them. If no visible Bloons are on screen, it flies back to Corvus and periodically wanders around his base range. It does not benefit from external buffs that do not affect sub-towers, such as Alchemist Brews and Overclocking, nor be affected by external attack speed buffs, such as Jungle Drums and Call to Arms (but not the pierce bonus). However, it can receive all other buffs like Radar Scanner, Monkey Town, and the pierce from the Abyss Dweller.

Levels
Level Effect
2 Pierce increased from 4 to 6.
4 Damage increased to 2.
6 Damage increased to 3.
9 Damage increased to 5 and does +1 MOAB-Class damage.
11 Gains Spiritual Attunement.
14 Damage increased to 10, and MOAB-Class damage bonus increased to +5.
16 Damage increased to 20.
20 Damage increased to 40, and MOAB-Class damage bonus increased to +10.

Mana

Corvus has 800 max Mana. Primarily, he gains Mana from popping Bloons that were affected by his Haunted effect. Additionally, he can passively generate 2 Mana every second, provided Bloons still spawn during the round. He can generate more mana via his Soul Harvest and Dark Ritual abilities.

At Level 8+, he gains Spiritual Balance, which increases his Mana gains when his Mana is low.

Haunt

Haunt is an effect that Corvus inflicts on the strongest Bloon within his range every 3 seconds (affected by attack speed buffs). Haunted Bloons have the following properties:

Corvus cannot Haunt MOAB-Class Bloons initially and cannot Haunt Camo Bloons without being granted Camo detection. He cannot Haunt Golden Bloons or Boss Bloons at all.

Levels
Level Effect
6 Explosion pierce increases to 8 and damage increases to 4.
12 Explosion pierce increases to 16 and damage increases to 10.
17 Haunted Bloons take +2 damage from energy, plasma, fire, and frigid damage instead of +1. Explosion damage increases to 30.
19 Can now target MOAB-Class Bloons.

Spellbook

The Spellbook is an interface that allows the player to store Corvus's Mana and spend it to cast spells. It starts with the Spear, Repel, and Nourishment spells by default and can store up to 800 Mana. Corvus can activate multiple spells at once, though certain spells cannot be active when another spell is active. Spells are allowed to be activated or deactivated between rounds.

Corvus gains more spells as he levels up, having access to 16 spells in total starting at level 13. There are two types of spells:

  • Spells on the top row consume a certain amount of Mana each second, in addition to costing Mana to cast in the first place. They remain active as long as Corvus keeps feeding them Mana and have no cooldown, and the player can deactivate them at any time.
  • Other spells do not drain Mana over time, but have a limited duration and a cooldown period. Unlike Activated Abilities, the cooldown does not start until the duration ends. They are not affected by ability cooldown modifiers such as Energizer.

On desktop, the Spellbook can be toggled with the Monkey Special hotkey (PageDown by default) and each spell slot can be assigned to a custom hotkey under Advanced Hotkeys.

Spiritual Balance

Spiritual Balance is unlocked at level 8. It multiplies the amount of Mana Corvus generates from all sources depending on how much Mana he currently has. At 80 Mana or lower, he generates 3× (+200%) as much Mana, and at 280 Mana or more, he does not generate extra Mana. The modifier scales linearly with how much Mana he has. For example, having 180 Mana means he generates +100% more Mana. This also affects Soul Harvest and Dark Ritual.

Spiritual Attunement

Spiritual Attunement is unlocked at level 11. It increases the damage and movement speed of the Spirit depending on how much Mana Corvus has in his Mana Pool, capping at 20% faster movement and 150% more damage with a full Mana Pool. The modifier scales linearly with how much Mana he has. For example, having 400/800 Mana means the Spirit moves 10% faster and deals 75% more damage.

Abilities

Soul Harvest

Soul Harvest is unlocked at level 3. It releases a blast that damages up to 20 Bloons within his range and restores 100 Mana plus 1 per point of damage it deals. It deals 20 damage at level 3, increasing to 30 base damage and +10 bonus damage to Ceramic Bloons at level 11. It starts with a 40-second cooldown and lowers by 0.5 seconds per level after level 3, to a minimum of 31.5 seconds at level 20. It can only be used up to 8 times per round and is disabled if the round lasts for more than 3 minutes.

Spirit Walk

Spirit Walk is unlocked at level 7. It allows Corvus to instantly teleport to any location on the map of the player's choosing that he can be placed on, functioning identically to Dark Champion's and Legend of the Night's version of Darkshift. It has a 20-second cooldown.

Dark Ritual

Dark Ritual is unlocked at level 10. It creates an aura around Corvus that deals 1 plasma-type damage to up to 100 Bloons within it every 0.2 seconds for 10 seconds, which is affected by the Plasma damage bonuses from Haunt. He restores 1 Mana per point of damage dealt by the aura, except damage dealt to regenerated Regrow Bloon layers. Dark Ritual cannot target Purple Bloons unless he is able to damage them. It has a 90-second cooldown, and can be affected by external buffs such as Berserker Brew.

Starting at level 12, activating the ability also removes 10% of the points from the Graveyards of Wizard Monkeys with the Necromancer: Unpopped Army, Prince of Darkness, or Magus Perfectus upgrades within his range, and converts those points into Mana. Multiple Graveyards will not stack. Necromancer Graveyards take precedent over Prince of Darkness, regardless of proximity to Corvus.

Strategy

For more in-depth strategies, see Strategy:Corvus (BTD6).
This section was last updated for: version 52.0

Corvus has a high skill ceiling, and requires micromanagement to take full advantage of him. He has several strong spells that assist for each stage of the game. Use his Nourishment to allow him to level up quicker, but also save enough Mana to afford spells to defend. Overall, he stands out in CHIMPS and Half Cash, because his spells can save a lot of cash if used properly. Despite being notorious as "only good for sweaty tryhards", he is still able to complete safe Black Border CHIMPS runs even if the player makes errors with his Mana and spell management.

Generally speaking, he is strong in the early-game with his Spirit, and scales his power throughout the game if he accelerates his leveling rate with fair optimization of Nourishment. For the mid-game, his role is a mid-game carry alongside a few other towers. In the late-game, Ancestral Might and Overload are his best assets for damaging heavier targets, while Frostbound and Repel allow him to effectively control smaller ones. Echo is an essential spell if chaining multiple spells together on difficult rounds. Corvus can prove effective with cleanup towers to act as a safety net, such as Spiked Mines or Perma-Spike, but the versatility his spells provide make him a good choice with nearly any tower.

Corvus is very effective on maps with only one active lane per round, such as Erosion, but is a bit weaker on multi-lane maps due to needing Haste to travel between lanes quickly. Setting his targeting on Close can avoid chasing, allowing him to much more effectively focus down one lane.

Tips

  • Corvus gets more Mana from Haunting stronger Bloons, so he should be placed in areas where the Bloons will reach him before your main sources of DPS. For example, if all your attacking towers are concentrated in the center of Monkey Meadow, then he should be placed closer to the entrance.
  • In the early game, use Spear for Bloon rushes, Vision for Camo Bloons, and Ancestral Might against the round 40 MOAB.
  • In the mid game, use Ember and/or Trample for dense Bloons and Repel / Frostbound to stall MOAB-Class Bloons.
  • Use Nourishment on easy rounds when other spells aren't needed to gain more XP.
  • Use Recovery before difficult rounds if the spells needed have significant cooldown left.
  • Haste is a combo spell to reduce wasted time moving around the Spirit.

We rarely make .1 changes for balance however seeing community response already confirm some of the thoughts we wanted to gauge in action, and given the upcoming holiday break, we wanted to take a quick pass to even out some of the many different parts of Corvus to all feel fun in their own way with their own fair place among the others. Given it seems he is already performing quite well it did feel necessary to shift power between parts rather than raw buffs all around, however we won’t go into detail on what we feel here as we still want to see what synergies players work out on their own.

We wanted to avoid passive stall mana gain with Corvus initially, however in order to grant a little bit more leeway for co-op splits or general bad placement, we are allowing Corvus to passively generate a little mana over time while Bloons are spawning but reducing the mana gain from popping Haunted Bloons

As Corvus’s power is still considerably top-heavy the mid game performance is being improved with buffs to underused spells, but also top-end power of his 2 most powerful level 20 spells is being reduced to lessen the pressure to ‘need’ to get this far.

We’re happy with how Corvus fits into his new XP curve, although a few edges do need to be smoothed out. First, Corvus early game is kinda broken, for now we’re not touching the spirit itself but have reduced the damage of the Spear spell. Frostbound is currently much better than Repel, so we have doubled Repel’s knockback against non-moabs & increased its radius along with some small nerfs to Frostbound - note that while Frostbound’s freeze on MOABs is being reduced the duration is still longer than the re-application rate so this will rarely be noticed. For Dark Ritual QoL, it will no longer eat up pierce on purple Bloons unless it is able to damage them. Finally, Overload & Might are still somewhat tuned around the higher XP curve and need some nips to their power.

We don’t want to knock him down hard before the holidays, but Corvus’ placement cost is being increased and Spirit move speed is being shifted from passive power into the Haste spell with Haste’s cooldown also being cut so it can almost always be available when required at the cost of active mana management.

Corvus’ early game is too powerful for the full map coverage that it provides, so his placement cost is increasing and Spirit Pierce is being reduced as he has many spell options for covering pierce in the later game to make up for this. Frostbound & Repel can chain together for a powerful stall so Frostbound’s duration is being reduced.

As Corvus is vastly outperforming other heroes his high-end performance is being nerfed in several ways but with an effort made to also improve his lower-end performance at the same time. Mana generation’s maximum potential scaling has been targeted as a part of this since it is too easy to maintain high levels of mana, but his passive mana regeneration and low-mana bonuses have also been improved so he also doesn’t run out to 0 too easily. Along with this other improvements should make him easier to use in general. There is a lot changing here, so we have broken it down into further sections
