The Herald of Everfrost is the Ice Monkey's Paragon in Bloons TD 6, introduced in version 52.0. It is a combination of Super Brittle, Absolute Zero, and Icicle Impale.

The Herald of Everfrost's attacks will alternate between three Ice Lance Beams and one Snowstorm Roar; either attack is only used when Bloons are in range. It also has an Arctic Wind-like aura that greatly slows Bloons and MOAB-Class Bloons within its radius. The Paragon creates ice platforms for the water placement of land towers globally.

  • Ice Lance Beam: The Paragon launches an ice beam attack with very high pierce which travels in a straight line and freezes all damaged Bloons for 10 seconds, leaving a trail of 6 giant ice shards as it travels. Bloons that survive the attack grow icicles that damage other Bloons.
  • Snowstorm Roar: The Paragon freezes all Bloons on screen, applying permafrost to Bloons below a BAD, removing Camo and Regrow properties, temporarily stops Lead immunities, and inflicting a debuff that causes Bloons to take +10 damage from all attacks with an additional +40 damage from attacks that deal Cold, Frigid, Glacier, or Shatter-type damage. This debuff can stack with Embrittlement and Super Brittle. BADs and Boss Bloons also receive the damage debuff with the visual effect, but they are not slowed.

Additionally, it has an Activated Ability called Eclipse of Fimbulwinter. It will stop attacking for 5 seconds before freezing every Bloon on screen for 10 seconds, although BADs and Bosses are only frozen for 5 seconds. If a Boss Bloon reaches a skull while frozen, the skull effects are skipped completely, and the Boss thaws early. It has a cooldown of 90 seconds, and can only be used once per round. It can be used multiple times per Boss skull, but can only cancel the effects of one skull per Boss tier.

The Monkey Knowledge Icy Chill Icy Chill improves its range by 3 units.

After upgrading to Herald of Everfrost, all water on the entire map gains special ice platforms. The ice platforms themselves are functionally equivalent to normal ice platforms from Arctic Wind or Silas. Visually, the Herald of Everfrost's platforms are dark blue ice platforms.

Herald of Everfrost's activated ability, Eclipse of Fimbulwinter,[1] causes a visual effect that darkens the entire map, creates an global slow effect for 25 seconds, and after 5 seconds it freezes all Bloons on the screen and applies a permafrost effect for 10 seconds. The global slow effect slows Boss Bloons by 5%, BADs by 10%, and all other Bloons by 30%. The freeze status affects BADs and Boss Bloons, with the same effects, but lasting 5 seconds instead. Frozen BADs move at 2.25 units/s and Bosses move at half speed. The permafrost effect slows regular Bloons by 75% and slows MOAB-Class Bloons by 50%, but it doesn't affect BADs or Boss Bloons. It has a cooldown of 90 seconds and can only be used once per round.

Eclipse of Fimbulwinter has a special effect on Bosses where if a skull is triggered while they are frozen, the skull's effect will be negated, but the Boss will thaw early. This effect can only be used once per Boss tier. Specific interactions with Bosses are as follows:

  • Bloonarius: Does not spawn or scatter any Bloons.
  • Lych: Lych-soul and chained MOABs do not appear, and Lych does not enter an immunity phase.
  • Vortex: It does not create a shield or stun towers, but does not get knocked backwards on the track.
  • Dreadbloon: It stays in its current immunity, skips the ceramic shield, and stops the spawn of Dreadrock Bloons. This does not work before the first skull due to Primary immunity. If the second skull is skipped, it keeps Military immunity, and the last skull only changes the immunity to Magic, causing Support immunity to be completely skipped.
  • Phayze: Prevents the warp, keeping the Bloon spawn portal in its current position and also prevents it from setting up its Reality Shield.
  • Blastapopoulos: Does not spawn fireballs or pyroclastic rocks. Additionally, its heat bar is reduced by 10,000,000, effectively resetting its heat bar to zero.

Hypothermia Hypothermia does not affect duration of the ability.

Herald of Everfrost is a cheap but very effective supporting Paragon. It's not meant to be main damage, instead its main value comes from its massive bonus damage to debuffed Bloons and capability to skip Boss skulls. Time the Eclipse of Fimbulwinter carefully versus BADs and Bosses, as it is limited by its max usages per round and has an extremely long cooldown. Regardless, it's a must-have for deep Freeplay, including CHIMPS Freeplay. It's extremely powerful with towers that attack quickly and shoot multiple projectiles, such as Bloonjitsus + Shinobi spam, especially with Hot Magic Hot Magic for Magic Monkeys with Sharp type by default, because with that MK it counts both the normal and Cold damage bonuses together.

The delay between its supporting capabilities can be a concern in time-sensitive scenarios. Notably, Fimbulwinter's long delay makes it much harder to time. In Boss Events, especially Timed Boss, time the ability just a second before the round begins so it can affect the Boss almost immediately (all Bosses have a 3-second delay before summoning). The Snowstorm Roar is also impacted to a lesser extent, since the time between BADs and Bosses entering and receiving the debuff can be long enough to be a concern.

The matchup against Boss Bloons varies, with the extra damage taken affecting all Bosses significantly for projectile spam strategies, such as Bloonjitsu + Shinobi Tactics. Its best matchups are those that are the most affected by losing a skull effect.

  • Bloonarius: Least effective matchup, since most Paragons already deal enough damage to deal with its minions by late-game stages. However, the ability's BAD+Boss slowdown and the Snowstorm Roars are effective against BAD spawns and limiting the Boss's progression on shorter maps.
  • Lych: Particularly on rounds with DDTs and Fortified DDTs, preventing a skull will avoid Lych-Soul and Resurrected Blimps. Additionally, not being able to become invulnerable allows better chaining of high-damage Paragon abilities, such as Goliath Doomship's Carpet Bomb.
  • Vortex: Tricky to use, with harder optimization due to the Boss pushback being beneficial sometimes. Still a good choice against Vortex when timed to avoid a potentially detrimental tower stun.
  • Dreadbloon: Its best matchup against all except Primary immunity, potentially skipping the Support category completely and offering a significant Bloon damage debuff that makes unshielded Dreadbloon easier to handle by projectile spam strategies. Time just before the second (Military → Magic) or third (Magic → Support) skulls for the best results.
  • Phayze: Good matchup, since it can prevent one warp, limiting Phayze's progression. Despite stripping Camo properties, Phayze will be immune to decamo for half the time, but can still be a notable anti-synergy with Ascended Shadow.
  • Blastapopoulos: Another very strong matchup, with the Bloon damage debuff and Heat Bar reductions assisting projectile spam strategies significantly. Skipping a skull effect is beneficial to limit Pyroclastic Rocks or Meteors where your towers are close to the Boss, gaining more time to damage it.

Higher degrees are less important due to the debuff already having 100% uptime, but will be important if wanting more uptime on the Fimbulwinter ability. Higher attack speed will improve consistency of Snowstorm Roar's Bloon debuffs, as well as cooling Blastapopoulos faster. Its direct damage stats don't matter too much with degrees but can help to an extent.

To maximize degrees from pops, the majority of them should come from a mixture of all Tier 5 Ice Monkeys and Icicles spam. For cheapest T2 and T3 crosspaths for the most tiers, use 2-0-2 and 3-0-2, the cheapest Tier 4 for the most tiers is 4-0-2 Embrittlement, and for the most expensive use 2-4-0 Snowstorms. Icicles is still preferred for maximum degrees if placed over many rounds. Silas with his bonus T5 Ice Monkey provides a headstart to its degrees, but Geraldo's Paragon Power Totems are still generally preferred for that purpose.
