Spiked Balls is the Spike Factory's path 1 tier 3 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. Instead of spike piles, it dispenses spiked balls that deal 2 damage, +3 Ceramic damage, and +1 Fortified damage, and have 11 pierce. Spiked balls can pop Frozen and Lead Bloons.

Spiked Balls is a cost-effective choice for tanking multi-layered bloons and Ceramics. Like most Spike Factories, Spiked Balls is best used near the back to protect exits. Its stockpiles become much stronger when paired with buffs to damage and pierce. In particular, Berserker Brew and Acidic Mixture Dip buffs don't wear out quickly on Spiked Balls, so each spike pile essentially becomes 4 damage and 13 pierce versus Ceramics and MOAB-class.
During the mid-game, Spiked Balls is more efficient than lower-tier Spike Factories against bloons with more than one offspring (e.g. Rainbow Bloons), because each spike can skip bloon multiple layers. Spiked Balls is also effective at tanking the insides of a single MOAB, if the stockpile is healthy.
For the late-game, Spiked Balls does not fall off much, as Super Ceramic Bloons replace normal Ceramics, so Spiked Balls can fully take advantage of its bonus Ceramic damage. It can tank small amounts of Super Ceramics that manage to go through the main defenses.
Spiked Balls isn't reliant on crosspathing, but still appreciates them. Middle crosspath allows spikes to replenish quicker, which is more valuable on shorter maps like #Ouch. On the other hand, the bottom crosspath (specifically 3-0-2) allows spikes to be specifically positioned, with the extra benefit of longer-lasting spikes and a faster start-of-round production, which is better for general cases.

We quite liked how the lifespan changes for xx1 spikes went previously, though this still wasn’t enough to make the path competitive and increasing this number further wouldn’t have much of an impact since most earlier rounds aren’t long enough. Spiked Balls strats have also felt too strong compared to higher tiers on top path, so touching on all of these issues slightly the base lifespan of spikes has been reduced, ceramic bonus increased on 4xx; and a new bonus added to 5xx.
