The deck creation interface

Cards are the core gameplay mechanic of Bloons Card Storm. During a match, players can spend Gold to play cards on their turn (and only on their turn). Some cards can also be played by the Storm or by using Hero abilities. Each player has a deck that consists of exactly 40 cards, and up to three copies of each card can be included in a deck (except for Unique cards, which only allow one copy per deck).

At the start of each match, but before the first turn, each player draws their starting hand from their deck. The player that will go first draws 3 cards, while the other player draws 4 cards. Before the first turn, each player can mulligan one card in their starting hand up to three times. At the start of each turn (including the first turn, after the starting hands are drawn), the turn player draws one card (unless their hand is full or their deck is empty). Each player can have up to 8 cards in their hand at a time. If a player starts their turn with zero cards left in their deck before drawing, that player automatically loses the match.

Card attributes

Cards have different attributes depending on the type of card. All cards have the following attributes:

• Cost: The amount of Gold the player has to spend in order to play the card. Costs range from 0 to 18.
• Charges: Some cards can be played more than once before being consumed, indicated by the number of coins under the Gold cost. If a card is discounted while in the player's hand (such as by using For My Next Trick), all charges are discounted. Charges range from 1 to 4, though cards with more than three charges are indicated with only three coins and a "+" icon. This attribute was originally exclusive to Bloon cards before Monkey and Power cards with more than one charge were introduced in version 2.0.
• Class: Each type of card has three or four different classes. The class determines what kind of tokens are required to craft the card. Some cards have effects that depend on class, such as the Crippling Sniper only applying its effect to Large-class Bloons.
• Rarity: Cards can be either Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, or Ultra Rare. It determines how many Tokens are required to craft the card, and some cards can only draw cards of a certain rarity.

Keywords

Keywords are terms used to describe specific properties of a card's mechanics. The player can see a card's keywords when viewing a card in the Collection and during a match. Each keyword has an icon, which is displayed next to the Monkey or Bloon during a match at all times.

Some card descriptions use phrases such as "During your Turn", "During Opponent's Turn", and "When an opponent draws a Card" like keywords, but they have no icons or descriptions.

Card types

Bloons

Main article: Bloon (BCS)

Bloon cards are the main way of attacking the opponent. They come in three classes: Basic, Advanced, and Large. Each Bloon has a Delay stat that determines how many turns the opponent has to defend and a Health stat that determines both how much damage the Bloon can take and deal. The turn delay decrements at the end of the player's turn and attacks the opponent if it reaches zero, dealing as much damage as it has health remaining. Some Bloon cards can be played more than once before being discarded. Playing a Bloon card also generates Bloontonium equal to the card's Gold cost. Bloons can have additional effects, such as giving extra Gold to the player when destroyed. Each player can have up to 8 Bloons queued at a time, and more Bloons cannot be played if the player's side is full.

Monkeys

Main article: Monkey (BCS)

Monkey cards are the main way of defending against Bloons. They come in four classes: Primary, Military, Magic, and Support. Each Monkey has an Attack Power stat that determines how much damage they deal to Bloons, an Ammo stat that determines how many times they can attack before needing to reload, and a Reload stat that determines how many turns it takes to restore their Ammo. Players can spend Ammo to attack their opponent's Bloons at any time during their turn. Monkeys can have additional effects, such as having more Attack Power when at full Ammo. Each player can have up to 5 Monkeys on their side at a time, and existing Monkeys can be replaced by playing new Monkeys if the player's side is full.

Powers

Main article: Power (BCS)

When played, power cards instantly trigger an effect, then are discarded. Some Powers require a target, such as selecting a Monkey or Bloon, while others have no conditions. They come in three classes: Basic, Advanced, and Exotic. Some cards can only be equipped to decks with a specific Hero, such as Storm Of Arrows for Quincy.

Decks

A deck consists of one Hero and exactly 40 cards. Each deck can have up to three copies of a card (except for Unique cards, which only allow one copy per deck), and is allowed any valid combination of cards for Bloons, Monkeys, and Powers. Players can create multiple decks and select one before entering matchmaking.

Editing decks

A deck can be edited by tapping on it, bringing up its menu. Every deck has one Hero that cannot be changed once the deck is created. In this menu, it has the following features:

• Hero Abilities: All abilities of the Hero and their basic descriptions and Bloontonium costs.
• Name of the deck: Each deck can have up to 20 valid characters (letters, numbers, spaces, symbols) in its name. If a deck has inappropriate terms, attempting to save the name will revert to its old name.
• List of cards: In this menu, cards are listed from top to bottom, in order of cost and then alphabetical order, and above this menu is the selected Hero. At the bottom of the menu is a list of cards for Bloons, Monkeys, and Powers.
• Wins: Shows the number of recorded wins from this deck, as shown below the Hero Abilities list.
• Edit: Allows the deck to be edited. The menu will contain a list of cards that the selected Hero's deck is capable of equipping.
• Delete: The trash can button prompts the player if they want to delete this deck, and once confirmed then it is deleted.

In the Card Collection menu, the deck will display a yellow warning symbol if this deck doesn't have exactly 40 cards; this deck cannot be played until that condition is no longer broken.

Deck slots

The player starts with three deck slots by default (one used by the Quincy Starter deck, though it can be replaced). Additional deck slots can be obtained through the following methods:

• Purchasing them for  250 (repeatable)
• Completing the Tutorial
• Purchasing the Amelia Hero Bundle or Amelia Mega Bundle
• Purchasing the Obyn Hero Bundle
• Reaching level 20
• Reaching level 40

Card backs

The card back selection interface

Card backs are cosmetic items that can be used to customize the back side of each card. During a match, card backs are visible while a card is being played and in the opponent's hand.

Sometimes, certain cards may not necessarily match the player's selected card back for their deck. If a player uses Expert Negotiator on a tower, then uses Return to Sender on that same card, they will have the card back of the opponent for that card specifically. The Storm always uses the default card back.
