While the extra 2 damage and greater round lifespan are decent bonuses, this upgrade is quite expensive. It requires significant stockpiling to be worth its value, though it's a little more cost-efficient at tanking bloons for the cost than simply adding cheap buffs. Without buffs such as [[Berserker Brew (BTD6)|Berserker Brew]], its spike piles are less efficient than [[Spiked Balls (BTD6)|Spiked Balls]] in general, especially versus Ceramics, but slightly better than Spiked Balls when given buffs.

Crosspathing is recommended to allow Deadly Spikes to maximize its stockpiles. Top-path crosspathing is more efficient without buffs and is capable of tanking Leads, while the speed bonuses from middle-path crosspaths are the stronger pick in the presence of buffs.
1-0-4 is the preferred crosspath as it's cheaper, stronger (even with [[Berserker Brew (BTD6)|Berserker Brew]]) and can be upgraded with [[White Hot Spikes (BTD6)|White Hot Spikes]] if necessary.

Like its previous upgrade, Deadly Spikes requires significant stockpiling to be worth its value. This upgrade retains great synergy with Berserker Brew, though its spike piles are not as good as Spiked Balls versus Ceramic Bloons, but better versus other Bloons and serves as an okay transition to Perma-Spike. Normally, a buffed Long Life Spikes does the job for cheaper, but the additional round of lifespan is notable on Glacial Trail as the spikes last enough rounds to cover the downtime when frozen.

1-0-4 is the preferred crosspath as it's cheaper, stronger (even with Berserker Brew) and can be upgraded with White Hot Spikes if necessary.

Like a few other towers before it, the attack speed crosspath for Spike Factory has outshined the others. We have reworked the lower Spike Factory tiers to distribute this power more evenly while keeping high tier factories at a similar level of power.

Long Life Spikes can start creating a nice buildup of spikes in advance but most of the time feels fairly meh as a stepping stone into Deadly Spikes, a little price here is being shifted up to improve standalone upgrade value.

This update we’ve finally decided to nerf Permaspike by completely removing the ‘Far’ target priority from the earlier Smart Spikes upgrade. We know that this loss will be incredibly painful to deal with for the many spike factory enjoyers out there, so we have also included a couple other minor QoL adjustments to the Smart Spikes upgrade in a hopeful attempt to offset this.
