XXXL Trap is the Engineer Monkey's path 3 tier 5 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It improves the Engineer Monkey's traps, allowing them to collect and insta-kill MOAB-Class Bloons (excluding BADs and Boss Bloons), and increasing their capacity greatly. Additionally, the upgrade allows the Engineer Monkey to deploy traps more frequently. The XXXL traps have increased value; they provide +200% additional cash from collected Bloons, except on CHIMPS and Deflation modes.
Mechanics
[edit | edit source]Just like the tier 4 version, XXXL Trap collects Bloons that touch it, instantly popping them. However, it gains MOABs, BFBs, DDTs (if visible), and ZOMGs. By default, traps will be placed on the nearest part of the track to the Engineer Monkey, including over walls and obstacles. If no part of the track is within its range, the Engineer Monkey will not deploy a trap unless given the Larger Service Area upgrade and the trap is retargeted.
Bloons popped by traps do not provide cash right away. Each trap can hold 10,000 RBE (10,030 with
Big Traps). Once full they no longer pop bloons, and are ready for collection. Collectible traps will shake, and can be collected by moving the cursor over them, or collected automatically after some time. They can also be collected by Banana Farmers and Monkey Wall Street. Once collected, the trap provides the player with as much cash as all the trapped Bloons are worth, plus an additional 200% cash value if not playing in CHIMPS mode. This additional income can be increased further by Monkey Town, Monkey City, and Rubber to Gold.
If a player deploys an XXXL trap, no Engineer Monkey purchased by the same player can deploy another XXXL trap until the first one is collected. However in co-op, multiple players can deploy an XXXL trap at the same time.
The Engineer Monkey deploys a new trap 4.6 seconds after a trap is collected, which can be decreased by attack speed buffs until it reaches the minimum trap delay of 2.1s. The deploy speed is reduced to 2.3s with the Faster Engineering upgrade and reduces the minimum trap delay from 2.1s to 1.4s.
If upgraded to Larger Service Area, the Engineer Monkey's trap location may be retargeted to anywhere within its range, including over walls and off the track. If upgraded to Deconstruction, the trap will de-fortify any Fortified Bloons before collecting them, letting it catch more Bloons should any Fortified Bloons enter the trap.
Traps can collect any Bloon type including Lead. However, traps cannot collect Camo Bloons unless the Engineer Monkey was provided camo detection when the trap was deployed. Providing the Engineer Monkey camo detection after a trap is deployed will not grant the trap camo detection; the Engineer Monkey will need to place a new trap before its trap can collect Camo Bloons.
Upon reloading a save file, any traps that existed when the game was saved will remain. However, buffs such as Monkey City and Camo detection will not be saved for traps.

Strategy
[edit | edit source]XXXL Trap excels at insta-killing MOAB-Class Bloons, especially for later rounds such as round 81 and above, and on cash-generating game modes it is a solid mid-to-late-game income option when combined with income-per-pop buffs such as Monkey City, Rubber to Gold, and Bounty Hunter (if used only for MOAB-class). It favors slower Bloons such as ZOMGs and BFBs, rather than faster Bloons such as DDTs, due to the downtime of the traps. Additionally, its cash generation counts as pops, including income-per-pop buffs, therefore an excellent choice to maximize degrees for Master Builder.
Crosspaths are beneficial to improving its efficiency. 0-1-5 (Larger Service Area) is usually preferred due to its capability to reposition traps, and 0-2-5 (Deconstruction) is optional and should only be bought to handle masses of Fortified Bloons. 2-0-5 (Faster Engineering) improves the trap generation rate and lowers the trap's downtime, which is better if repositioning is not needed and rate of trapping is more important than repositioning.
For CHIMPS, XXXL Trap is usable as a rapid instakill against lots of slow-moving blimps, including Round 98, although often difficult to justify for practical CHIMPS runs when many of the T5's around its price range are more efficient and have superior T4 stepping stones.
