Centered Path is the Monkey Ace's path 3 tier 2 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It grants Monkey Ace a new targeting option called Centered Path. When this option is selected, Monkey Ace flies in a circle around a point that may be set anywhere on the map. Upon buying the upgrade, the Monkey Ace is automatically set to Centered Path, defaulting its point at the centre of the map.

This circle has a radius of 90 units, slightly larger than that of Circle targeting which is 80 units.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: Elaborate how to centered path micro and the use cases for buying Centered Path over other upgrades
This section was last updated for: version 53.0

Centered Path opens up a new micromanagement style that allows the Ace to travel basically anywhere on screen. The only custom flight path is too big on most map formats, except a few (e.g. Park Path), without micromanagement to keep it above Bloons or the track.

To micromanage the Ace's Centered Path option optimally, know in advance where the Ace will be during the flight pattern. Position the center where the Ace would be during the flight pattern itself, while accounting for time to fly towards the new pattern from the old to new center. Reverse flight can assist consistency but shouldn't be relied on due to its relatively long cooldown.

When used as a crosspath, it can assist optimal DPS if repositioned with micro. First-path Aces can maximizing dart pierce and potentially hit one target with all darts, and second-path Aces can consistently place dropped bombs onto tracks. The higher-tier third-path upgrades can benefit from Centered Path for consistent angling of its shots.

0-5-2
  • Buff Now reduces ability cooldown by 5s (bug)
    • Buff Overall cooldown reduced ― 45s → 30s (due to changes to the base cooldown)
While Pineapples are never the star of the show, the amount of pierce they have is completely unnecessary for their usage window and has only led to balance problems for Bombing Run, specifically in races. This high amount of pierce has been more evenly spread through higher tiers & crosspath.
— Update notes
0-1-2, 0-2-2, 0-3-2, 0-4-2, 0-5-2
  • Buff Pineapple/bomb explosions now gain +12 pierce from Sharper Darts
0-5-2
  • Nerf No longer reduces ability cooldown by 5s, on top of 1-5-0 and 0-5-1 also no longer reducing cooldown by 5s (bug fix)
Monkey Ace was never intended to be a great starting tower and instead come into power at mid- and high-tier upgrades, but since the base tower feels lacking to new players (and some of us old timers) we decided to rework low tier power into the base tower.
— Update notes
  • Buff Dart: Projectile size increased ― 2 → 3
  • Buff Base Monkey Ace attack cooldown reduced ― 2.1s → 1.68s
0-1-2, 0-2-2, 0-3-2, 0-4-2, 0-5-2
  • Buff Exploding Pineapple: attack cooldown reduced ― 3s → 2s
Now allows you to find your center. Very zen.
— Update notes
  • Buff Centered Path mode: Now allows the player to change the center point of the path
More of a straight quality of life, Ace has gained a new special toggle button to allow it to turn back and fly in reverse on any selected flight pattern.
— Update notes
  • Buff Reverse flight pattern added
  • Buff Ace ‘centered path' markers now visually update immediately after setting new points (bug fix)
  • Nerf Resolved an issue where reversing flight path before purchasing Centered Path would prevent the centered path target from flying in the correct direction (bug fix)
    • Note: nerf to ace micro
  • Buff Upgrading to Centered Path no longer refreshes the cooldown on the special toggle (bug fix)
Centered Path these days adds a lot more potential power to Ace than before and we are moving price down into it from Neva-Miss.
— Update notes
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $300 → $550

Development

Internally, this upgrade is named FlightOrders by only the upgrade icon's filename. According to Ninja Kiwi's 21st July 2020 blog post, this upgrade was originally designed to allow the player to draw a custom flight pattern. The concept was scrapped due to being "confusing, visually unappealing and [...] overpowered."

On the Bloons TD 6 subreddit, Ninja Kiwi developer Rohan Spibo clarified that the team could not implement a custom-drawn flight pattern system while making it intuitive for newer players. For instance, the upgrade would've needed to have restrictions that prevented things like a "1px circle".[1] Furthermore, he stated such a complex system would be "disruptive to the gameplay design [...] for a T2 upgrade".[1]

But it was also too disruptive to the gameplay design of the tower for a T2 upgrade, and if that many restrictions have to keep being added to it then it's just not really that good" – Rohan Spibo (u/rohanspibo) (Mon, 9 Feb 2026).
