Caltrops is the Ninja Monkey's path 3 tier 2 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. The Ninja Monkey gains an additional attack, placing caltrops randomly onto any track in its range, limited by line of sight. Caltrops deal 1 damage, have 6 pierce, and does Sharp damage. Caltrops have a lifespan of 35 seconds, and disappear when a round ends.[fn 1]

Strategy

Caltrops is a separate attack from the shuriken that adds additional DPS to the Ninja for a low cost. While the DPS provided is relatively weak, it can serve as an effective earlygame safety net if given time to build up. Because they have only one damage at base and can re-hit targets, Caltrops synergize greatly with pierce and damage buffs, such as those from a Berserker Brew or a Shinobi Tactics army. This makes them very effective on higher tier ninjas, since buffing them is worth it even without Caltrops. Crosspathing a Shinobi Tactics army with Caltrops can serve as effective superceramic control, and deals high single-target damage if buffed further.

For an early game Distraction improvement the consistency of blowbacks is being averaged out more with increased minimum distance but reduced maximum, in many cases there would not actually be 250 units of track length in front of defenses to be blown back across anyway so the overall average distance is slightly lower. More at the mid to endgame we are also weakening distraction distance against Ceramics specifically as by this point Ninja have stacked so much speed and projectiles the consistency doesn’t matter anymore. Finally, distraction values for secondary projectiles are being modified, as Distraction chance as it has existed was never balanced around more than the main attack
