Robo Monkey is the Super Monkey's path 2 tier 3 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. This upgrade increases its pierce from 4 to 5, grants a copy of its attack that is fired simultaneously, and makes the tower fire a crit shot every 15-20 shots that deal +9 damage. The new copy of the attack has its own targeting option and cannot be the same as the first. The order of the two targeting selectors do not correspond to its left and right arms; the arms are limited to between 0° and 180° in opposite directions, and its two targeting options control the angle between the arms.

Buying the upgrade auto-sets its targeting to First-Strong (i.e. First on the main targeting option, Strong on the second one), regardless of which targeting priority it was set on.

The editor who added this notice elaborates: What's the best robo targeting, what use cases does robo have nowadays, and what else do you must consider with robo vs other tower choices and on specific events?
This section was last updated for: version 55.2

Robo Monkey is a decent T3 Super Monkey that remains strong for its fair single-target, grouped, and numbers of projectiles. Both crosspaths are effective, with 2-3-0 focusing on DPS and 0-3-1 (or 0-3-2 for innate camo detection versus any non-DDT) its late-game knockback on MOAB-class and Super Ceramics. Path 3 crosspath Robo prefers Geraldo for his capability to compress them into tight spaces (Worn Hero's Cape) and offer greater pierce (Sharpening Stone). Like all Super Monkeys, Robo prefers discounts, mainly from Monkey Commerce to save a lot of money and for cheaper supports. Robo has fallen off as a powerful CHIMPS carry with its many nerfs, but remains a viable option.

For targeting priorities, the second targeting selector should be set to the targeting priority that you'll rarely change on Robo, as the first targeting selector is easy to adjust with hotkeys (default: Tab). First-Strong or Strong-Close are the recommended targeting options for Robo Monkey, not First-Last (the default dual-targeting option). First-Strong focuses on cleanup and chipping single targets, while Strong-Close improves consistency on single targets.

Update history

This article is in need of research. You can help out by editing this article or discussing your findings on the talk page.
The editor who added this notice elaborates: Find out which update the forced First-Last targeting upon the purchase of the upgrade was implemented, if it exists (possibly used to be that the other targeting option would set to First, or Last if it's First)

  • Buff Pierce increased ― 4 → 6
  • Buff Projectile speed increased by 25%
0-3-1, 0-3-2
  • Buff Second arm applies more knockback to Lead, Ceramic, and Fortified (bug)
    • Neutral Overall knockback is the same as in previous versions for the second arm; the nerf to Knockback in this update only affects the first arm
0-3-1, 0-3-2
  • Nerf Alternate arm no longer has a stronger knockback effect on Leads and Ceramics (bug fix)
“
We were finally able to properly implement a popular suggestion for the Robo Monkey, and will be keeping an eye on it’s performance more closely in this update.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Main attacks: Can now set each arm to separate targeting options (instead of only allowing combinations of First+Last or Close+Strong)
“
[...] middle path has received some basic buffs with Robo-Monkey feeling unbalanced for the high price and difficult crosspathing [...]
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Upgrade cost reduced ― $9,000 → $7,000
  • Buff Now remembers target priorities when loading saves (bug fix)
“
Robo Monkey has never filled the super effective role it held in BTD5, so Dr Monkey has installed updated HUD targeting systems that now deal occasional critical hits.
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $7,000 → $8,400
  • Buff Main attack: Now fires a crit shot every 15–20 shots that deals 10 damage
“
Sun Avatar and Robo Monkey have had small price decreases while Dark Knight has had a small increase to line the T3s a little closer up.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Upgrade cost reduced ― $8,400 → $8,000
“
Robo didn't need to lose pierce in the last Super Monkey T2 rework, and Dark Knight feels like it has too much pierce without ever considering the pierce crosspath. So to balance these together we’ve taken out pierce from Dark Knight and added it back into x2x carrying up into Robo Monkey.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Main attacks: Pierce increased ― 6 → 7
“
We want the base Super Monkey to feel like more of a ‘weak for the cost’ stepping stone into T3s that feel more like T4s; but the base upgrade really does feel very outdated on this idea, and big crosspath problems exist due to this so we are moving some attack speed out from 2xx into the base upgrade. Robo path T3 feels a little too expensive compared to bottom path’s [...]
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Upgrade cost reduced ― $8,000 → $7,000
  • Buff Attack cooldown reduced ― 0.06s → 0.045s (attack speed increased by 33.33%)
    • Note: Plasma Blasts attack cooldown remains 0.03s
“
We missed this for a while, but it seems that Robo for how cheap and versatile it currently is just stands out a little much across many stages of gameplay. Shifting up a little pierce to tech terror here to tone it down slightly for now.
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Pierce reduced ― 7 → 6
    • With 1-X-X Laser Blasts crosspath ― 8 → 7
  • Nerf Overall cost increased by $1,000 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
“
We lowered the price of Tech Terrors to keep them ‘unchanged’ with Robo’s recent balancing, however in hindsight Robo is still too powerful and Tech Terrors themselves were already good enough that they really should’ve taken the hit along with Robo. Instead as they have risen in power even more, both of these upgrades are being properly nerfed now with a compensatory price buff to Anti-Bloon instead (hopefully not groundhogging to where Anti-Bloon becomes far too powerful and more changes are needed in v43)
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Upgrade cost increased ― $7,000 → $7,500
“
Robo monkey still holds its own for too long, easily working into its also very powerful Tech Terror upgrade.
— Update notes
”
  • Nerf Pierce reduced ― 6 → 5
“
Robo Monkey will now default to First & Strong target priority on first purchase, as this was vastly the preferred choice.
— Update notes
”
  • Neutral Default targeting option changed ― First-Last → First-Strong

Trivia

  • The left arm is technically the first attack, and the right arm is its second attack, but since the arm targeting only corresponds to angle between targets, the different arms usually do not affect gameplay except through bugs that cause only one of its arms to be affected.
