Permanent Brew is the Alchemist's path 1 tier 5 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. All newly applied buffs from the Alchemist's Acidic Mixture Dip and Stronger Stimulant last permanently, unless the Alchemist is sold or sacrificed, or the buff is stolen by Lych. Targets that currently have a weaker brew are not given permanent brew immediately; the buff must run out first.

Permanent Brew is an expensive upgrade, but with an effective midgame it can be afforded in CHIMPS in time for the mid-80's on most maps. It stands out the most on Least Cash Boss Events, which demand an army of cheap, highly buffable towers against all stages, and extreme Freeplay, which demands maximum buffs on every tower on screen. Some strong candidates for Permanent Brew include: Sun Avatar, 3-1-0 Destroyer, Bloonjitsu with Shinobi Tactics, and 2-0-4 Overdrive.

Despite its low range and the inability to retain its buff when sold or sacrificed, there are multiple ways to apply its buffs widely across a map. The simplest is to use Support Chinook or Dan D'Monke's Reposition ability to move it. Deadeye or Bounty Hunter's Take Aim abilities improve its range temporarily, enough so that it can target additional towers outside its normal range. Dark Knight and above can also be moved around the map to keep adding new targets later on. A few maps do have movable platforms that can allow Permanent Brew to keep finding new targets, with a notable example being Geared's small inner gear.

Versus Lych, the buff can still work before Tier 5, as Lych has limited buff-stealing range until then.

Permanent Brew largely does not require a crosspath as none of them will affect the potency of its buffs, but Faster Throwing can be optimal for time-sensitive scenarios such as Boss Events.

“
Acidic Mixture Dip did nothing for Glue Gunners but alchemist would waste it on them
— Update notes
”
  • Neutral Acidic Mixture Dip: Can no longer target Glue Gunners
  • Neutral Acidic Mixture Dip: Can now target Glue Gunners with Corrosive Glue and above
  • Buff Base potion attack: no longer has single-layer damage (undocumented)
“
Permanent Brew is strong in the right use, but just to let it live up to more of its potential without requiring a chinook we are improving its range.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Range increased ― 45 → 65
“
Alchemist 220 stands out a little too effectively in the crosspath efficiency of Acidic Mixture Dip uptime combined with the reduced forced downtime at 320 and so is being reduced.
— Update notes
”
5-2-0
  • Nerf Acidic Mixture Dip: Crosspath bonus to Acidic Mixture Dip buff reduced ― +3 → +2
    • Note: Shot amount reduced from 13 to 12
“
Currently 031 is the only crosspath that realistically does anything for Unstable Concoction.
— Update notes
”
“
Permabrew itself granting a range increase was annoying to prepare for and also somewhat hurt what was a very strong synergy for Chinook, so we’re taking away this bonus range but giving enough of a cash difference so that it can pair up with synergies like the Support Chinook more easily.
— Update notes
”
  • Buff Upgrade cost reduced ― $60,000 → $48,000
  • Nerf Range reduced ― 65 → 45
  • Nerf All buffing potions: Should no longer fall on other towers that aren't the intended target (bug fix)
    • Note: Patches an exploit regarding quickly buying a Permanent Brew and landing brew on towers not normally able to accept brew (e.g. Etienne, Beast Handlers, non-5xx Villages)
