For top path, the increased bolt pierce improves the Wizard's cleanup potential. For [[Archmage (BTD6)|Archmage]], the flames particularly benefit from the improved pierce, allowing it to assist more reliably against dense blimp rounds.

However, 1-0-1 and 2-0-1 wizards are often worse than 1-0-0 and 2-0-0 for beginning rounds as the speed increase of Intense Magic does not improve the acceleration of Guided Magic's homing so the projectile will often only hit 1 bloon before despawning.

Intense Magic is the Wizard Monkey's path 3 tier 1 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It increases the Wizard Monkey's attack's pierce by 5 and doubles its projectile speed (which also doubles the maximum distance it can travel by extension). Crosspathing with Fireball increases the explosion's pierce by 5, crosspathing with Wall of Fire increases its pierce on each tick by 5, and crosspathing with Dragon's Breath increases its pierce by 2 and also doubles its projectile speed and distance.

Intense Magic is more efficient for Wizard pierce than multiple base Wizards, and also serves as the pierce crosspath for upgraded Wizards.

It's valuable for middle path to improve reliability against groups of bloons, in addition to accessing Monkey Sense's innate camo detection and bonus range. Fireball gains minor pierce benefits, while T2 Wall of Fire prefers Intense Magic if not used solo (Guided Magic's 100% uptime is otherwise better for consistency). Dragon's Breath's flames gain a large pierce boost that's better for cleanup when compared to extra fireball damage of Arcane Blast, Summon Phoenix only benefits from the higher-pierce main Wizard flames, in contrast to 1-4-0's homing Phoenix flames, and Wizard Lord Phoenix is minimally affected.

For top path, the increased bolt pierce improves the Wizard's cleanup potential. For Archmage, the flames particularly benefit from the improved pierce, allowing it to assist more reliably against dense blimp rounds.

  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $100 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
0-2-1, 0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1
  • Neutral Intense Magic now grants +5 pierce to Wall of Fire
    • Note: Wall of Fire remains at 20 pierce
Second and third path upgrades get some fine tuning for more internal consistency. We want to make slow tweaks here to bring them into better balance
— Update notes
0-3-1, 0-4-1, 5-0-1
  • Buff Intense Magic now grants +2 pierce to Dragon's Breath ― 4 → 6
0-5-1
  • Buff Dragon's Breath: pierce increased ― 50 → 52
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $50 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
0-2-1, 0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1
  • Nerf Intense Magic grants less pierce to Wall of Fire ― +5 → +4
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $25 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
011 Fireball also does not benefit from having the pierce crosspath
— Update notes
0-1-1, 0-2-1, 0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1
  • Buff Fireball: pierce increased ― 15 → 20
Wall of Fire’s exceptional T2 power needs to be moved around for improved crosspathing, along with a slight nerf to Phoenix as it is currently performing too well, and both of these upgrades are shifting some of their power into Dragon’s Breath so it can stand out as more than just a buff to WoF & a stepping stone to Phoenix.
— Update notes
0-2-1, 0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1
  • Nerf Wall of Fire pierce per tic reduced ― 19 → 15
0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1
  • Buff Dragon's Breath WoF pierce per tick increased ― 19 → 25 (undocumented)
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $50 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
0-3-1
  • Buff  Intense Magic pierce bonus to Dragon's Breath increased ― +2 → +3 (undocumented)
    • Note: 031 pierce remains at 6
  • Buff Overall cost reduced by $75 (due to cost changes for previous tiers)
[...] we can justify a QoL buff with Dragon’s Breath’s scaling adjusting to match more crosspath improvements, meaning it will now benefit [... from] bottom path’s projectile speed increase.
— Update notes
Archmage’s MOAB bonuses are a little overkill and being lowered so we can justify a QoL buff with Dragon’s Breath’s scaling adjusting to match more crosspath improvements, meaning it will now benefit from Archmage’s range increase as well as bottom path’s projectile speed increase.
— Update notes
0-3-1, 0-4-1, 0-5-1, 5-0-1
  • Buff Dragon's Breath attack: Projectile speed increased ― 125 units/s → 250 units/s
0-3-1
  • Nerf Dragon's Breath: Pierce bonus is no longer increased compared to x-4-x ― +3 → +2 (bug fix)
    • Note: Pierce reduced from 6 to 5
