Bloon Buster is the Mortar Monkey's path 1 tier 2 upgrade in Bloons TD 6. It increases the damage of Mortar Monkey's shells from 2 to 3.

If Shattering Shells is purchased, this upgrade increases the damage of the damage-over-time effect from 5 to 8, and its damage-over-time effect to MOAB-Class Bloons from 20 to 25. If Blooncineration is purchased, this upgrade increases the damage of the damage-over-time effect on MOAB-Class Bloons from 100 to 150 and increases the damage of its walls of fire from 1 to 3.

Strategy

Bloon Buster's increased damage improves its DPS and capability to skip more layers at once, and can bypass the explosion-immune layers of a Rainbow. This upgrade sees use in the early game of Race Events, though its use is otherwise relegated to crosspathing. It is the optimal crosspath for middle-path Mortar Monkeys, and is preferred for Blooncineration if the map has only one entrance per round.

That said, since low tier Mortars were never powerful we chose to leave the speed buff from last update but revert the accuracy nerf.

Trivia

• It is the only BTD5 upgrade to be downgraded from Tier 3 to Tier 2 in BTD6.
• Its upgrade icon depicts a Yellow Bloon being popped into a Red, which is 3 layers. Prior to version 39.0, where base Mortar got a damage buff, this was impossible.
